silver rose owners

Just out of interest - what is a light weight windscreen. Is it thinner glass or made out of something different?

Sounds like yours might be a Silver Rose, Hilux. Wizard, your's is an early MY'89 car. Linen leather isn't exactly rare, in fact it was quite possibly the most common leather colour, but it is the most valuable today, presumably because it's the hardest to keep looking good.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Leather is very rare on a Silver Rose from the cars I looked at - even sports seats were rare.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Lee - I saw your car at JamSport (I think?) and it's my favourite dark blue as well as very rare.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Hi Fen

Yes that was my car at Jamsport last year.

I believe the colour was only available for the year 1988.

Glad you liked it

Lee

In this link http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/4786/ it is interesting to see on the 'production' page how many blues there were in the U.S.

I have not really looked at these cars before. After cramming up on them I have come to this conclusion, I would change the interior and burn it a.s.a.p.[:'(][:'(][:'(] Pink plaid?

OT
This last link http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1461702 is, I'm sure you would all agree a literary triumph[;)]

mmmmmmm[&o]just a hint of pink but mostly burgundy may have to hurry upwth the leather interior to stop the p**s being taken.....still leave subarus standing pink[&o] or not

Dead right!!

Hold on a second lads, whats all this about ganging up on the silver rose[], it was a ltd edition car launched for a reason. If it wasn't for it you would all be driving 220bhp turbos around wishing you could have a subaru.

Well this is what I keep telling myself anyway![:)]

I am hoping that mine will be worth somthing in a few years time. It is completely standard and has been in my family since it was picked up from the dealership 73000 miles ago.

I am very interested in finding out how many turbo se - silver rose cars are left. well how many turbos and se's would be good to know, how many do you think have not been modded!? Anyone want to start a list?!?

A turbo s is generally an import - not the same, the silver rose was the celebration car that the other turbos followed from. They were released to homologate the new factory cup car, as they were being whooped by priviteers in the porsche cup series. I think it was the only colour you could get when first released, there were about 3 dealer options, And leather seats were not one as I think they weigh more than the cloth, and why bother with a light screen if you are going to hammer the pounds back on!

I think there are around 20 RHD official silver roses left in the uk, but this is a guess if any one knows of an up-to-date list please let me know!

Oh and you forgot about the big sticker, this wasn't to everyones taste either, but it stands out from other turbos of the same age.

Rich.

I always thought the difference was:-

1) 87/88 - Silver Rose "limited Edition" with 250bhp
2) 88/89 Turbo "S" with 250bhp, not "limited edition"
3) 89-91 Turbo SE (without the "SE!"), 250bhp - bridge spoiler and no big sticker on the wing.

I also heard there was alot of very p!$$ed off Silver Rose buyers, as it was meant to be a homologation special!

Oh, and mines completely standard thanks!!

Leather is very rare on a Silver Rose from the cars I looked at - even sports seats were rare.

Mine is half leather with pin stripes. I`m certain that the couple of silver roses I looked at were half leather also. I dont recall any of the 16 or so cars I looked at being all cloth seats.

I know where there is an absolute minter with full history for *cough* ÂŁ10.5k

All the Silver Rose cars I looked at were full cloth non-sport seats, the vast majority in "studio" tartan material.

As I understand it there was no official "Silver Rose" name (apart from the colour) and I imagine the factory and dealers would have called the special edition 250bhp cars available in 1988 "Turbo S". Similarly I don't believe Turbo SE was official nomenclature but I consider it to mean any 250bhp Turbo that is not a "Silver Rose" spec special edition car - perhaps it was used by UK dealers.

Americans consider anything 250bhp to be a Turbo S but remember they stopped getting the Turbo very soon after the Silver Rose cars were built and am '89 Turbo US car is very rare.

Check out the sexy interior, proper 80's pimp.

I think the leather options came on the later turbos, but I am pretty certain that the Original 'Silver Rose' - UK spec batch only came with the cloth trim, which hopefully is shown on this picture!

As you can see, there is alot of burgandy, and not much pink.

Rich.

thats the same colour as mine only thing is seat is shot what do you reckon on me getting the same material to keep car original....at least theres 2 of us so far [8|]

If your are looking for material, just ask a Bay City Rollers fan to look in thier loft [:D]

Still looking for grey/green pinstrip material for my seats.

Mike

[:D]oh come on even a cabbage got a heart[8D] wont have interior 4 much longer[&o]gonna get leather[;)]

ORIGINAL: silver rose baz

[:D]oh come on boys it's not that pink[]it's more.................mauve?[:'(]ish:ROFLMAO:[sm=spanner5.gif]

No, I think it is more burgundy and PINK. And in most lighting conditions the paintwork looks PINK. Let's be honest (aside FAB1) pink and cars should never ever be seen together.

Just when I thought I had made an unquestionable statement it occurs to me that Tiffany Dell's Turbo Cup car was White, Blue and Pink.[8|]

Baz, don't feel you have to change the seats to please the guys on this forum! If it were me I would try to keep the car as standard as possible. However if you change the interior I think you will loose some of the value and so make my car more sort after,

So go for full leather and re-spray it red/ black or blue like every other 944 you seem to see on the road.[:D]

You could be like the turbo boys and go down halfords for a neon kit and some blue washer jets. Then kid yourself that it will be worth the same once it has done 4 million miles. (or just buy an rs turbo and hang around mcdonalds on a friday night)

Even if the car is classed as pink (in your eyes), then I think the guys driving cabrios need to check there tendancies. or did they issue them with scissors and a hair dressers chair? (excluding the turbo cabs of course.)[;)]

Now wheres my handbag...............

I have to say all this down talking of the silver rose is a bit unfair. I am a fan of the silver rose, like the colour, think the interior is different and makes the car interesting.

As has been said the car was the father of the later more powerful turbos and for that reason should be shown some respect. The lightweight approach take on the car by Porsche also makes this an interesting bit of 944 history (screen etc), with items like, sunroof and leather not being original options. All of which add weight (and raise the COG in the case of a sunroof), that any fan of driving knows is not a good thing.

I would say to anyone who has a limited edition car that has some real interesting content (like the silver rose) to keep it original as much as poss. As cars such as the silver rose are the real classics of the future (if not already).
