Thanks Olli. It would appear that they are suitable for an '88 Turbo then, and that the fitment list is misleading (again).

ORIGINAL: os951 Simon, it does not make any difference if your car is a 1987 or never series two car, a 944, S2 or Turbo. All of these uses sealed type strut. If you want to use Spax insert, your strut needs to be modified as i have done. In my picture strut is from a 968, which use similar strut as S2. 968/S2 style strut uses small diameter spring. 1982-86 strut cannot be use directly on later cars because spindle attachment hole distance is different compared to later one. You can use modified 944 struts directly under 951 and also under S2, but you must use 951 springs, S2 springs won't fit.
So do these need cutting off to remove damper or do they unscrew?

Little bit difficult to tell from that angle. Check out the cap. If it is similar to the one seen in the picture, you can open it. If not, then cutting is required. There must be notches for spanner.

Suitable spanner

Oli, there are no notches for the spanner, so sealed units they are! Thanks for all your help saved me a lot more wasted time

Thanks Simon, I will call them and see what they have to say Re. Handling charge / ordering the RSX. Are you going to get a set? Can we be absolutely sure they will fit???

Im confident that the RSX118 kit will fit my Turbo, yes. Im seriously considering buying them, although Id have been happier if the promotion had continued into the new year.

It is confusing because of the number of varieties Porsche used, My 86 oval dash car had alloy wishbones with (I think!) early struts / offsets. My 1990 Turbo has the 968 dia springs (haven't checked the cab yet I assume it will have the same as it is later. The MO30 turbos had conical springs. I think all the pre ABS cars had the struts that could be renewed with inserts, (though on my pre ABS lux I replaced the whole strut as the originals were in poor condition and the tops didn't look replaceable - the later type definitely didn't fit though, the width of the hub mounting is different, as was the hole spacing. I believe the dimensions on the post ABS cars mean they can all be interchanged but you have to have the right size spring platforms / springs. I think the confusion with the aftermarket suppliers comes from the fact you could have alloy armed cars with the early dimensions and replaceable inserts and there is no outward change for the post ABS cars with the later dimensions. You might assume, wrongly! that the changes occurred with the dashboard/alloy arms or with the later style front end. Tony

No, ABS have nothing to do with it. It's true that ABS caused changed of ET but there are '87 & '88 models without ABS and sealed type struts. My '88 951 and my son's '87 951 came originally without ABS and both of them had sealed type struts. Last model year which had possibility to renew struts with inserts was 1986.

Yes, sorry, the introduction of ABS (end of 86?) changed the offset which changed the hubs and strut type (to sealed) regardless of whether the car actually had ABS or not - thanks for the clarification!

Venom are not confident that they will fit my car and are not happy to supply them, so rang DP and they are not sure if they will fit and are going to get back to me! Venom, said they have had a few issues with different Spax kits not fitting and are going to be taking this up with them.

Richy Salmons has this kit on his 968, I believe (RSX118). *looks in mirror* Richy Salmons Richy Salmons Richy Salmons

Coincidentally, I also spoke to Dan at DC performance today about the RSX118. I will be ordering mine just before the 31st though.

DC Performance delivered the RSX kit this morning via Fedex, impressed with their communications and prompt delivery. I am now a happy bunny!
