tyres

I run Khumo KH15 215/60x15

Using the lower aspect ratio tyres will alter gearing (better acceleration, lower top end but worse fuel consumption and higher revs/noiser at cruising speeds) and dynamics as has been said but also they wont fill the wheelarchs properly. Mine had 215/55x15 when I got it, fronts looked almost ok, rears lost!

Wouldn't want to see 215/45x15 on a 944

That's great as far as it goes but it makes no mention of 15" wheels for 944s which is the original equipment on most early cars (cookies) despite saying from '82 on.
Usual Porsche looks good works well but not the full story!
Ignores practical considerations.

I suppose in that instance you would use the approved 15" tyres listed for the 924.

However it is rather worrying that one of them is the almost universally hated Pirelli P6000.

Maybe the main criteria was longlife and lack of grip for years of sideways fun :ROFLMAO:

I still think it's fantastic that a manufacturer would dig out several test cars from their collection going back to the 1960's and then test loads of modern tyres on them. What other car maker does that, nearly fifty years after the car is out of production? [:)]

Yes, terrible tyres, if anyone has any, I'll force myself to take them off your hands and wear them out!

I was going to say that I have covered best part of 100k miles on them wthout any problems... then just remembered I fell off the road recently on them:-(

Got some 195/65 R15 Continental PremiumContact 2s on my Teledials. However I can't comment on what they're like as I'm yet to get the thing out on the road but they were about £70 a corner from my local tyre place.

Not quite the same size but I have just run off a set of V-rated PremiumContact 2 in 205/55 16 on my BMW 3 series and they have been very good indeed.

195/65 R15 91W is an approved size for the 7x15 wheel on front engined Porsches. The current Porsche approved (N rated) tyres are Pirelli P6000 2 (N1) and Dunlop SP Sport FastResponse (N0). I see that Camskill are listing the Pirelli and also a Goodyear Excellence in N0 rating.

At only £51.30 inc VAT the Goodyear looks like a very attractive price.

I'd vote for the Goodyears...

I have Dunlop SP Sport Fast Responses on my daily driver Golf in 55 profile and the sidewall flex is most unpleasant, I shudder to think what they'd be like in 65 profile. P6000s... errr.... no, thanks; I like staying on the tarmac.

FWIW my S2 was on Bridgestone S-02 when I got it, and I'm very happy with them. Comfortable enough for normal road use, grippy enough for the occasional track days, our annual blast up Prescott hillclimb, or this year's session at Curborough!! . Can't comment on size....they're 16" of course, and width/section is standard as per the handbook. They seem to be wearing well so far.

I run the 195/65/15 V-Rated ContiPriemiumContact 2s on my 944 and have been very pleased after 10k.

Quiet, plenty of grip especially in the wet and around 1kg lighter (per corner) than the worn 215/60s I replaced.

Edited to add 452's NLA!, Bridgestone S02's and Continental SC2 are premium N rated tyres and Porsche approved tyres for S2. Uniroyal Rainsport 2's probably fall between the budget and premium tyres.

Conti Contact 3's on the 220 no probs and Toyo T1R's on the 220 which grip and seem to wear well, also had Falkens 452 ?and they were also good, i know a guy who swears by Nankang AS1's

You could always try advan sport v103 - only problem is they're only available in 225/50 16" - I run these all round on the Turbo and seems to give a nice balance

I changed to 17"s for the much bigger choice of tyres.

Running Michelin PS3s and they're very good indeed.

Another Michelin user here. The grip from the car is unreal :D. More than I thought a 944 was capable of.

I have made a number of people tighten their grip on the door handle when heading for bends (either I am that scary a driver or it really does hold the speed very well in the bends ;).

I'm running Avon ZV5s on mine, but only because that was what was on the car when I bought it so when I've changed pairs of tyres I've always matched the other axle.

Grip seems OK and is nice and progressive when it does let go in the wet. Unfortunately I don't have another point of reference so all I can say is that they're acceptable for my car but I have no idea if there's anything better out there.
