Good job Waylander brings his mechanics knowledge of 968's (among other cars) over here rather than limiting his expertise and advice to the 968uk forum - as this is the first time I've seen anyone other than him and knowledgeable about 968's posting! mcgc0, where have you been hiding??

Hey thanks for all the advice everyone. The armrest has gone. New part arrived today and fitted this evening, dead easy. I cant find the carbon cannister anywhere to buy online? Any idea on cost?

Looks like my airbox is also missing the snorkel which I guess makes sense to get the air into the other holes. Im going to look for the parts online to fix it, no rush, it seems ok.

Car has been sat for quite some months but the more I drive it the more it seems to go better. I suspect after a service that will help too. It had a big one last time with clutch, cam, chain , fuel pump and other bigger items so shouldnt be too bad this time. Im thinking engine oil and filter, fuel filter, brake fluid and then see what else they pickup/suggest. It seems to have the odd drip, so not sure what that is, bit of a worry so preparing my wallet for the worst.

I hate to be a party pooper, but removing the air filter or drilling holes in it is totally pointless, unless you can keep the engine bay hot air away from it.

as Alex at RS barn will tell you each 10 degrees of air temp getting hotter will sap you of about 5-10 bhp if you use the holes without an airbox shroud you will loose power, if you use a cone filter you will loose power,

for max efficiency and power you want the air as cold and as dense as possible, one reason the turbo / super charger brigade use intercooler's, to get the charge air temp down,

I am sure with a little research you will find the air temp formula correct,

and Alex at RS Barn is the only person I know with a NA 968 over 300 BHP.

the hot start issue will be caused by the pressure retaining valve in the fuel pump, if the fuel pressure drops off to quickly when the engine is very hot the fuel boils in the injectors crating a vapour lock (from the Bosch Fuel Injection Manual) the car will not start on vapour.

I would get you service guys to change the fuel filter and the pump retaining valve that should fix that problem
Thanks Waylander, Ill go primed with this info. It had a new fuel pump 2000 miles ago, but it hasnt done many miles in the last 2 years and I wouldnt be surprised if old fuel has been sat in it which I guess could cause the problem I have?

Im not on the 968UK forum. Is it worth a tenner? Ive never paid to join a forum in all my years, dont want to pay up to find the place is tumbleweed, but if its busy then Ill be there!

968 UK is very active and so is the USA 968 forum

I am no genius expert but have been working with cars both professionally 26 years ago and now as a hobby on my own and other 968's

It's the snorkel that draws cold air from down low but it is a tad restrictive but removing it and just making big holes is a bad idea

For technical breadth and volume (all Porsches) - rennlist. Big 968 racers and Turbo owners there. Common sense filtering as usual prevails with all the info held there.

Just for your info, the snorkel is no longer available as a spare part, the air filter box 944 110 016 10 is top and bottom and clips, and the picture suggests that the snorkel comes with it £120.73

I have a full PET 2 parts system with completely up to date prices.

think we should start a new thread really as the roll call is not the place for this sort of chat

HELP PLEASE HISTORY NEEDED 968,
Recently bought 968 coupe 1992, blue. Reg J512 WRF. The car came from deceased estate and there is no history. It resided in the SWINDON area. MOT was done by same garage last 12 years but they have no record of owner.
Dick Lovatts of Swindon have no knowledge of the car.
i have a suspicion that the car might have seen a track day or two. Has M030 radially mounted callipers and drilled discs in perfect order, so somebody has shown an interest in it. Also on Clubsport Wheels in black. Oil is as clean as can be........but it is down on compression no4!
has anybody any info at all? My thanks in eager anticipation of some history

I think you’re right waylander, check other more popular sights, before the tumbleweed dust covers your car! ??

Look in your service book for dealer and garage service stamps. I had a lot of missing history on my cab when I bought it, saw it was originally from Porsche Guildford so phoned them, they were able to provide some service records from about 1995 when Porsche computerised records. I also was able to contact some of the garages that had serviced the car and obtain more service records from them.

Just joined, but got my 968 back on the road again over the Winter [s1]!

Welcome Callum, nice Horizon Blue cab by the looks of the photo! Roughly where are you? We have an informal 968 gathering at Goodwood on May 11th if you're close! I'm hoping to have my Tahoe Blue cab there, weather permitting, and there should be a few others as well.

You might want to look at porsche968uk.co.uk, a forum pretty specific to 968's and rather more active than the 968 register on PCGB, it's an excellent source of help for problems with the car!

Nice car, lovely colour

come join us at Goodwood if your in range

chris and I drive quite a long way to be there

the car might not be M030 it could have a big black upgrade

you could look to see if it has adjustable coil over Koni on the rear, if it does then it could be a M030 car, but they are pretty rare

Thanks :). Has just had a load of (expensive) work done to it after owning and storing it in a garage for a few years. Who knew sensors could be so expensive!? Such an awesome car though.

My 968 and 924 is in Derbyshire but I’m London based.. getting up and down might be a bit too much - looking forward to getting involved in some of the events this summer though.

After 21 years of 968 ownership and in total 25 years of FE Porsche ownership I yesterday parted with my lovely Tahoe Blue 968 tip cab, as due to advancing age and the sports seats both my wife and I were finding it more and more difficult to get in and out of the car with the roof up. I still wanted a convertible, but am limited for choice due to the size of my garage, so my only decent option was an MB SLK, so have been searching on and off for a year for something that ticked my picketywitch boxes - and one that ticked all but 1 finally appeared. It's a bright red close to the GR of my first 3 Porsches (could not find a GR tip cab when the time came, but Tahoe Blue is rather nice!), has all but 1 of the toys I wanted (so is quite rare) and is in beautiful condition. So we're now owners of a lovely 2008 R171 MB SLK 280 in Fire Opal Red instead of our lovely 1993 968 tip cab. It was a bit of a wrench to say goodbye to her, but advancing age and deteriorating health gave us little option.

Anyone who becomes interested in buying my cab, please feel free to contact me and ensure that the seller shows/gives you the extensive history folder I put together for her - it's a ring binder about 2" thick!!

I did warn you there is not as much space in the car although they are almost the same size

you will find a new way of doing things its not a 968 cab, so the coats will have to go in the boot
