tyres

I run Toyo T1R 16inch tyres on my red car and have done a few track days,not bad for an alrounder tyre.
 
Bridgestone SO2s - very happy in general but will only last so long on the track. The don't deal with a lot of heat well.

i know a guy who swears by Nankang AS1's

Does he drive a 944 or another car?

I'm considering trying the Nankang NS-1 on the turbo as I'm a bit fed up replacing the rears every 10k miles at S-02 cost.
 
The nankings will probably only last that long too though.
I had those on a BoraTdi. I couldn't fault them for the price and they were far from the worst tyre i've ever had.
 
Agreed. There are far worse tyres out there (15 year old Michelins anyone that are out of shape (on another car I had; the PO put on 4 Michelins from unused spare tyres. Unsurprisingly when I put on some fresh Toyo CF1s the difference was night and day).

Ive had the FK452 Falkens on my car, and found them a good road tyre, BUT,, ive heard that they've just been superceeded with the new 453, and apparently its not a patch on the 452...[:mad:][:mad:][:'(][:'(]
 
I have 452s (16") on the 944 and 453s (18") on my daily driver 3 series. I can't fault either tyre.

Does that mean I can't get Falkens for the 944 again? Is ther anything similar they do in 16"?
 
Yes 452 discontinued in about 95% of sizes. They do the ZE912, not as high performance, but more durable. New 453's available in 17' sizes.

What is the preference tyre for those running the 225/50 and 245/45 on the 7j and 9j 16inch D90's these days?

toyo ti-r are pretty good.

I was thinking about trying the 453's on my boxster - needs new tyres all round. will check out a few reviews....

I have had them on a few years now - however I have never been overly taken on the look of the sidewall on the rears. Seems a bit stretched for my liking. I would prefer something with a more upright/square sidewall (if that is the word) where the rubber actually sits a touch proud of the rim/lip iyswim? From memory the conti's I had before had a squarer profile. Maybe it is just me though...

 
The cars origianlly came on 185/70/15s, which were quickly superceded by 195/65/15s with 215/60/15s offered as a frequently taken option. Id fit 4x195s if the choice is better, but dont mix them because itll be crap and they shouldnt have mismatched tyres (and that applies to Turbos, too!).
 
In the past I have said not, based on my 2.7l which has 195s, but I now think that this was actually caused by the very track focussed geo. This was set up with big wheels and then had the originals refitted before I bought it. Casting ymyind back further I had a 1987 which I bought from an OPC and theyd fited new 195s all round and it drove beautifully, so I have revised my opinion.
 
With my car being a 86 and having the earlier suspension , will the 195,s on cookie cutters fill the arches ok, dont want them to look undertyred and lost.

Well after much thought and cider, i went for pirelli p1 cinturato,s, i got 4 205/60/15,s for £280. I now have to work out what nuts to use, alloy ones seem expensive and i,m a bit unsure they will take day to day punishment. . . anyone help me here. . . AGAIN. . . [:D],

I just replaced my alloy nuts after 25 years and over 200,000 miles. They were starting to look a bit flakey and scruffy but have lasted well.

I bought a set of 20 from Porschapart at £58. They look the mutts nuts and I no longer worry about my wheels coming loose
