Retro Fit X51 Power Kit

Just to make it 101

The beast arrives on 01 March - then I'll ge to find out what all the fuss about the x51 powerkit is about

I'll just have to order up dry empty roads and no police/camera's. Hmm wrong country

An opinion will be posted once I've tried it.

No fuss mate, just pleanty of oomph ! There might be a sneak preview for you in the forthcoming Porsche Post.........

Trust you are going to bed the machinery in as per Porsche's directions for 3000km ?

Hoping to take mine out for a run saturday, she will have been stationary for three weeks at that point !

Thanks for the reminder - I shall be good [8|] and keep her under the required speed/rev limitations for the first 3000km. As I do about 1300 miles a month for work - that'll mean I can go fro full power in oh April or May at worst.

As I am stepping up from a 987S, even keeping it under 5000rpm - it'll probably still scare the life out of me/bring a very broad grin to my face[:D]

Good timing i think - I can gently ease myself into an extra 100bhp as we move into spring and early summer, when hopefully the beast can be used properly. I feel another track day coming on probably mid/late summer

Saw the beast at my OPC today in the metal, very nice - Roll on thursday[:D][:D][:D]

Got my lecture about keeping revs down and vaired for the first 1500+ miles, so I'll have to enjoy the extra torque until the beast is run in.[:D][:D][:D]

The OPC did indicate that 5.5k revs equals about 140mph so it shouldn't get in the way of motorway trips for work, where I always keep to the speed limits.[:D][:D][:D]

okellyt,

There may be a recommended max speed when running in, 100mph or something.

I will check my manual.

Your poor old Boxster ( respect nevertheless ) is going to feel like an asthmatic ant carrying some heavy shopping compared to the 911 at running in speeds.

Nice report in Porsche Post Yves!!

...thanks for frustrating me even further [:(]

PS: Before you ask, my OPC asked if I wanted another test drive in their new Turbo coming in the first week of March. I told them no, not until either:

a) Powerkit comes out for it (or at least is retro-fittable - there's talk of just being a Turbo S with 3.8L engine, so it wouldn't fit on current models)
b) PDK comes out - but to be honest, if LSD doesn't come with it, I would rather have a manual I think
c) PSE is available
d) Direct Injection comes out (like for the facelift Carrera and new Cayenne)

...so I guess I will just have to wait and see (and continue to watch my current car depreciate)

Also enjoyed your article in Porsche Post, good photos too.

Like others I'm also waiting for March 1st (especially since I chopped mine in last year at the time I placed the order so that I could get a guaranteed trade-in price). This means that not only am I suffering withdrawl symptoms but anticipation syndrome as well.

I have sat in the car (C4S+X51, short shift etc.) and even started her up and gone brrrmm, brrmm (sad but true) but once I've collected the car on Thursday and had a short drive to acclimatise then it's London/Edinburgh and back over the weekend.

Once everything is run in I think I'll re-visit the thread with the "always on" solutions for the PSE. (underground car park ... understanding neighbours ... so far! )

Glad you like the article Guys, I had almost forgotten about it until Porsche Post arrived today.

Just going to read it through now to see if any bits have been omitted, doesnt look like it upon first glance.

Alex, regarding your wish list, I have it on good authority that the X50 turbo will be available late this year, what have you been told ?

Yves

Rob

I am with you - roll on the 1st[:D]

Yves - nice article, liked the Picci's. But none of you? Accident or design?

okellyt,

I asked to remain annonymous [:(] as I like my privacy !

You can meet the man behind the mask at this years Register day out and we can then compare notes.

See you then - of course as I'll be running in I'll be taking it gently at the back, keeping out of the way of the Turbo's and your run in x51 upgrade[:D][:D][:D]

Don't worry about the turbo's, they will keep a respectful distance !

Hey you two behave [;)], were watching you know...:ROFLMAO:

Great article YvesD [:D], nicely worded and great pictures.. although some factual errors (namely to do with Turbos [;)])

I look forward to meeting/comparing sizes on the Registry day...

Thanks garyw,

If I may just clarify on the 'factual errors' you describe, the article reference to the the turbo was to descibe the response/torque surge, there is of course no turbo in the X51 kit.

Where is the Register day this year by the way ?
