Retro Fit X51 Power Kit

Yves, Sorry for the delay, car is noticeably different. Its hard to feel the difference in normal mode but when you push the sport button hold on!!!!!!! Torque is much lower down I would say at around 2500rpm the torque is there and then its wild!!!! On the way back the car sat so comfortable at 100mph it was scary and then you put your foot down and its an immediate pull away. Is it worth the money? That's the million dollar question Regards, Richard

Yves and others

Thanks for the feedback - I've gone for a C2S with the X51 Powerkit, Short Shifter and Sports Chrono (Basalt Black with Sand Beige interior).

As I'll also be doing a lot of miles for work and parking odd palces I went for Cruise Control and Park assist (I know I am a wimp but I don't want to bend the car)

Now I only have to wait to March to pick it up

Point taken on how it feels to drive - this is everything, however I have had it froms everal sources now that the Powerkit C2S cracks 0-100 in 10 ses, which is ****ing fast by anyone standards, cruise control might be a licence saver.......

Thanks

Tom

Tom,

Nice spec Tom, similar to mine !

Good news for you is that X51 Powerkit figures are nice and conservative, if you have any reference point, the reality is much better than the paper figures.

Dont get too hung up on the 'on paper' figures. This car will dip below 10 secs to 100mph any day of the week, as long as its dry !

At one point in time our American Brothers were quoting 0-60 mph times ( I know, not 0-62 ! ) in under 4 seconds ! Wonder how many cars they wrecked in the process though.....

Good choice.

Yves

Yves,

So have you completed your run-in period yet? If so any additional feedback (just for my own torture)?

It looks like the facelift with Direct Injection will push the base 'S' over the 370bhp mark. Be interesting to see if the Powerkit version can make it passed the 400bhp barrier.

Cheers,

-Alex

Afraid not !

My car is a bit of a garage Queen, she has only seen light of day twice since last November !

I did manage to get a full heat cycle through everything one day over Christmas ( the roads were dry ) and was shocked at the savagry of the power delivery and easy speed. Mind you I had driven nothing but diesels for several weeks !

I have done about 500 miles on the reworked angine and intend to do another 500 before it gets the full beans.

Roll on Spring.

Yves

Hi,

It's Flash from the Rennteam board here. I found a link to this thread from Rennteam, and hence found this board. Bonus :)

That's 2 1/2 months since the Powerkit was retro fitted byt OPC Aberdeen. In that time I've done 3000+ miles. Prior to the kit being fitted I had done approx 7000 miles over the course of 5 months with the car in standard C4S spec. My car does not have the 'sport mode' option with enahnced throttle response though.

With more miles the difference in performance above 5000 rpm has become much more evident, however some of this may be attributed to the engine loosening off - whose to say?. As previously stated, the extra bottom end torque was very welcome, it is now very hard to stall the car when pulling away at low revs, and no need to slip the clutch. IMO the standard car is really lacking in low down torque. The midrange is phenominal. Very very strong, and continually builds urge. At 5000 rpm thimgs go into warp speed. The is more chance of bouncing off the limiter though because the car build urge all the way to... well the limiter LOL. It's a shame the limiter is a hard cut!

For some fun, try holding the car at 5000rpm in 3rd gear (or 4th gear is you are very brave), then suddenly plant the throttle all the way. Bury it! The response is electric, and the car instantly surges forward like you just hit boost in a turbo car. This is the quintessential X51 moment :) Would like to see a standard C2S or C4S vs their X51 equivalents in a 5000rpm 3rd gear roll on. I would expect the powerkitted cars to walk away from the standard cars.

If you are ordering a new S model, then make sure you tick the X51 box. As for a retro-fit... well to me it's worth every penny of the £10K that I paid. I've spent a lot more on mods (for other cars) that promised more and delivered much much less. Nobody is going to be dissapointed. If someone blind tested them (well not literally blind heh heh) then they would easily be able to discern the X51 car. Likewise passengers with less experience of the car will often comment "Wow this thing is much faster and louder than I remembered". I kept the details of the kit secret from my wife (especially the price) and she noticed straight away. I attributed the improvement to a recall on the air filter ;)

Hope this insight proves useful to someone.

Good peice of info.

Its just making the two more months I have to wait for mine more painful.

Found some of Porsches own figures the other day that seem to bear your comments out. 0.9 Secs faster to 100 and 1.5 secs faster to 124 than the stock 2S and 4S - this would all seem to come in the mid range and mid gears (4.6s, 9.8s, 14.9s C2S X51 versus 4.8, 10.7, 16.5 for stock C2S, 0-60, 0-100, 0-124)

The main bit for me is how everyone who has the X51kit describes how it feels to drive, which matters far more than the figures

Can't wait

Me too !, all I would admit to is 'couple of grand' and 'more economical' than changing the car for a new one'. [&:]

You will not be dissappointed.

Its all about the grin factor and this car delivers big ones. [:)]

Makes me feel like a Le Mans driver steaming down the Mulsanne straight in a 962 Prototype everytime I climb in !

Priceless.

You have now created the the perfect image told hold in my head the first time I floor the throttle on the new beastie

To distract myself from he pain of waiting for delivery,I shall go and book the deposities 911 Experience to keep the additction levels up until the new car arrives.

Milbrook or Mira any views?

I did MIRA last year so fancy Millbrook as I have not been there

By the way, how many miles is the running in for the X51 and what the rev limit?

okellyt,

Oh, I forgot to mention, I win the race everytime too !

You must do Millbrook, it is absolutely awesome and showcases the 911's skills very well. Much prettier surroundings thanMIRA too me thinks.

Running in I think you are allowed 5000 - 5500 rpm ish for around 3000km ( 1862 miles ). I was very patient ( dont like odd numbers anyway ! ) and ran mine in to 2000 miles.

Its pleanty quick enough at these engine speeds in anycase so not a problem.

March will soon be here !!

Mine seems quite normal but then I had it fitted from new & didn't really test drive a stock S beforehand.

Can't see how/why anyone would want anything faster quite frankly.

Greg

you really don't need anything faster than a stock boxster really.

that mises hepoit - human nature we always want more and faster

I was content until t he Silverstone trck day when my Boxster S was left for dead by all these modified GT3's getting ontot hes tri nevermond ont he straight. then I realised you can never have too much power as long as you have the chassis, breaks and tyres to handle it.

I give myself two years to learn to drive the X51 C2S, two year sto enjoy ot and then I'll need a software/chip power upgrade, then more - RUF have already seen me coming

Yves

Sold me on millbrook

As I do about 1200 miles a month that'll be nicely run in for early summer[:D]

We all need more power. always. its human nature[;)]

So now we have 94, any more takers?

Less than a month now to find out if I'll need more power, eta for the beast 1st March

You know what they say, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely !

Just taken mine out for a spin and its first tank of fuel since November last year ! Absolute pleasure and looking forward to the Spring when I can use her more often and all of that steroid enhanced power. Not taken her over 5500rpm in anger yet and boy is it fast. [:)]

Life is good

Yves

25 more days before I join you on the X51 junkies list.

I normally do about 1000 miles a month so it should be run in by sometime April - then we'll see what a 100 extra horses over current beast does.
