Suspension & Brake refresh

No problem but more to the point have you got what you wanted? I was down your way today at the OPC collecting a lower steering shaft.

Well the kit is the right one - PSX, just miffed about not having the front struts included. I will see what Spax say on Monday. The boys at Colchester are good and helpful, do you get any discount?

the 87 struts are sealed ,not rebuildable like the early ones , you might have a problem fitting those inserts.

I did get discount and a tax disc holder which I was chuffed about. Andy put up a picture of what Spax have sent you.

I too thought that what appears to be the greater and lesser RSX kits were, in fact the PSX and the RSX. Bummer.

The 87 struts are rebuildable, just not as simply; there's a guide on Paragon's website as you need to do this to fit the Koni inserts. It involves drilling a hole in the bottom of the strut to let the oil out and allow you to bolt the new insert in and cutting the strut down a set amount too.

Here is what I have got.....

Yeah but only the konis because they mount with that bottom bolt but all other inserts dont have that. That is a feature koni offers up , it doesn't mean they are rebuildable . I can think of 2 other mods right off the bat to mount them in the late struts but it's not a bolt on job .

The rear shocks look the same as mine. Be careful when doing up the top nut, you will nees to hold the telescopic section with a spanner to tighten down but remember this is also the adjuster for your ride settings. I managed to get hold of a second adjustment knob on e bay and I have since drilled holes in the top of the rubber bung (that covers the top nut) and plan to make the adjustment knob a permanent feature although I might need to make them slightly shorter to clear the bonnet. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Spax-TAG-TAP-top-adjustable-shock-absorber-adjuster-knob-/271110647450?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f1f742e9a

ORIGINAL: 944 man I honestly dont know, as a 'bracket spring' sounds a little like a 'flange key' - rather generic and meaningless if youre starting from scratch. Hopefully someone else will be more enlightened. Alasdair is good with this sort of thing, in my experience. If you read his Al, can you think of any reason why damper kits which incorporate front springs are listed as 'all except Turbo/S2'? Simon
Dont know, but the 250 turbos without Konis had smaller diameter springs as per the 968, the koni equipped cars had conical springs which are narrower at one end. Cant remember if it was to clear the tyres or brakes. I think most 944 s2's also have the smaller dia springs. I think the 220 turbos had the larger dia front springs. So front struts need a spring perch to suit the springs. As has been said to fit inserts to later struts you need the special inserts (koni only as far as I know) and to adapt the old struts with cutting /drilling.

Well the Spax inserts are correct, what I don't understand is that nowhere does it say about drilling, cutting and adapting existing struts all of which I am not happy about undertaking. I have spoken with the supplier and they can supply the RSX full coilover kit for £590, so I think I will go with that. Thanks for all you help guys, without your knowledge I could have really ended up one of those S*#T streets

Andy, can you confirm that Venom have offered to supply a Spax RSX118 (complete front strut with rear coilover) kit for £590?

Simon, haven't got it in writing but yes that is what I have been quoted over the phone, I will be sending the PSX kit back tomorrow which is subjec to a 15% Spax handling charge and then placing the order for the RSX kit. I have spoken with Spax regarding the handling charge and hoping to get the waived due to the circumstances Ii am returning the kit. The guy I am dealing with at Venon is Simon.

If its the full coilover kit then it is a very good price. http://www.spaxdirect.com/index.php?cPath=350_840_841

Yes, RSX118 for £566 + £10 delivery. Now replacing the Venom bookmark with a DC Performance bookmark.

http://www.dcperformance.co.uk/uprated/spax-rsx-coilovers/porsche/944.html Ive got to the bottom of the confusion, I think. Andy, without wishing to add to your confusion and that of others, had you considered the 1986> RSX104 kit (which, I suspect is what you thought that you were buying initially) for £449 delivered?

May not be of interest but I have possibly acquired a set of kw v3s and as such may be selling my gaz golds. They are about 2 years old and have done circa 2,000 miles. Would be looking for £450
