what did you do to your 944 today

Chas your car looks fantastic. I prefer the back end without the porsche decal. In fact I don't even have a 944 on the back of mine. The only bit that says Porsche on the outside is the badge on the nose.

Many thanks chaps :). The rear decal I left off after discussing the script logo in another thread (http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=802096&mpage=1&key=󃵙). I figured it could always be refitted at a later date if I was not pleased with the look. So far I am unsure; initially I was quite missing the look of it without truth be told. MarkK, the Alpine iPod interface is not a bad one at all. It is more like an extension of the iPod itself IMO. As a bonus, this box also changes 4s and 4Ss in addition to the 5s (with an adaptor fitted), which should save on more wires cluttering things :).

ORIGINAL: CarreraRSR I trimmed about 1-2cm off my new OEM sunroof inner and outer seal. Had to do the same with the new OEM hatch seal. Torrential rain yesterday and this after noon and its still dry inside. So it should be for £160 the pair!!
Thanks. I see that Max at Frazerpart recommends trimming too - I thought that wasn't the done thing? Perhaps I'll give it a wee trim in that case...

I fitted a hatch seal without trimming - needs a lot of work on the corners to get enough material in there

I was told the seal should be dimensionally stable over time, so it shouldn't shrink at all, and can be carefully trimmed once fitted...

ORIGINAL: robdimond Chas, those number plates look a bit familiar!!! [:D]
Rob, I forgot to thank you for those. Not only for the source of the plates but the design. It was pretty much what I wanted and for me is a small detail in aiding the overall appearance of the car :).

Took my rear beak off:

So I could get access to change these:

And it will make things a bit easier when it comes to repairing this:

No problem at all mate! I'm chuffed that you liked the design enough to stick it on your pride and joy... I spent ages messing about with scans of logos to get them right. I'm fairly certain this was the original look for my car... I still have the original AFN rear plate which I copied and this photo of my car when it was the PCGB press car (which is keeping me going through the rust adventure... would be a terrible shame to scrap the cover girl):

M3: How long did it take you to drop the rear beam... any tips? Looks like time to get the angle grinder on those sills... hope to see lots of photos!

Probably took around 6 hours in total although i was pottering along and contemplating things as i went. I took the calipers and discs off and also the dust plates because i didn't want to damage them in the drop. I also spent a long time making all the rusty nut heads hexagonal shaped before attempting to get a socket onto them. Sacrificed a 6mm chisel in the process but it was worth it to get a good grip on the heads. The big M12 bolts at the front were hard work. I snipped though the brake hoses as i will be replacing them anyway. Screw a screw into the cut ends to prevent brake fluid dribbling all over the floor. It took a bit of prising to get the front mounts to slide out of the body mounting position. I supported the trailing arms and positioned the jack a few centimetres beneath the centre of the beam to catch it when it eventually popped free. I'm going to start picking away at the rear quarter and sill next week. My strategy is to try to preserve as much of the shape as possible while I'm working on it so that i have good reference points for the recreation of the missing bits. Cheers M3

Doesn't look too bad body wise Monkey.Keep at it and you'll be done in no time. I removed my new fuel lines as one of the crimps had started to weep. Now I don't trust any of them so going to get them all re done. I have braided hose the full length of the car and it's so easy to get them off as I don't have to drop the beam. They fit between the beam and the body with minimal hassle. My mark 2 version will have dry breaks in them to make maintenance far easier.

This week I also booked the car in for an MOT. As always a pre-MOT check of a brief nature is undertaken by myself. Upon checking things I readjusted the wheel bearings using the Porsche procedure (very little play (if almost none) is now present) in addition to the handbrake which has improved it by quite a margin in comparison to before (again, done using Porsche procedure of adjusting the shoes and then the handbrake cable). And the result? A pass :D.

Went to the Goat at Hertford Heath where they have a car gathering 1st Sunday of each month. First time I've been there and I was quite impressed. Just 10 miles down the road so not sure why it took me so long to find it! Cheers Mick

Realigned my headlamps! Now both flush with the badge panel. Feels good to be wielding spanners again, albeit somewhat tentatively...

That job is a bit like trying to rub your head and pat your stomach at the same time. BTW which of your three vehicles is the fastest ? I'm going for the sprinter.

Somewhat to my surprise, the headlamp adjustment was pretty straightforward...they'll probably jam solid the next time I go to use them now I've said that! [;)] As you rightly assume - there's nothing faster on a motorway than a white Merc Sprinter...

"While I was in there" fitting the 968 brake cooling scoops and ducts I removed a bit more rubber from the suspension and fitted these 9products monoball caster mounts:

Quite a difference versus the original 944 mounts:

had a top end rebuild but while it was all in bits had the camcover powder coated pillarbox red ,too much? http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b21/chrismanchr/E062B049-6300-448E-8410-AC61DFB3C7AC.jpg

I quite like the look of the red cam cover Chris :). I guess that your engine is running far better than it did previously (Your last thread about the S2 did not seem to end well). Eldavo, I am assuming those mounts have roller bearings in the rear? It would be interesting to compare these to the 944 and 968 mounts in use. Granted that for racing the 9Products items are the ultimate mounts to have :). It was quite an interesting website to venture on.

thanks chase it had a broken valve spring ,corrosion in the head/block mating surface that meant coolant was getting into cylinder no4 so the head was reconditioned with new guides ,the chain and bottom slipper were well well past there best ,but I had the big end bearings changed the originals looked like new lol ,the sump was absolutly full of gunge ,the waterpump(very expensive waterpump lol as my mechainc put it lol) was replaced as the old one sounded like a roller skate ,new belts and rollers etc ,oil/water cooler taken apart cleaned and resealed the head had been reconditioned by a leading porsche specailist about 6 years ago and to be honest they'd done a crap job lots of oil leaks in the head those endcaps on the bulkhead end that plug into the end camshaft oil gallary(meant for 928's) had been all but destroyed and leaking oil and of course oil pressure probably making the tappets niosey lots has been done all done by a backstreet garage mechanic but he put his heart and soul into it and done a great job
