Could have been worse - melted-down condoms, perhaps?
Quite possibly. They might have sourced them here http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=condom, where Amazon sell both new and used ones [:'(]

P6000s were perfect for my old SAAB 9000 Griffin, sitting at Motorway speeds for up to 9 hours a day and 30k miles a year.

Unfortunately my new 951 has them on the front.....

Not as bad as the Maxxes on the back though[]

What's the preferred Tyre de Jour on the forum?

Dunlop Sports Maxxs? Oh I don't know, I have them all round on my other car and I really rate them, but different car, different sizes etc, etc.

Anyway, back on topic, the key is to make sure that you get the same brand all round, as 944s seem quite fussy in this respect, and make sure that you get the correct sizes. I note that your new steed has non original wheels, so it would be worth a check to see that these are genuine Porsche wheels or replicas.

Popular choices to look for are - Falken FK452s, Goodyear Eagles and Toyo Proxes.

I'm not sure what the correct sizes are for them alas, since I only have D90s, but somebody will be along I am sure.

Just fitted some Toyos tr888 to my 16 inch standard wheels (forged clubsports),the adhesion is fantastic and i can really nail it now without being worried its going to chuck me in a ditch, traction is fantastic, yet they are still refined to drive on the road. The rubber feels very soft to the touch so i am betting they won't last as long as the previous set which were Pirelli Asimetricos and well past their best....

I had Toyo T1 S's on the rear of my Turbo and got approx 13 to 14,000 miles from them before I recently changed them. They are pretty soft, so I was pleased with the wear rate. Just changed to T1 R's.

I've got Bridgestone SO2s all round (The Porsche approved version N...whatever). I think it's the first time I've ever had tyres which I felt were contributing significantly to the handling of a car. They warm up and start to work really nicely. I'd certainly buy more if I can.Not

Thanks, they are not Dunlops, they are branded as Maxxis and they are not good!
I put Toyo Proxes on my last 2 SAABs and really liked them, so will perhaps go for them or the Falkens that I have heard recommended before.
I believe they are original Porsche wheels, but will check

I am running Dunlop Sport Fast Response on my 15 in teledials as I couldnt get 452's or T1-R's in the correct size (195/65/15), and they are very good (see tyretest.com). However I have just acquired a set of D90's so will be going with the Falkens or Toyos as soon as the virtually brand new P6000's they came with wear out (judging by reports that could be a loooong time [&o] ) .

I don't think you'll ever wear the p6000s out they are so hard. A bit like the Pilots that came on my Caterham when it was new. 30K and the reasr were beginning to show a bit of wear but not much. They were however dreadful on a light car - too hard!
I'd just bite the bullet and change them anyway - its more fun.

OK... at this rate I should start putting a wanted ad out for part worn P6000s... I can wear them to nothing in no time thundering up and down the M3 and M4! See, I'd be doing you all a favour taking them off you hands and saving you the disposal cost, then you can all put some more decent rubber on your cars!

After a rather embaressing incident on a roundabout yesterday[]
I have decided to change the rear tyres. I have ordered some Falkens as many people seem to rate the.

The chap in the tyre place was concerned that my insurance may be invalidated by not fitting Porsche approved Tyres however, I found this a bit odd, especially as the car is currently fitted with Die-Young Slipmasters on the rear and I was never asked about my boots when taking the insurance out.

Anyone else come across this please?

Ahhh, Porsche Type-N approved (or somesuch.)

Given that Type-N approval didn't exist when your car was made, the tyre fitter was clearly talking out of his RS.

Besides, it's none of his business who you are insured with and whether the tyres, petrol, brake pads or coolant you use for your car are Porsche-approved or not. Even if his point was relevant I'd be politely telling him to mind his own effing business and get on with fitting the tyres you are paying good money for, unless he would rather you took your Visa card (and business) along to his competitor down the road ...

Wow!
What a difference having the 2 new rears and the front P6000s balanced makes!

Before we had joined the main road my 6 year old son commented at how much smoother it feels, my Wife might even start to like it....er scratch that, it'll never happen on principle.

Sounds like a good result - glad to hear it. Well-balanced wheels make a HUGE difference (I think I am more sensitive than most to out-of-balance wheels as even the slightest wobble annoys me immensely!)

All the best with getting the Missis to like it. I find it to be a big 'ol uphill struggle as well (my missis that is,not yours! [:)] )

Depends on the wheels.

My Fuchs are 195/65/15 on the front and 215/60/15 on the rear where my Teledials are 195/65/15 all round. That's on a 1983 944.

My '83's manual shows various sizes. They show the same size all around and the largest size listed is 215/60x15 on the widest rims (7")
Would guess it would be the same for the '84 cars too, with the changes due the following year.
