Andy, Perhaps you could get the club/Paul to assist if you are having no luck with the company involved. I wouldn't accept anything less than a full refund looking at what they sent you. Tell them they have the whole 944 forum watching and I'm sure they will take some positive action. Edd
 
Id be looking at claiming from my credit card provider for the cost of the work being completed to a satisfactory standard, or if a debit card was used or the cost was under the CCAs threshold, Id be starting a chargeback. edited to make sense!
 
Well after many phone calls, emails etc. all carried out in a calm manner the original proposal of a refund whilst agreed was not for the full amount, understandable as some work had been carried out, after speaking with the paint shop technician I have decided to return the calipers so as the whole job can be undertaken properly. I have had a quarter of the invoice refunded already and I have agreed that once I have received the calipers back and not before, I will then pay the outstanding balance less my costs for packaging / courier. Once I have them back and I can make an honest review I will let you know the company involved, if they are returned in a condition as befitting the service offered I will be happy, lets face we are all human mistakes happen and it all depends on how it is dealt with, and to fair to them at present it would be unfair to give them bad press without the chance to put the job right.
 
Seems a fair and reasonable approach, although I would have pushed for a reduction in the overall cost based on "inconvenience" to you as a goodwill gesture...
 
I has a similar experience about 5yrs ago when I had my 911 calipers refurbished by a company called Bigg Red. The company "worked on them" and had them back to me 3 days later. The web site stated the calipers would be fully stripped, new casting seals, piston seals, new nipples & coated in the finish I'd chosen. What they returned was my calipers that had been shotblasted, the shot was still visible behind all the bolts they hadn't removed and the finish was even more sparce than the pics you posted and had rust starting to appear through the very thin coating. I had a similar experience to the O/P having to send them back & explain that the finish was unsatisfactory & not carried out to the standard they advertised. One week later & a refund of my courier charges I had the calipers back in the condition expected & some pathetic apology about a new member of staff who wasn't fully experienced and he had carried out the work.

When you have done dozens of different kind of calipers you can tell easily what went wrong. Looks like your calipers were badly cleaned and wrong kind of paint was applied on bad surface. When you do a standable low cost job to "iron" calipers the easiest way is the following: - Over night citric acid bath - Rinse with hot water and brush all the nasty stuff off them - Dry them properly - Mask the areas you don't want to be painted - Paint with high temp proof caliper paint When you want better surface: - Over night citric acid bath - Rinse with hot water and brush all nasty stuff off them - Dry properly - Media blast caliper parts - Start to sand them with angle grinder until caliper is fairly smooth - Continue sand caliper parts by hand, continue until part surface is smooth - Clean all parts with acetone - Have parts powder coated - Wax and polish parts The latter method is what is usually do with iron calipers. Somtimes some extra tools are needed for caliper job. For example in his case "Porsche" text was grinded off. That was done mainly because the rear caliper had painted "Porsche" texts and we wanted to have similar look for the front ones as well

Depends of caliper type, steel or aluminium. Also condition of calipers effect to the final cost. If customer wants raised Porsche text to be machined, the price is higher. I usually charge 200-400€ of four calipers (parts not included)
 
ORIGINAL: allybee Been following this thread with interest. I managed to bag a set of RSXs at the knock down price, after seeing your post regarding new fixings I too went to my OPC and ordered some. I looked at PET first and decided I'd go for washers as well, that was a mistake, looking at the invoice they were £5 each... I'm planning on fitting mine tomorrow.
allybee, how have you got on with the fitting of your RSX kit.
 
Thought I would have her back on the ground today with a test drive, had a small leak from rear near side Caliper on the brake pipe connection after an attempt to stop the weep twice I have now managed to strip the thread on the nut [:mad:][:mad:]
 
Bloody annoying Edd [:mad:] I thought I would be out in her this afternoon, still I got the new caliper parts fitted so just the 1 pipe to go. Surprised at how bent and buckled the old springs and pad retainer pins were
