Register Event - Cambridge. 6th November 2005

Helen

Looking forwards to seeing you and Larry in November.

I am due to speak to OPC Cambridge very soon and would like to firm up times etc. Is there anything [other than a substantial discount - just joking - and the gooodie bags] that I should ask OPC Cambridge to arrange or others would like to see/have explained or shown?

What are your [collective] views? IMO a start at about 10.30 a.m. followed by lunch at about 12.30 p.m. - 1.00 p.m. in the pub and then tea and cakes etc. thereafter in the cottage, with a view of older cars between luch and tea if the owners will turn up as promised!

We will have to rely on what Mark and I can arrange and need some feedback please; more feedback as early as possible will make this a succcessful event for all [not just Boxster] Porsche owners who attend.

In view of the limited numbers who can be catered at the pub, some indication of numbers should, if possible, be confirmed to Mark who will liaise with OPC Cambridge and myself [for the pub].

Over to you for your suggestions and ideas.....

That can be arranged [:)] - but we need to book names for test drives in advance (not on the day). Don't forget your driving licence!

Test drives are available but, I think, it would only be fair to warn OPC Cambridge; so please post requests which can be passed on; type of car, body type, transmission type etc.. I fear that Cayman requests will be met with dark mutterings followed by laughter; the consolation is that I understand that some new publicity material may be available, probably to be included in the goodie bag.

The suggested start at Cambridge is 10.30 a.m. with lunch at the White Horse pub in Foxton [about 5 minutes away] at 12.30 p.m. and tea/coffee and cakes/biscuits in Judys' cottage [30 seconds away from the pub] at 3.30 p.m. If the numbers are very large [some hope!] then the pub can do the lunches in 2 sittings. The pub will re-open in the evening but, of course, it will start to get dark then.

I hope that those interested can let both myself and Mark know asap so that I can warn OPC Cambridge and also the pub, and sort out refreshments for the cottage.

Would anyone be offended if I tried to arrange some [local] publicity - with a presentation of a cheque to a charity? the amount might not be large but the publicity to PCGB might be an advantage.

Hope to hear from you soon.

If it's possible I'd like to try a manual 987 'S'. Love to see how much of a difference there is with the new car.

How about activities like showing what is involved in a 111 point check also? The 996 guys had one of those earlier this year. Probably not everyone cup of tea though...

Dependant on numbers, Cambridge have offered to take people round (in groups if we actually have enough turn up!).

If we can get a rough idea of numbers before we go and book test drives, then I or Julian can ask Patsy how she wants to book them. At the moment I think we have 3 who have expressed an interest in test drives, we obviously can't have too many as they will run out of people to accompany drivers! (I bet they would love to have that problem though - so lets see what we can do [;)])

For your information the event has now been mentioned in Porsche Post this month and I have also put posts onto a number of Regional forums.

The suggested cost for tea + charitable donation is £5.00 per person. Almost less than one gallon [whatever that is nowadays in litres] of petrol.

Perhaps all those who wish to come along would be good enough to confirm on this forum as soon as possible so that I can book the pub and warn them of likely numbers. I think that the pub capacity is about 24 meals but they can do more than one sitting on a Sunday afternoon. Don't forget, you pay for the pub meal direct to the pub - the landlord is very kind and helpful and the locals seem to love cars.

I will post a suggested itinary in due course to help everyone.

Of course you can skip the pub lunch and join us in the cottage if you wish after the visit to OPC Cambridge.

Is this a child friendly event? Would it be okay to bring my two well behaved young kids?

Excellent!

I guess it's time to start listing names of attendees... I had a quick tot-up and it was 14 cars as of last night.

Update:
12 cars (where did the other 2 go? - must have double counted [&:])
I've updated the FIRST post in the thread with names. If I've missed intended attendees (partners/children etc) then please let me know - just for the numbers.
Is everyone eating at the pub?

Julian, what time do we drop in for tea 'n cakes at Judy's? After lunch means we are all going to be full! (Apart from Claire - hollow legs you see....)

Mark,

Tea, coffe etc. will be from about 2.30 p.m. - but if it is raining then it can and will be served earlier.

I hope that the 'old' cars will be in the village hall car park. I must admit that I do not know what time IWM [RAF] Duxford is open in the winter; I will try to find out and post the answer asap.

PS Somehow you forget to add Judy to the attendees!!![]!!! She will be a bit surprised that she is not included in the event of which she is, in part, a host.

Baking cakes when there is M&S and Waitrose fairly near by?

And she loves Porsches....even though she cannot drive [yet].

See everyone in November, if not beforehand.
