tyres

I need new tyres for my S2. I'm on a bit of a tight budget, but love driving the car I wouldn't buy cheaper tyres if they aren't as good. Can anyone recommend good tyres?

Im running Eagle F1s at the moment but when I need to replace them I will probably go for Toyo Proxes. I have them on my Rover and cant find fault with them. Have also heard good reports from other owners.

My S2 has been on S-02 (how appropriate ...) for 2 years and they have been absolutely excellent in all kinds of weather including snow and ice.
They are so good I don't think I will go for another type of tyre at the next tyre swap.

You'll be lucky to find S 02 next time. I got a pair to replace my rears in February and they were a nightmare in snow. I guess any 265 tyre would be though!

I've always been a Continental Contisports fan, but I heard very good reports from many Porsche owners about Kuhmo Ecsta 712 tyres so I had some fitted a month ago. After 2500 miles in all weathers and a few laps on the Nurburgring I am very pleased with them. They have a cool tread pattern too [8D]

Best bit is they were only £75 each fully fitted, and this was for 245/45 ZR 16 that the Turbo has on the rear. The narrower S2 tyres should be a little cheaper

My rears lasted approx 20K, I have Dunlop sp9000 changed from S-02's and prefer the dunlops. they may not be quite as grippy as the SO2's but they are much more predictable when they break away. Just off to buy some more, The bridgstones went faster but did some track work. If I was buying four I would consider the Kumho or some toyo's

Try using the search function. There has been a few posts on these tyres in the past and from memory the reports are pretty favorable but you can read for yourself. My car had these on the original teledials but I replaced the wheels after a few weeks so I can't really comment.

Been using these tyres for the last year and they seem £ versus performance = excellent.
Great in the dry, seem to be reasonable wear rate, although I have only done 4,500 to 5,000 on them with no real major wear and OK in the wet.
I am sure if you spend more you get what you pay for but they seem to me a great tyre.
cheers

Thanks chaps
I'm running Toyo Proxes T1S on my Rover[:D] at the moment and am very impressed with them, just wondered what the new T1Rs are like.

Just had a full set of FK-452 fitted a couple of weeks ago - £270 all in, - I swear by them. Have them on the 325i too. As a good all-round road tyre they good value and the (new) 452 is well-regarded in some serious performance circles.

They appear to be the fashionable tyre of choice at the moment... of course I've been wearing them years now!!!

They are a superb tyre and when you consider how little they cost it makes them an INCREDIBLE tyre. I have and do use them and their predecessor the FK451 on as many of the cars I have owned as possible:

M3,M5, 330D, 120D, E200 Estate, 968's and 944S2.

They also make a reasonable wet Trackday tyre...

I had a set on my old Cavalier SRI. Very grippy, nice soft rubber. Didn't last long on that car though.

Thanks for that, it all seems very positive at the moment. What sort of life would you expect to get with them? I would be doing virtually all road work with the car but like to have a little fun (Don't we all?)

Falkens - seconded, great tyre, good on track (wet or dry) too.

So impressed for the price that I`ve put them on my old Landcruiser (obviously a different tyre but still with good grip and wear compared to BFG which cost some 30% more)

Thanks a lot, I'm going to check out my local dealer this morning.

See a guidance file Here. Only for Toyo but it indicates that width of tyre will both those rim sizes.

But.... you're unlikely to solve your problem. A 10" wide rim is 254mm wide, and you have a 265mm wide tyre. On a new rim, the tyre width is unlikely to change significantly.

Wouldn't you be better with a slightly less heavily offset wheel?

Yeah I forgot to mention that, although the tyre size will of course be the same the offset of this new rim is ET52 (against my ET47) so I'll have 5mm more clearance to the arch
