I am semi seriously tempted to buy a Mk2 in the real world

You might be closer to buying one than you think Fen, there is a NZ company that restores and uprates Mk2`s is with modern running gear and ergonomics.
Beacham, started in the 80`s/90`s they are seriously quick, seriously expensive and seriously well put together. They supply E-types too, original or `modernised`

I've read reviews of their cars, and to be honest always fancied one. What I missed however is that they are in NZ.

I'm not sure it needs the navigation etc. but I do like the modern engine in the old body idea. I also quite like the Zetec 105E conversion that is around.
