Track Days

I think our best options are Bedford, Donnington or Silverstone, bearing in mind we also need to account for those coming from the SW as well as the S and N. I will try and get the higher noise limits but those days tend to be the full price track days too, which isn't what I was intending on. Is 105db enough? One of the sessioned days may be a good bet, allows three grades of experience (Novice, Intermediate and Advanced) on track on the same day (at different times), works out at about 6 x 15/20 minute sessions. Dates and track days haven't really been published for 2013 yet, when they are it will be easier to see what is available and when. Markk and edh, it would be great to have a couple of experienced track drivers present to offer support and show us how its done[;)]. Edd

Hmmm - not sure you should bracket me with a championship winning race driver...[;)]

My New Year and Spring is going to be very busy plus if plans work out my car will likely be off the road for a while in that period for some fettling. That said if the dates do work out then I would certainly be very interested !

If the noise thing pans out ok,and i can swing the day off,i would deffo give lifts around in my red road car, would be great fun[:)] Ed-I was at Donnington for the day with RMA on a noisy one,the week of the Silverstone race, was a good laugh but my suspension could do with cranking up a bit but that would ruin it for road use, same settings didnt seem so bad around Oulton the other day. Graham-3.2 sounds like fun!Maybe on the day of Rutland we could have a tyre kick?If its not too cold!!!!I think my car is not too loud but Paz came with me to Oulton and he said he deffo wouldnt drive to Stuttgart(its a goal of ours one day!) in the red car because his ears would not take the pounding[:D]

Dont want to take my cab on track, my coupe is currently not road legal - mainly as I don't want to tax/insure it so I do trailer it to track days (sometimes I even bring the keys) it is very much a road car though. If I can use the coupe and the dates work out I'm in! Tony (though if its too late in the year I might just have started work on it!)

It doesn't have to be a road car only day, its just that they tend to be a bit more novice friendly, if we go for an all out track day with open pit lanes and upper noise limits then the cost is also going to climb too, I want this to remain as accessible to first time track drivers as possible, so we may have to compromise somewhere. 18 names so far in this thread is impressive! I will do my best to accommodate all of you. Edd

keeping it accessible is a good plan. there are good points about sessioned and open pit lane days. on the latter they tend to get much quieter later in the day, which gives people plenty of room to explore. they can be a bit mad early on, but I usually avoid the first 30-40 mins. Bedford will be fine for standard cars but will probably exclude non-standard turbos on noise grounds. donington prices are all over the place. javelin seem to be reasonably cheap. I've done a few days with them and you don't get too many really fast cars on their days. their own 'trakzone' days used to be a bit of a free for all so probably best avoided. Silverstone is reasonably priced during the winter months, but you need to be doing one of the circuit configurations that includes the pits otherwise you will freeze! we used to do a 944 meet at a goldtrack evening but they only ran one last year. when we have a date it's also worth posting this on the titanic mail list and tipec.

Goldtrack - Sun 10 Feb - £259, Silverstone own day Sun 24th Feb - £249, both GP circuit

Thanks for the Javelin heads up Ed, just looking at their website they have The Bedford Autodrome GT circuit open pit lane track day on Monday 25th March for £129 or Donnington Park open pit lane on Friday 29th March for £199, both have instruction available too (invaluable IMO). The Bedford are showing 101db static limit and Donnington Park 98bd static limit. For most on here I don't see that being an issue. They don't have any listings for Silverstone so I gather don't cover that circuit. Looking at other sites Silverstone is also about £199 for an open pit lane full day. Going by that I think the Bedford circuit offers the best value, perhaps not as iconic as the other two but relatively safe and challenging enough for most. I'm sure there will be more dates that come up over the next couple months. Edd

ORIGINAL: colin944 Sounds like a great idea. But I would only attend if you moved the track to somewhere within 4-5 hrs drive ie Cheshire or upper midlands..I think if you did that you would get a good turn out of cars from up this end of the country. However I do realise that while a 3-5 hour drive is acceptable for the Scots and Northen boys, most of the southern and London types tend to be unwilling to travel. just saying
ORIGINAL: Eldavo Sounds good, Oulton/Croft/Donnington would be best for me but will travel if necessary.
I'll certainly be up for that but my thinking is along the same lines as the quotes !!! [;)]

We don't have many options at the moment but what do people think about the 25th March at Bedford Autodrome, £129 for the full day, open pit lane (means you can come and go on track as you please) via Javelin? Its a Monday and would require most taking a day off work, myself included, will be well worth it though! Let me know. Edd

Bedford Autodrome 25th March 2013 Open pit lane, all day £129 Sign up below 1. Copperman 2. Andy Watson 3. Highwayman 4. I'm in! Any idea which circuit this will be on? Phil

Yes, but they run several circuits [;)]. GT is the full track, and then I think they have North, West, South and possibly East. Phil
