tyres

Not sure on the correct sizes but I recall someone mentioning the difference in size to help induce understeer in the car at the limit, rather than oversteer as the former is easier to control

Can you post pics, because your car for its year should have 15" cookie cutters all round on 195 tyres. from what you're saying soulds like its got aftermarket wheels. They're not to wide though I've got 993 cups on mine running 205 at the front and 245 at the rear, but being an 88 the offset is different to your car

Sorry, hadn't noticed the 16 inch rear rims on the OP - that sounds odd , I've never seen a 944 with different sized rims.
As Paul says should have 15" Cookies or 16" Fuchs (standard or option) so guessing wheels are not standard!
Pics would be a good now
Mike

I didn't spot the 16" rear rim either. Perhaps a 15" teledial on the front and 16" on the rear, could also be fuchs with a larger diameter 911 rim on the rear.

Sorry thats my fault the rear tyres are 15 inch also and i think the wheels are called fuchs ill post a pic or two could someone tell me how to post pics thanks lads .
Andy

If they look like these then they're Fuchs.

To post an image you can click on the 'Click here to upload!' link when you make a post and point it at your file although the file size limits are quite small. Another method is to host your pics elsewhere like on photobucket then use the 'direct link' for the image that gives you, click on the image icon (last one on the right above the text input) and paste the link in the box that pops up.

They are actually the Cookie Cutters made by ATS, standard on our cars.
I love mine, far nicer in my view than the later standard telephone dials.
But I'd love the Fuchs more!

My car with the cookies and the black one with the dials.

Nothing wrong there, standard wheels for the year of the car, cookie cutters as they are affectionately known.

Most sports cars that are rear wheel drive regularly have fatter wheels at the rear for grip, you car IRC would have come with the same tyres all round and would have been 195's

Car should run fine on that setup though, rears are about maxed out for the rims though I think

A9 I have to agree with you there, strange thing is I like the 15" teledials I had on the 924S but I just don't like the 16" version, that may sound odd but they just look different a not in a nice way to me, thats why I went with cups instead of keeping it standard

215/60/15s are the standard sizes. 195s were more commonly seen as an option on series two cars. Very early series one cars came with 185/70/15s.

I'm sure they came on 15's in '86.

The rears you have don't sound like a std size though (although you can get them - Camskill have one (!) offering HERE )

Just to echo the above really, 215/60/15 is the right size (195/65/15 would work too). I'd recommend camskill too - cheap and good service.

If you use a calculator like this one:

http://www.club80-90syncro.co.uk/Syncro_website/TechnicalPages/TRC%20calculator.htm

You get some idea of what will happen - the car's gearing will be affected by a fair amount (the speedo will read incorrectly too), plus the ride will be harder, like as not. The car will be lower to the ground, so there will be a fair change in its dynamics overall (I'd imagine it would be a bit undergeared?).

Also, you would DEFINITELY want to tell your insurers / clear it with them first, if such a size isn't the OEM spec; they will use any material fact to get out of a claim that they can!

Blackcircles list a load of options in your size. Khumos, Falkens, Toyos and Continentals have all been recommended here.

on 7j rims you can use 195/65/15 as an alternative, its listed in the manual.

lower profile will affect ride, speedo readings and make your car look like a roller skate. [:D] if you really want a lower profile you need bigger rims. 944 designed to use up to 16", lots put 17" or even 18" on but expect problems with loose fillings/spinal injuries.
