Spa Francorchamps and Zandvoort 2014

ORIGINAL: PhilRS

A lot happens above or near 100mph. At these speeds big mistakes with the lines often lead to big crashes--particularly at Raidillon.

I remember an otherwise boisterous crowd looking very solemnly at their beers, on the terrasse of Relais de Pommard, the day before the trackday, having gone to see what Raidillon really was like. Even Des was silenced! [:D][:D]

I've just been watching some of the Motors TV coverage of the WEC Spa 6 Hours (Porsche 919 still leading at the point where I stopped watching) I've set it to 'record' and will definitely be having another look as it gives added perspective to go with all the youtube clips that I've been looking at. That is one challenging track!

Mike Bert, who has his 2.8RSR looked after by the same guy as I do, apparently told my mechanic that he had to use all of his considerable experience (and talent) to avoid crashing there and couldn't wait to hand said car over to his co-driver Ziggi Brunn as soon as he could.

It's all making me nervous!

Ian

Ahh le relais....had many a beer there to driwn sorrows or celebrate. Fun place.

OOh --- errrrr --- 'check the dive for the pit wall !

It's a peculiar feeling sitting in the collecting area with slicks pressured up for a dry race, when it starts raining ...

My insurance is due for renewal. I'm currently with Classic Line and find them good and very accommodating where trackdays are concerned. However, I thought I'd try the club's associates at Lockton and whilst they've not given me an actual quote yet they did not sound at all confident about quoting me for Spa.

I seem to remember people saying on this forum that Classic Line are happy to cover Spa. Have many of you made arrangements, where needed, yet?

Ian

Ian,
I am with Manning, their cover includes Spa and unlimited UK track days at no extra cost - trackday excess is 10% of agreed value, road excess £500
Cheers,
kevin

I tried Lockton. The price was great and they include cover for PCGB trackdays. However, they would not budge on extending the cover to other TDOs (i.e. no cover for Spa) and seemed to have very little knowledge of trackdays in general. So I stayed with Classicline.

Just renewed with Classicline, so straightforward and I have to say so cheap considering the ever-increasing values

OK mate. I will be sending an e-mail out soon to all those stopping at our hotel with some directions (from the point you pass the Spa turn off) to make it easy to find it.

Mel, did you get on the hoek - harwich ferry on the night after Zaandvort, I've just booked it, as need to be back in UK on Friday am.

If you have it handy can you also remind us of how much cash we will need for the Hotel / Tuition etc ?

For the St Hubert Hotel at Spa it'll work out at just under 200 euro per person for the two nights - that will include all food and beer. You'll have already paid for B&B for the Bastion Hotel near Zandvoort when you booked it so you'll just need to pay for dinner and beer there. Tuition is £30 per session IIRC. You're better off editing your booking with BaT and paying for it in advance as I guess there won't be many spare slots on the day.
