rejecting my Porsche 997 turbo

Hi Guys, just after a little advice really.
I purchased a brand new 997 turbo from Porsche Centre **** last September.
There where problems with the car on the handover date that where documented on the handover sheet regarding dents around the passenger door handle and defects in the paint. I was not going to accept the car but porsche **** confirmed these defects could be repaired without having to paint the car. After driving the vehicle home and having a good look round I noticed even more defects with the vehicle which included a dent in the door of the glove box, more defects in the paint, strange handling issues which turned out to be the geometry completly out, defect in passenger side headlight and numerous interior rattles and strange little circular grease marks on the drivers window that re-appeared as quickly as you cleaned them off.

I felt a little dissapointed but accepted not everything in life is perfect. Some of the defects on the car where repaired by **** but the paint issues and interior rattles where still there. I took the car back to **** for the rattles and the paint to be assessed.
I got a phone call from **** that evening from there service department confirming the defects in the wing and passenger door would require repair and paint and that they could not guarentee the painted panels would match the rest of the car.
On the handover date & in email I had confirmed with the salesman I would not accept a brand new car that required panels to be re-painted through no fault of my own. They seemed to understand my feelings. Anyway the vehicle was formally rejected back in december 2011 due to all the issues the vehicle has had from day one and now having to have paintwork carried out.
It took Porsche **** and the finance company over 2 months to reply to my letter of rejection. They basically replied that they would not accept rejection of the vehicle but would repaint the passenger side door and wing of the vehicle. I decided to let them try to repair these defects despite the fact that they had allready attempted this on numerous occasions.
After another month I was suppose to collect the vehicle but did not receive a phone call to confirm the car was ready. I decided to email them one evening at 11.30pm in hopes that the next morning I would get a call. At midnight I received a email back from the dealer principle confirming that he would call me in the morning with an update.
Next day, still no phone call so I decided to call **** and confirm I would be going over to view the vehicle. The dp then tells me that the car has gone back to the bodyshop as there is a issue with the otherside of the vehicle. I decided to visit the bodyshop to view the vehicle and found another big defect on the drivers side door. This now means that the passenger side of the vehicle has had two panels painted and the drivers side now required 1-2 panels to be repaired and repainted due to a manufacturing defects and no fault of my own.
I have now got a solicitor in contact with the finance company dealing with the rejection. I am very dissapointed with Porsche **** communication skills and more so with the attitude of the dealer principle. I have been as patient with them as I possibly could and have always stayed professional in regards to letters and phone calls.
I had an independant bodyshop assess the vehicle last year and they confirmed that the defects are underneath the base coat of the vehicle and felt this was due to the factory not preparing the panels correctly before paint.
Please understand guys these defects vary in size but the one on the front wing was 10-15cm in diameter and the one on the drivers door is 30cm deep by 8cm across and the other ones on the passenger side vary. This vehicle has always been my wife and I's dream car and after the children had grown up and left the nest we decided to treat ourselfs. It has taken most of mylife (im 60 now) to be in the position to beable to purchase such a wonderfull vehicle and to be treated by Porsche **** like this for me is un-forgivable.
As you all know these cars are very expensive and you don't expect a vehicle like this to have defects with paint-work and body panels + all the other issues. The dp at Porsche **** excuse is all Porsches have dent's around the door handles, and 3/4's of the cars at the dealership have had the front bonnet and bumper re-sprayed. My wife tried to explain to him that if we had purchased a USED vehicle than we would accept this but on a brand new car requiring both sides re-sprayed is crazy and the car would no longer be original. I also mentioned to him that any type of paintwork on this type of vehicle would always raise questions and effect its future value as I have had this confirmed by many high end car dealers, the dp denies this??
Anyway our solicitor is now dealing with the case and feels we are well within our rights to reject this vehicle but I just thought I would ask if any of you had ever had paint issues with your vehicles and what type of service you receive from ****.
As far as I am concerned the sales & finance team all seem to be great guys and very professional but the dp does'nt seem to understand customer care.
The car has now been with porsche centre **** for nearly 6 months and I worked it out in this time we have had use of the vehicle for not even one month.
No new car should have issues and faults like this, you certainly don't expext it from porsche. Ideally I would have preferred to be offered a re-placement vehicle but this does'nt look like it is going to happen.
Anyway any views or advice would be much appreciated. all the best

I am truly amazed

10 years of Porsche and they and the dealers have been good and never had any defects, in fact just before I sold a car a few years back it took a dent and their own bodyshop fixed it up under the other chaps insurance and it was perfect.

It has to be a reject!

Good luck sorting it out

Sale of Goods Act - but unfortunatley they have had an oppurtunity to put the defects right....

