TiAL Wastegate group buy

Hurry up Slim, have you got it in yet [8D]

I double checked the instructions that Tim sent with the WG last night and sure enough it categorically states that the bottom of the TiAL connects to the x-over pipe coming from the engine, and the side port connects to the dump tube that leads out down the exhaust pipe [:)]

That fecking bracket on the torque tube was a pain. Totally removed it. Its was still a tight fit. Shame the side port doesnt go straight up as there is a bit of a bend in the pipe to the accuboost.

Well out for a drive and weeeeee 25psi... Fast!! quick stop and turned the accuboost down 2 turns and was getting a nice 16psi. I havent got time tonight or tomorrow so will be Tuesday before i can have a more extensive play.

BBW while the car was up i took the oppertunity to change the gearbox oil.

It was VERY didrty, and a tiny tiny. hint of mayo!!

Popped in Halfordsa semi gear oil. 2 litres. I would suggest to anyone to do this for peice of mind.

Any chance you could get a picture of the wastegate fitted? Also - could anybody send me a scan / digital picture of the instructions?

What are you feelings in the unit being supported by the exhaust alone? (i.e. no bracket)? Also - what parts were actually supplied in the kit? (i.e. wastegate itself, fittings etc.)

Forgot to take a camera with me (fitted it at a friends house) The tial basically sticks up towards where the support bracket on the torque tube is. By the time i got it fitted, i had had enought so couldnt be bothered with looking at fabricating a support bracket. There are no actual instructions just a picture showning the way it should be connected.

I really had to dial down the accuboost, as the wastegate doesnt bleed any boost, the accuboost doesnt have to be up as high. The location of the side port is a bit of a pain.

All you get is the wastegate. It seems to be sealed up ok, and the car is now a rocket in 3rd and 4th gear. Hope to get it on the rollers next week...

Hi Paul,

Had a look at the picture - thanks. It appears that SFR make up the flanges to fit to the Tial unit. I am talking to Tial directly - but it appears they only supply without the flanges.

Looking forward to hearing what you all get on the power runs in June.

Well i am on the dyno again on Monday, so should get a good power run with boost and A/F all plotted onto it.

Just slightly concerned about the fuel now i am holding boost all the way.
 
Andrew you should have some installation instructions in your mailbox now.

There is another guy on Rennlist called Steven Wistuba that manufactuer these adaptors. His username is Myswiss and his website is http://www.europartsetc.com/

He is based in Canada and has been undercutting SFR. They have a bit of history together in that SFR claim Myswiss has simply copied their design [:-]. He claims his version is better and is marginally easier to fit. Maybe another avenue for you to investigate?

The lack of brakets is interesting, I think the angle (leaning back)puts the weight over the other bracket on the exhaust pipe side so less of a problem than it might otherwise be. However both the pipe to my wastegate and now the pipe from my wastegate has cracked. They cracked where the pipe and flange join together. When I had the first one welded the welder commented that it was bad design due to the different expansion rates and the way/type of join. As it had lasted 13 years and 14 on the second pipe its not that bad!. However they cracked with the standard wastegate bracketry in place. It will be interesting to see how others hold up with the Tial. My pipe should be welded today then I can finally get it in the car.

Fitted my Tial (and my 968 M030 arb's) yesterday, I found if you rotate the torque tube clamp and bend it a bit you can use the bracket on the exhaust to bolt straight through one of the holes on the clamp (where the old wastegate support bracket used to mount. I am bleeding some boost at high rpm's but I felt this would be the case unless both ports are used. However I think I have a leak in my intercooler which may also be affecting things.

Leak was down to rubber coupling between the hard pipe and the intercooler - its much quicker now its fixed [:D][:D][:D]'s are back!

Tony, your mission should you choose to accept it, is to watch my boost gauge pegged at 15psi for 2 hours on the autoroute down to Le Mans net week [:D]

Will probably have one as well though car feels very quick since the boost leak was fixed (even though I wound back the reliaboost 5 turns). Also I believe the 18psi chips expect a little bit of boost bleed at the top end of the rev range.

I think you are correct there Tony, i think Danno mapped it for about 14-15psi at full chat. But that would still be about 12:1 A/F so you have a bit to play with till it starts going lean, so unless you are planning on sitting in 5th at 160 all the way to Jail then should be fine. [:D]

Are you going to mount it under the bonnet or within reach when driving? If the latter have you worked out a route for the pipes yet?

I spent several happy hours today pondering the ramifications of mounting a manual boost controller in the car and still haven't come to a conclusion. My favourite solution so far is to run the pipes through the side of the fuse box and down through an unused relay slot but I still open to allternatives. I look forward to your comments.
 
I'm planning on putting it under the bonnet on the rear bulkhead just next to the clutch reservoir. If I put it in the car I'll probably only fiddle with it [8D]

I did wonder wether the length of pipe might be an issue as well with the fuse box idea. wasted thoughts now!
