'Pre 1974' Track Day - Silverstone

BOOKED!was expecting to be told the track day was full, early 40th birthday prezzie.I'm looking to change my' rubber' any feed back on toyo R888?Brett

I, and many other 993 trackdayersm use the Toyo 888s tyres. Do a search on the 993RS forum for more info. Basically they have superb grip when hot, don't like standing water and are very good value. I wouldn't recommend them on a car used mainly on the road, they don't have a lot of grip when cold and the standing water performance can be very scary.

Hi, thanks Nick that info is usefull ,I'm looking at the 225/50/16 for the rears and 205/55/16 up front.Toyo list a 245/45/16 R888 would that affect the running of the car? and would I have to lower the profile again up front?the alloys are 10" rears 9" fronts compmotive fuchs reps.Brett

Hi at work at mo, will post some pics keep posted, car in question is a 72'E RHD saved from the salvage man some years ago,now rebuilt to track/fast road spec RSR theme, inc 3.0 carrera lump and blue on white livery.Brett

Dear all,

Sorry - I've been off the forum while spending time in China and the US - no it wasn't fun! [:D]

If anyone is having problems booking as a NON member for the member price, let me know at 911@porscheclubgb.com as this was agreed with Steve Kevlin and Robin Walker from the outset.

THIS IS NOT the way things will be in the future - if we can get the numbers up, and prove that an Early trackday is what PCGB members want, then future events WILL have differential pricing for member / non-member.

Just to explain - the rationale for the 'same price for all' for this trackday ONLY is to encourage Early Porsche owners of the benefits of being a PCGB member - the eagle eyed will have spotted that the price difference between member and non member is that of a year's membership [;)]

I have just emailed Steve Kevlin to get an update on the numbers - as I've received several emails from people while I've been travelling - I'll update the thread when I get an answer.

Philip

Just a brief update - I've spoken with Steve Kevlin today and to confirm - if you call in and explain you are booking with an Early Porsche for the 30th July, you will be charged the member price EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT a PCGB member - so use the savings in your sky rocket and pay for a year's membership of the PCGB [:)]

As of today there are 38 Early cars booked and paid for [;)] We need a total of 45 and there are at least six other people who've said they want to come but haven't signed up.

SO - if you're thinking of coming - get your name down - it's getting booked up [8D]

Really looking forward to this event now [;)]

Philip

I have managed to co-op another owner today to sign up so one more to add. I'll phone and get him booked in this week.

Ian.

Well done Ian - can you please drop me a mail to 911@porscheclubgb.com and let me know his name so I can keep a track of everyone? [:)]

Thanks

Philip

Feck as they say... [:(]

"Drink!" "Girls!" "I luv my brick!" [:D]

Enjoy the emerald isle and we'll miss you - I'll do more snapping than driving so there'll be plenty of photos on the day [;)]

Philip

I've mentioned the early Porsche trackday in my upcoming Watching Brief in 911 & Porsche World, so hopefully that will drag in a few extra cars.
There'll be a staff snapper there also to record events.
It's important for the early Porsche community that this type of event is seen as a success.

I have since found that silverstone are getting tougher on the noise issue, now any track day booking on the National circuit is 105db at 4500 rpm.So it may be a problem for some people,me included.I do know one of the noise testers who works in the race workshop for the silverstone cars,i will have a word and see if we can get any concessions at all.Or may be ask Steve Kevlin to see if he can.

I am told they are getting close to enough pre-74 cars now. I have just entered my 1965 race 911 which is more or less ready. I am also hoping to get an entry in the Masters GT round in the Classic; but only a reserve at the moment.

The noise issue is very much against 911s because all the noisy bits are near the meter (at the back) for a static test. I am hoping mine will be OK but being old cars they will only rev to 6000, right? That makes a testing RPM of 4000, which would be more favourable.

Look forward to seeing all these lovely early cars being used as intended.

Just had a thought are the club sending tickets or some thing out to us before the monday or do we just turn up , and what time

Just returned from my first track day with the pre-74 cars, and have to say it was brilliant fun.

Great to meet up with so many of the faces behind the names.

I would certainly attend another, so how about it PCGB ?

Finally, a big thnaks to Mike the Instructor - I would totally recommend getting instruction if you are new to track days, or new to a track, as they set you up perfectly to make the most of the circuit during the day.

See you all at the track.

Ian

Just got back and wanted to say what a great day.. I really enjoyed the day and it was nice to see as many classic's on the track as we did.. I would like to say a huge thanks to the organsiers as I understand there was some concern over numbers. But I hope it all worked out ok in the end..

What I will say is this.. for all those who didn't come ..........YOU MISSED OUT ON A GREAT DAY...

Some nice cars out there including Fergus and his stunning 550 I ment to chat to him about his Pre A 54 but he had gone before I noticed. I will catch up with him one day..

I really do hope we do this once a year from now on. You can put me down for next year.. Silverstone is nice and central for most of us..

There was some cars that needed I think to be told to follow the rules alittle as I was the slowest car and I did keep pulling to the right but some cars just PUSHED THEIR LUCK for one more space putting me well off line a number of times. Two white 911's!! in race trim...

Other than that great day, great people and nice to see some really great cars again..including Mikes new baby

Hero of the day has to be Barry!! for all his help with peoples cars I jsut had to take him out in the 912 I think he liked it.. that or he was holding on for dear life :ROFLMAO:

Pic's to follow..

I totaly agree with the instuctor coment thanks guys what a difference!!!

can't tell you how much i wanted to see what my 2.3 914 was capable of, unfortunatly i had to cancel as i need to pay for the restoration of my 356.
