Spa Francorchamps and Zandvoort 2014

Zandvoort 12 hours being shown on Motors TV at 07.20 tomorrow. Worthwhile viewing for those attending the trackday, no doubt.

I'm a bit late with this but I've just checked the BAT site and there are still garages spare and some early-ish instruction slots available.

I will book both but I don't see too many familiar names listed for tuition. Is this because many of you know the track well already?

Most of us know it well.

Plus - we used to get instruction from Sean Edwards. He'll be missed. [:(]

Like Paul says most of us have been before. As a first timer you're very wise to have booked tuition and will enjoy it even more after the instructor has talked your round it. [:)]

I second that - I have been once before in the rain/snow and I am taking instruction with Sarah Reader (highly recommended)....

Looks like my car will not be shipped on time but I will be there anyway. If anyone wants free casual tuition I will be happy to oblige. I know the track well. Just pm me.

Just booked Sarah for an early session, I'll warm her up for you, Kevin! Garage also booked, number 18 next to Lawrence.

And now I read that Phil is offering instruction, oh well. Excited now, as is my fellow traveller (Tony) but for different reasons as his 2.8RSR homage project is still being assembled. It will be ready though.

Ian

Sarah Reader - very cool, she's been doing really well in the Juno this year hasnt she. Used to do a lot of caterham stuff v. well too. Cool.

Final packing commencing.

Phil, shame your car cant make it, if you are bored and fancy coming up with Oliver and I you'd welcome. If not you may want to drop by and talk early cars!

So, the only thing slower than a 964 on Kemmel is no car then? If so, I recommend Beckett, " En attendant Godot".[:D]

Despite that recommendation, I hope the car will arrive soon.

Well, I might drive my diesel barge to take a break from Beckett and go 964 hunting. I am not impressed with the company supposed to ship my RSR though. They are as slow as the fabled Kemmel procession.

I am reluctant to be the first to mention this but the forecasts mainly show rain. Is the weather at Spa so variable that they daren't not list the potential for rain or does it simply rain there evry day?

Can anyone recommend the most reliable site, please?

My 888s are almost worn out, I think heavy rain will be beyond them and would reluctantly use my P zero's if heavy rain is likely.

In partial answer to my own question, I have just had another look at the BBC weather page for Spa and having now scrolled down below the graphic there is a map of Europe that shows the movement per half day of the various weather systems. The graphic insists on showing heavy rain for Sunday and light rain from early morning onwards for Monday but the map actually indicates heavy rain on Sunday moving away in the afternoon with no rain for Monday so I wonder if they are just covering themselves against a remnant of rain on Monday.

Therefore, not looking too bad, I'll keep my eye on it unless Mel thinks I'll jinx the weather!

I have a good iPhone App (that does not tend to let me down when I travel). It shows a dry day with some sunshine and some clouds. Temps between 13 and 19 C and low prob of rain < 10%.

ditto - use wetherpro and mateoEarth, they saved me last time at SPA when they forecast freezing temps and snow, and they were right.
Monday is looking good although surrounded by rain which means if the butterfly flaps its wings it could rain. I will wait until Saturday afternoon and see if I need to swap the Cups for road tyres.
Darn - why can't it be a heat wave from Sunday to Tuesday.

Seriously though Ian, you should try it.... it helps with forward planning, aids smoothness, helps with carrying speed through the corners and saves on brake wear!! [;)]

Don't be a wimp Ian ! You could have got those nice people at Easytrack to transport your shagged toyos over and back for £50 , probably even fit them at track for you.....

anyway , assuming they are at least road legal tread depth just take it easy on the journey - 100kph will get you there without drama- then on track be careful and keep off the painted kerbs IF its wet....

Went out with Shedwards in pouring rain once , hardly anyone on track , I was sooo smooth and careful that he fell asleep and I began to hear gentle snoring over the helmet intercom [:D]

John

I certainly won't be a whimp, the Toyos are going on tonight and that's that.

As pointed out above, the forecast isn't too bad, build up gradually etc.

Looking forward to seeing you all.

Ian

OK Ian , good call.

Meantime in the sunlit uplands of Cheshire , Kevin has been preparing for the event with Ninemeister putting the final polish on the Rubystone clubsport.....
