PADM disabled message on my 718 GT4 - it seems Porsche still haven't sorted this out!

Ultimately if the rear chassis structure is unbolted, its wish to get the car checked and ensure its set correctly.. as there will have been some movement

Yea, I've rescheduled the Manthey work until after the PADM error is fixed.

My understanding is the 981 GTS and GT4 had PADM only on the engine mounts.The 718 GTS and GT4 had 4-PADM units, two on the engine and two on the transaxle.

My experience with a 2019 718 GTS 2.5t (4-PADM mounts) on numerous track days revealed no problems with the PADM sensors. Maybe I was just lucky.

Yep, that's my understanding too. Any 981/718 Cayman with Sports Chrono has two PADM units attached to the transmission mounts, none of them have four.

 
Looking at the GT4 PET listings ... 2 mounts

Picture 1 shows the dynamic mount `with` the engine, the item number is subsequently referenced to the second picture where it is shown `on` the transmission - it is here where the part numbers are noted

Part number 1 in pic 1 is the main part traditional bushed mount for the engine, along with the brace, numbered 2

 
The 981 and 718 F-6 engines feature a single pure elastomeric forward engine mount and rely on the transmission’s two fluid-filled (hydro) mounts at the rear. With PADM these two mounts are replaced by dynamic magnetorheological hydraulic transmission mounts.

The F-4T engines have two mounts, one on either side of the engine, in addition to two transmission hydro-mounts. The vacuum-operated variable engine mounts loosen at idle for better isolation compared with a static mount, while cars equipped with the Sport Chrono package utilize PADM’s dynamic magnetorheological hydraulic transmission mounts in place of the stock fluid-filled units.

Top stuff - every day's a school day [:)]

Having four of the known failure parts with an F4T, if I'm understanding Jeff and Brian correctly, isn't great if you're running a car outside of warranty. Having two with the F6 is bad enough!

It appears that whether you have either an F-6 or an F-4T with PADM there are only two of the offending dynamic hydraulic mounts which seem to be causing all the problems, and they are those mounted on the transmission. I don’t recall having seen mentioned failures of the two vacuum-operated mounts mounted on the F-4T engine, but maybe I’m missing something?

Potentially it sounds as though a failure of the F-4T’s mounting system could be even more expensive with it having four active mounts! 😲

You're not missing anything Jeff, it's the dynamic hydraulic transmission mounts that are problematic not the F4Ts vacuum-operated engine mounts. I misunderstood what you'd said [:D]

 
The dynamic transmission mounts do appear to have a high failure rate judging by the number of posts on this and other forums Dave, which is of concern when you consider the significant cost of replacement.

Oddly enough magnetorheological suspension dampers have been around for a couple of decades [having been developed by Delphi in the US and used by a number of US and European manufacturers, Audi, Lamborghini and Ferrari included] and I think have been proved reliable, so it’s odd that the technology has been problematic in Porsche’s engine mount application. Maybe the different spectral content (powertrain vs suspension) is the issue?

When writing post reports about my 2019 Cayman 2.5t GTS PDK, I checked various press scribes descriptions on the PADM engine and transmission mounts application before including this evolutionary aspect in my reviews.

I am grateful to you Jeff for vindicating my position on this. Whether vacuum or hydraulically actuated, the F4 engine and transmission mounts are dynamic.

I try to be honest in all my postings.
