Retro Fit X51 Power Kit

Thanks for that, had a read and have to say these journos are a bit single minded sometimes.

I quote: "There's really no reason not to"

Yes there is, One. And it's potentially a very big and very expensive reason. Your warranty is invalid.

Or perhaps Henry Catchpole's belief that if you can afford a turbo, you can afford the upgrade is further extended to the fact that you can also afford to pick up the pieces if it falls apart?

I've been midly surprised how the car pauses for thought at low revs,

If the X50 is anything to go by (996 turbo upgrade from 420bhp to 450bhp) the larger turbos (K24s vs K16s) led to even more turbo lag...so I doubt the 997 version will be much different. Bigger turbos need more time to spool up.

I don't think I'd go that far and change turbos, but remap and exaust as per the EVO example might one day be an option. I know my RS6 became much more responsive with a custom remap.

Had an email or two from Mike at DMS, he mentioned that the exhaust/remap would eradicate the lag issue...

QUOTE:

"The new VG turbos are supposed to be lag free and in a sense they are. It is the effect of the changing geometry than can feel as though nothing is happening. The re map and exhaust will eradicate that.

ECU upgrade £2200+ Vat

Sports Exhaust £2400+ Vat

As a package with both of the above £5000 inc vat (installed)

ECU takes car to around 535 BHP and with exhaust to 550 BHP.

Porsche have a very liberal view to the changing of exhaust systems, the ECU work is undetectable and the turbochargers appear outwardly identical."

Not in my experience they dont !

They dont like anything which isnt Porsche approved, write to your Dealer Principal about it and see what response you get !!

Got some contact details for them? - it wouldn't hurt just to find out a little more.............. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Short term I am likely to staf as is - My leaflet is telling me that the x51 doesn't develop full power for 8 -10k miles, as I am only at 3.5k I am not yet realising the full power of the darkside yet so have away to go to enjoy the current set up. Also I have a very good insurance quote for business use that only allows me alterations of up to 10% on power before it get a bit punative

One the warranty is up I am definatley visiting the tuners paradise

Hi Okellyt,

That's interesting re the leaflet saying 8-10K miles before full benefit of the X51.

I had this on the car from new (factory) and have done 3K5 miles.

What is the leaflet you mention? I never got a leaflet with the car.

Thanks,

Greg

Greg,

I dont have a leaflet either, have requested one though.

Only 49 miles to go before the rev limiter comes off for me ( 1k self imposed re-running in period ).

Hang on a minute, that means I've only done 1000 miles in the last 6 months !

5,500 - 7,000 rpm is a hoot or more accurately the uninterupted shove from 3000 - 7000 rpm is a complete hoot
