Saratoga Sunroof - Bulk-Buy

Mine is arriving on Thursday and I'm quite excited. As it's going on an S2 then I'll be able to test it at truly high speeds and I'll report back to you Turbo boys with my findings.

I'll confess to being a little unsettled by the following comment from Nick when asked about the Warranty on the rooves;

NickFromPilkington said:
Warranty - we don’t offer a ‘warranty’ but manufacturing defects with the glass is generally 12 months.

Of course if you have issues (like the catches) feel free to ask me.

I can't believe that they won't put in some effort if there are problems but it sounds like we may be a little on our own if things get sticky.

Oli.

dunno really, just lost a bit of mometum with the car,

being off sick for the last 3 months after a heart bypass has really slowed me down

Alas - that doesn't sound like fun. Sorry to hear it.

Wouldn't something that is quick and easy and make a substantial difference to the car help cheer you up? Fitting a Saratoga sunroof must be one of the easiest things to do to the car and should make it a nicer machine.

Oli.

Hi Oli

the bypass was quite a shock, the doc says to me it will be a traumatic experience, that did not even start to cover it!!!

but yes it would make a difference but plans maybe afoot for a Cayman.

sell my A4 and the 968 and see what carries on

all speculation right now, but they do look good, plenty of pics on the 968 uk site

Hmmm, Cayman. Now that's about the only car available which would tempt me out of my 944 at the moment. (OK, maybe an F-type jag would too).

Sorry to hear that things have been traumatic of late. Best wishes for the recovery. Bear in mind that there were worse outcomes than things being traumatic ...

Always thinking about it blade, but will probably never do anything about it

just got a new pair of B6 dampers for the rear, (in exchange for a iPhone 5s) and a few other bits

and to keep the thread on topic the new roof

is at my bros right now and he says the edge seal looks very wonky and he had a hell of a job getting the glue off the glass from the packing

I understand that. Before I'd even bought my turbo I had plans for a 3.0 conversion, but the motivation to spend days pulling the car apart and sinking thousands into it isn't strong now. And a much newer performance car that I could just drive and wouldn't need as much looking after is tempting. Something like a 997 4S maybe.

I used white spirit on a soft rag. Then I used a general purpose surface cleaner with paper towel and finally a good quality glass cleaner with a microfibre cloth.

I found this worked perfectly....apart from the fingerprints left on it from where I put it back on the car!

Chaps,

How are people getting on with these super-duper Saratoga Sunrooves? More specifically, I am now on my second one (the first one went back to Pilkingtons as there were defects in the glass) and I'm not entirely happy with it, for two reasons;

- The outer seal that sits into the edge of the aperture in the car. This seal is decorative (the inner, softer seal does the sealing) but it is not stuck onto the glass well (and is not actually attached at all 'round the corners) and hence doesn't sit down into the gap around the glass when the roof is closed. I think this is a simple matter of attaching it to the glass properly, which may entail removing it and re-attaching it more neatly as it seems there is more length of seal than necessary. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone recommend a product to use to re-attach it to the glass or should I ask Nick of NSG?

- I'm struggling with the clamps on the inside of the car; the one on the right seems to work OK but the one on the left is adjusted such that it won't close, and the handle of the clamp seems to be made of a soft plastic (polypropylene) which mean you can't exert much force on it. I am guessing that this is one of the things that the owners are meant to adjust themselves, but I can't see how to do this. If anyone can shed some light then I'd be grateful - thanks.

I'm sure that these are just teething troubles and that the roof will be marvellous when it's all as it should be but I can't imagine a product like this being sold by a Porsche dealer as it stands.

I have not tried mine yet, life has just got in the way and I have not got round to fitting it yet but I intend on trial fitting it at the weekend.

That is depressing news, as I am waiting for mine.

And as you say, pretty poor: not up to Porsche standards.
