The Ultimate Insurance Thread??

There are so many threads about insurance costs that I thought it might be a good idea to have a standard template covering all the requirements, so that a better comparison can be made between quotes. If you think I have forgotten any important elements, please let me know and I'll add them to the template.

These are the details of my insurance. Once we get a decent number of replies, I'll probably move this thread to the FAQ section as a permanent record.

Insurance Company: Norwich Onion via Academy
Premium: 500 - includes 90 days european cover and courtesy car
Excess (Accident and theft): 500
Notes: Current insurer (Frizzells) wanted 1323 for same !! Lowest quote was SwiftCover (388), but they wouldn't protect my ncb due to 1 at fault accident, had 1000 excess and non european cover. Interestingly Direct line was 100 more than priviledge ("You don't have to be Porsche to be Priviledge"), who they own. Also, Priviledge's on-line system quoted me 80 more for my Carrera (2) than a Carrera 4 !!

Worth adding Broker and Insurer/Underwriter as seperate in the template:

e.g. Like Diesel130, I'm with Academy but my insurer is NIG and his is Norwich Union (or Norwich Onion as he calls them [;)])

Sorry, can't contribute as I have one of those mid-engine Porsche

Edit: Thanks Kish & Diesel. I've also added breakdown cover.

Just found this thread and thought I ought to mention something which may well interest those who have an imported i.e.non UK spec car. I have recently found out that mine is not a C16 and as such doesn't have a Thatcham Cat 1 alarm system and as such is NOT covered for theft by my insurer, Norwich Union.

My broker reckons that none of the main stream insurers cover cars without this alarm system, which has been standard in the UK for the last 10 years, for theft. Some of them also won't cover you for damage to your own car too, even if you were fully comp.

Just thought I'd mention it.

PS. Yes, I'm suing the supplying dealer! [:)]
