Turnover

just to keep the thread going and confirm previous expression of interest.....
I was thinking in terms of 964RS and 993RS and as a 964RS owner I would want to exchange drives with other owners ( either 964RS or 993RS ) ....meaning of course that they can drive mine ! I'm not going to get into insurance []
To mitigate risk of unhappy outcome, I think an airport is best. Although Oulton Park is my local track and it is usually OK for noisy days , there is too much to hit , and for next 6 months it will be slippy.Sorry Vic.
I do 101 db static at 4500 and get in to Bedford , standard C2 exhaust as recommended by the eminent Mr Spear , so Bedford should suit some of us.

Not sure who does Bruntingthorpe trackdays , but that could suit too.

So , we have to find an organised event at suitable venue then as many people as poss commit to booking on it . Thats how the Oulton Park RS days came about.
It will be less hard on tyres and maybe more fun over next few months , however having nothing to hit and plenty of runoff is a 'must' if we don't want to tempt fate.

Simon - I have no problems with noise limits in my car as it runs completely std exhaust. Had it on a dyno recently and all looked good from where I was standing. If you can "borrow" a silencer, why not try it and see what difference it makes on a dyno as exhaust swap is relatively easy to do and may save you much more on a new exhaust.

Fighting talk from these power assisted 993 boys, lets get it on!!

I would agree with you Oldtimer....somewhere with nothing to hit and plenty of run off like an airport sounds good. I reckon we need somewhere where we can explore the limits of our cars without disasterous effect. That's what this day is supposed to be about.

Might even get the car out for this one...[&:]

Ed Moore, who runs Motorsport Events is a good guy who I have come across on many occasions. One of my friends races a BMW CSL with him and Ed has been his instructor on trackdays for many years.

I first came across Ed when he was working for Jonathon Palmer. As part of the day we got to drive a Merc SLK on a handling track. As we both used to race FF1600 we got chatting. We discussed traction control and in mid corner, at about 80mph and witha little oposite lock on, he asked if I would like to see what would happen with the traction control off. Thinking he would turn it off for the next run I said yes and he imediately turned it off. Jonathon Palmer announced at the end of the day i would get a special prize for the most piroettes they had ever seen. I think they recorded 7 complete spins as we also hit the wet grass etc.

Ed is an official nutter but I am sure he could organise a great day. I will try to contact him on Monday to get some idea of costs and maybe we can get a magazine to sponsor the day so as not to hurt our pockets. Anybody know a suitable journalist.

C2 silencer -thirty quid.........105-107db to 100-102db.....

No difference in power above 4200rpm...fact.

Blow yer dosh on a H & S -best of luck, and get them to guarantee the decibels......

Mel

This sounds like I need to do a rolling road session. While I won't say you aren't correct, because it seems that you have the practical experience, it does fly in the face of basic tuning principals which leaves me very puzzled.

As for H&S, I haven't asked if they will guarantee the decibels. However, I have known many cars with exactly this problem (too noisy) and H&S have never failed to come up with a solution. In addition, in every car I have seen their work tested, for the db level the cars have produced more power than other system.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that you can buy a Supertrapp and just stick it in the end of the exhaust pipe.
Add and remove plates as you see fit. Again they reckon no loss of power.

dont use supertraps, unless you want to knacker your engine, they are not for short exaust systems, and not very healthy for normal engines.
They cause to much back pressure and heat in the engine, one went through the windscreen of a bmw at the brit car 24 hr pre practice, another bmw blew its engine with supertraps,as they had to get the noise down to 101 for the 24hr.
They will also cause power loss big time.
