The Ultimate Insurance Thread??

Hi

My details -
Car: 996 C2, 2000
Renewal Date: 16/06/07
Age: 40
Postcode: RG7
Occupation: Tech Director
No Claims Bonus: 9+ years
Protected: Yes
Where Kept Overnight: Driveway
Cover: Comp
Drivers: Me + wife
Licence held/time: 23 years
Useage: SD&P & Class 1 business use
Mileage limitation: 17,000
Legal Protection: Yes
Accidents: 1 at fault 03, 1 flood 03 - both within protected ncb though
Convictions: No
Tracker required: Not required
Insurance Company: Hastings Direct
Premium: 650
Excess (Accident and theft): 500

Notes and warning: Admiral quoted £1100, Swiftcover was close to £650 but wouldn't do protected NCB.

*** However, as I found out last week when my car went into Porsche for some minor repairs, Hastings would not cover a Porsche as a courtesy car. After several phone calls it turns out that Hastings policy (which is not written down anywhere in their literature) is to only cover courtesy cars under £20,000 in value. I'm not sure how they can ever cover a courtesy car for porsche, bmw, mercedes, jaguar etc... The garages apparently now no longer provide insurance for their loan cars - so being insured with Hastings means I am unable to get my car serviced easily! I am trying to find out what happens in the event of an accident, since my chosen repair garage would of course be Porsche - who would then provide the loan car! ***

If I change insurance - has anyone tested their insurance company's courtesy car policy?

Interesting point. I've previously owned various expensivish cars (>£30k) and none of my previous insurance companies (Tesco, RSA, NU) have complained about a merc or bm as a courtesy car.

A bit obscure but does anyone know of an insurance company that will insure my 2003 c4s for laid up cover. It's the subject of a court case but is in my garage and i should insure it, against fire only would suit me.
Thanks.

Thanks Mercurial, just called them.....£525 for laid up cover in my garage, fire and theft!! Only cost £900 for me and the wife fully comp to use it on the road, never mind. Thanks anyway.

I have to renew on the 23rd of this month.

35yrs old Female
Full NCB protected
3pts Sp30 3 years ago: 78mph on M180[]
Garaged
DN9 postcode
5000 miles a year no business use

Currently with AON, renewal has come through at £770 with the 1 mile garaging clause.
Tesco £684,
Morethan - refused.
Norwich Union Direct £947.99
, Priveledge £712.

Interestingly Priviledge had my registration plate as a Carrera 4 Convertible and a premium quote of £594, why is a C2 more to insure than a C4 convertible????

I have been tring to get a quote from Performance insurance direct but no reponse to my online enquiry & when I rang was told someone will ring me back and they haven't

Hello, this is my second year insuring this car. Its worth considering GAP insurance when buying from a dealer/indie to protect the value paid against the market value the insurer will want to pay in the event of a claim, there's more of this on the "Insurance Renewals Thread" on this forum.
