The Ultimate Insurance Thread??

Not a 996, but it might help someone.

Car: 2007 Cayman S
Renewal Date: 21/11/12
Age: 60 (don't say anything!)
Postcode: SL6
Occupation: Company Director
No Claims Bonus: 12+ years
Protected: Yes
Where Kept Overnight: In Garage
Cover: Fully Comprehensive
Drivers: Self & Wife
Licence held/time: 43 years
Useage: SDP & Business Class A
Mileage limitation: 12000
Legal Protection: Yes
European Cover: Yes
Guaranteed Courtesy Car: No
Breakdown Cover: No
Drive other cars (3rd Party): Yes
Accidents: 1 minor at-fault 04/09
Convictions: 1 x SP30 08/09
Tracker required: No
Insurance Company/Underwriter: Liverpool Victoria
Premium: £362.50
Excess (Accident and theft): £500
Notes: Renewal with Aviva came in at £590, so I "Compared the Meerkat" and got virtually identical cover with LV for £230 less. LV seem to be offering keen prices at the moment.

I have checked the policy documents and can't find that anywhere, but I'll get out my fine-toothed comb tonight. I always keep the car in the garage overnight anyway. I think most companies would take a dim view of insuring the car on the basis of it being garaged, and then leaving it on the driveway all night.

Agreed, but there might well be an occasion you're going out again after 10pm or perhaps storing something in your garage overnight, in which case, leaving it on your forecourt, it wouldn't be insured. But by leaving on your neighbours' forecourt, it would be covered! [8|]

It's worth checking. I always garage mine, but decided to pay the little extra (about £25 from memory) for forecourt cover just to be on the safe side. [:)]

Regards,

Clive.

Richard,

Did you manage to check your policy?

I'd be interested to hear if that stipulation is still being included.

Regards,

Clive.

I read every word of all the LV policy documents, and couldn't find any mention of it.

I am familiar with the clause, as the policy I have for the 3.2 includes it. Coincidentally, the renewal for that came through on Friday. Down from £409 last year to £330 this year - same insurer, same cover. Go figure.

For the first time in my driving history, the road tax on my main car is more than the insurance. []

this is copied info from a post but thought it would be beneficial here too!

+1 for CL, 3rd year I've been with them....

£24 cheaper than last year ( now £385) & have added commuting for the occassional drive to work [:)]

age 58
licence held 41 years
postcode sg19
garaged

5k miles, agreed valuation, 30 day fully comp Euro cover, breakdown cover included as standard (although I'm with AA), £250 excess

myself & wife who has 2 minor claims in last 3 years......

PS - make sure you advise them of PCGB membership

Best I got from 'nationals' was £315 self only, with an additional £500 compulsory excess, NO commuting or the all important agreed valuation which is due for reassessment.

Just had my renewal through from ClassicLine, £9 increase from last year to £394, so thought I'd do a little comparison.....

Especially seeing others on here paying +/- around the £200 pound mark & given that I do live in 'rural' Bedfordshire!!

Well online quotes I got were astonishing:
Lancaster £678.63
Heritage £774.22 with a combined excess of £850

Admiral were the closest at £367 but then I wouldn't get Agreed Valuation that lasts 2 years......

So, no brainer then, CL for me for 4th consecutive year :)

Comprehensive.
Age 58
Garaged, 5k miles, Euro Cover, Breakdown, AV, Legal Protection, Self & Spouse who has 2 minor claims in 3 years, Protected NCB, SDP + commuting, £250 excess, (this rises to 10% value of vehicle if advised of trackday use)
