The Ultimate Insurance Thread??

I expect it comes down to claims history. My guess would be that Turbos tend to be owned more as second cars and simply get used less than Carreras. Hence there are less claims, and insurers think they are a better risk.

Update on my Post 51 : renewal time came around, Saga wanted £245 but Classic Line / Brit Insurance came in with identical cover BUT XS £100 not £500!! Premium £212. Result!!
Classic Line 01455 639000

It's official I'm in heaven and staying there! Thanks to everyone who posts on this site as the information when buying the car was invaluable....[:D]

My insurance on my M3 would not touch a 911.
I tried everyone and everyone over 1500 so I picked up a form from opc.
Porsche insurance services, wow, very good cant remember the total but it was excellent.
Came through the porsche in porsche headed paper, even has free cover if you race it at the porsche racing track.
Everyone try it, you will be shocked.

Notes: Renewal from Saga came in at £658 but they matched Performance quote at £449, when I rang performance to check policy details they then offered me £432. Saga offered £1000 personal possessions cover as opposed to £200 and emergency cover for others to drive car to get me home but Performance offered key cover, on balance I felt Performance policy equal to Saga and they bent over backwards to try to get the business. No other companies came close to this.

Hi all, I have had great difficulty finding insurance now that i have admitted to having had my UK licence since Early 2008, although i have driven here and had accidents and fines without any major issues before that time since 2000 (1998 if my MC is to be included). I have held a licence since 1992 from Norway, which is my home country. My premium has basically shot up, even though I have full no claims on one car and a few on another.

Now, Why is that? My licence is recognised as an international licence and on par with EU rules etc..

Any suggestions/tips are welcome as I have had to drop the mileage and I dare not think how much a Turbo will cost me..

Gareth - you should consider putting your wife on the policy, as it often reduces the premium. You don't need to tell her of course!

previous post 68

Renewal Nov 2010 with ClassicLine (KGM Modern Classic) £422 with a very good guaranteed valuation figure.... obtained from PCGB & valid for 2 years
that's £32 cheaper than last year with the wife having a bump last xmas in my every day commute!

£250 excess with no voluntary loaded

limited to 5k miles, european cover but no track days

even tho' I live 20 miles north of stevenage, still come under the lottery postcode SG....

Strangely, I did read an article the other day saying some insurers were quoting cheaper if your car was parked on road as opposed to driveway as would be thieves wouldn't know where you lived.......

Definately need to shop around!

Paul (kasspa)

Hi Can someone recommend insurance companies cheaper than comparison websites? Wife is 31 with 6 years no claims no points and Im going to be 29. I ran a quick quote on moneysupermarket with me as a named drive and it came up with around £1100 on a 2002 C4s.
