what did you do to your 944 today

ORIGINAL: Eldavo Went to change the damper adaptor that connects to my AN fuel line and saw that the damper was loose. The bracket had cracked previously and been bodge welded up, a hard day on track and it had started to come apart again. Luckily it was just the bracket edge and it hadn't damaged the rail itself. Sanded down a spare rail I had, a coat of primer, gloss black and then 3 coats of petrol resistant lacquer. Decided I wasn't going to replace the plastic rail cover so wrapped the injector harness in red self-amalgamating silicon tape.

Replaced both sunroof gears last week using Clarkes garage info-lubricated everything with aerosol gear grease-had to adjust microswitch bracket position afterwards to get tight sunroof closure but now runs quite smoothly. Most time seemed to be spent using a mirror to check adjustment of cam/microswitch positions-almost need an ear trumpet to hear the switch clicks with background noise from passing traffic-perhaps I'm going slightly deaf! All parts supplied efficiently with member discount by Chester OPC-Steve Physick now back in spares & very pleasant to deal with-I also ordered some spare black screw caps,2 seat belt trims for the side panels,a set of the plastic tap in rivets to repair a spare sunroof(which will be for sale).

I went along to a local car show and spotted a local 944 owner!:

Seeing another German coupe seemed a fitting moment to grab another pic :):

How much are the tap in rivets? Just so you no if you ever need to replace the drive cable for the sunroof they are NLA from the OPC.

Today I covered my A pillars with some linen coloured leather because some numpty when they replaced the screen damaged the originals. Also covered the cubby box lid with some matching leather.

Dave re route the braided pipe for your gauge it will rub and wear the alloy boost pipe eventually...................you know i am right ! Regards windscreen change always remove A Pillar trims as they always get snigged by the windscreen fitters cheese wire, warned a friend about it and guess what he can now not get hold of marine blue A Pillar trims, OPC do not even do them.

Scott, rivets-part no 477.871.053-(called -clips-by Porsche)-were £ 0.48 discounted to £0.40 ea-posted free-the gears were £7.58 net for the 2. Thankfully, the plastic gears are clearly designed to fail rather than the drive cable but thanks for the info

Was that the TopGaiters ones from eBay? I took delivery of a centre console cover this morning, I'd seen the A-pillar trims they did but couldn't work out how the screws went in??? As for a leather armrest, I thought about it but I got a bit carried away . . .

ORIGINAL: VITESSE Dave-do you have a system of mirrors so that you can read the gauge whilst on the move?[:)]
No, I have a little man under there who taps on the firewall if there's a problem.

In preparation for a track day at Donnington on Monday,I've just finished fitting new rear Pagid pads (from ECP,£27.20 set inc VAT)-recent MOT showed that the existing ones were not acting on the full area of the discs, although it passed (just). This problem seems to be associated with the orientation of the piston-& as with those on our grey 924S which had it's 1st new rear pads earlier in the year ( after 23yrs of ownership),when I removed the old pads, the pistons had the "D" end shape aligned vertically -ie as you would read a letter "D" in print-which to me lets the pad rock about the step. In both cases ,I have rotated the pistons so that the upright of the "D" is horizontal across the pad in the line of travel. The Haynes manual particularly for the 924 shows this alignement in a photo but I can find no specific reference anywhere even in Clarkes Garage--can anyone confirm this is correct?

Frenchy if marine blue is dark blue then I have a pair.

No I got the leather off the guy who trimmed my seats and did them myself. Originally I wanted to do away with the screw holes and I was going to stick them on but the pair I bought have been bent when removed so I had to resort to screws. Sunroof panel next!

Replace my wiper linkage rod again. Hopefully this one lasts longer than 2 years. Also resealed the scuttle cover which might mean less water landing on the offending wiper linkage rod! See how we go this time. I suppose £7 every 2 years is cheap enough to keep the wipers going, they really help in the wet! [:D] Also had my car in for a geo set up/check as car was sliding about a lot in the wet. Turns out my 3 year old Gaz Gold shockers were all seized and had no travel at all! I knew the adjusters were seized but never imagined for one minute the whole units were seized also! Anyway the guy got them freed off and corrected the geo, only one wheel was out, and has set the shocks quite soft just now to get them moving more. I can firm it up again in a few weeks and the shocks should be ok. Once the adjusters were freed off the shocks began to work again. So anybody running these units, the ones that get coated in rust after about 5 or 6 days on the car from new that is [:(], make sure you don't let your adjusters seize. Regular clicking and WD40 application is required! And for anybody thinking of buying them, don't! Not impressed at all by any of my experience with them. Stuart

Are your adjusters on the body of your shocks? My Spax have the adjuster on the top of tube shock so these are under the bonnet but the rears have the adjusters on the body of the shock, i'm adjusting my handbrake in a little while so I will give them a squirt [;)]

Stuart, Thanks for road-testing the Gaz Golds. Suitably warned, I have my replaced my surprisingly knackered (once-rebuilt already) M030s with Koni Sport new units front and rear. Great work by Jeff Moore's Garage Exeter to a great standard. Check out the difference in damping performance..... [link=http://youtu.be/gxoMnfjA9nM]YouTube video[/link] Might explain why the car was a bit shonky/scary at times! Also replaced a lot of bushes/mounts/links while in there and finished with full geometry check. Very happy with the resultant transformation.