Get your lawyer activated. Under the current Sale of Goods act, Porsche deserve a good smack on the bot, because they will know that they have no leg to stand on. They are "trying it on".

You have far far to much patience, 6 months !.
Good luck with it, but it must be rejected .

Steve

Hi, thanks for your post, they supplied me with a courtesy car for all of one day. The very next day I got a call from the service department asking for the courtesy car to be returned asap.

Wow. What an absolute shocker! You need to get a bit more persuasive I think! The very best of luck to you. I think you have been amazingly patient over this.

We are definitely talking about new car....?

Very poor show, Porsche ****. Are they aware of this 'publicity'?

If not I think you should make them aware of it. Can't believe they're willing to risk this sort of reputation in an economic climate like this!

My brother purchased a new Renault years ago - within two weeks you could see rust.

- Back to the Dealer
- They offered re spray
- He said a new car or refund or else
- They said no -respray only
- He gave them one final chance - and as he left the Dealership said they would come to see him in 20 mins.
- He then set up camp outside the Cambridge Evening News just 2 minutes down the road
- Donning sandwich boards with his message - Dont buy a new car From West Renault this is the treatment you will get etc
- 15 minutes later the owner of West's is trying to persuade him to stop his one man demo and return to the Garage
- He had a full refund within the hour

Thanks for all your fast replys guys. Its great to hear club members views and opinions and also makes me feel a little happier knowing other people understand my concerns, thankyou

This is the complete opposite of my experience buying a brand new 997 Turbo from ****. It was perfect on delivery and hasn't had a significant thing go wrong with it in over 4 years and counting...

Seems like it may be a lottery on what you get from the factory given your story.

I'm sorry to hear **** have not been more helpful in this matter - that's the real shocker for me.

This is totally unsatisfactory and I'm surprised you've been so patient. It's easy with hindsight but it may have been best if you'd refused to take delivery at all. Part of the problem is that Porsche UK don't seem to be too concerned about anything to do with customer service at present otherwise I'd suggest you escalate the matter to them. Geoff Turral has just left and his replacement doesn't take up the post until 1st April I think, but you ought to consider giving this wider publicity via the media - some of the motor mags / Top Gear etc and then Porsche UK might sit up and take notice. I'm beginning to think that Porsche's Quality Control standards are slipping now that they've openly set themselves such high sales targets. Best of luck and keep us all posted on developments.

It's a shame you didn't post on this forum earlier, as you can see there's a bunch of good advice. I'm disappointed that OPC **** has not been better at dealing with an obvious problem such as you describe. Equally, to give you a courtesy car for a day is ridiculous. I know for a fact that my local opc has had their demonstrator out for long term loan for a customer with a problem car.

As far as paintwork is concerned, there shouldn't be a major issue if the work is done perfectly. I had my new car detailed recently and there were no problems with the paint from the factory. However, the coverage is wildly variable across the car, between 100 and 310 microns. And this is typical.

Dents are another thing.

I contacted trading standards last year and followed there advice all the way through.
I spoke to them recently and they felt that we had given Porsche **** more than enough time to rectify the car.
It was trading standards advice that finally made me get a solicitor on the case. I will look into to contacting a few magazines over the next few days to see if any of them are interested in following the story.

Chaps, having consulted with my fellow moderator on this thread the view is that forum rules don't allow for the dreaded "name and shame" so all references to the particular PC involved have been removed. Please keep it that way - thank you

Totally agree - I guess no centre would want potential customers reading this[;)]

What a great shame, I really feel for you, mind you I would have rejected the car much sooner if it had been brand new.
Pity about the forum rules but then that's the way, I do hope it's a one off , if not then you should name them on an other forum without the rule.

Only thing to make you smile I had my Ferrai 430 from 2 weeks old and in 2 years it spent at least 11 weeks in repairs including much body work, mind you most Ferrai owners dare not use thier car all year anyway... Sorry chaps LOL

OP, were you on Pistonheads? Seems like that thread has been closed, at least here it's still ongoing.

Which is as it should. This name and shame is a load of bollocks, we can blow smoke up OPC's arses about how good they are but when they are as ignorant of the customer as they seem here, they should be named as well.

Screwed up world we live in....

Hi Mike, yes I did put a post on pistonheads, whatever happened to freedom of speech.
If we end up going to court with the problems I will be getting a website made with the full story and out come.
I understand that there is always two sides to a story but I have been completly honest in this post and have all the relevant paper work and emails to
back it up.
I feel that future buyers have the right to know how we have been treated once the dealership had taken our hard earned cash.
thanks for you post m8
