what did you do to your 944 today

thanks Paul....I'm in a bit of a hurry (aren't we all) so no time for refurb, hopefully my son being in the trade will get it at a fair price .

cheers

Pete

No worries Pete. If the pump is silly money I think it was waylander that knew someone who rebuilds the pumps.

Paul.

evening chaps

well I'm one step closer to being able to make Rutland, thanks to my wonderful son the car is no longer loosing coolant. He called me just after lunch time to tell me to take the car to his place as he had sorted a new waterpump, needless to say I was up and gone in minutes..:) It was clear once we got started that yes I had been loosing some coolant from the head which as mentioned is now fixed but by far the majority was due to the waterpump. I just need to get the bodywork sorted on the n/s wing and Rutland will be on , my son said he'd get the paintwork sorted for me so looking good.....anyway just for a laugh here's what we found once the under trays had been removed.....not exactly hard to spot....lol

thanks Waylander...I won't get the old one rebuilt yet, it should be many years before it's needed by which time seals fitted now may have deteriorated...

cheers

Started putting it back together today, of late I have not had a lot of time to work on it. One thing that has always annoyed my is how awkward it is to fit the J boot mainly due the stupid vacuum crossover pipe welded at 90 deg onto the coolant pipe bracket. Why Porsche felt the need to do this I don't know but I took a hacksaw to it, removed and filed it smooth and now, now its soooo easy to remove and refit the J boot.

Adjusted N/S front wheel bearing and removed caliper to check pads moving freely. Check. On to other side, wheel bearing spot on, tried to remove caliper, 10mm cap head bolt stripped (M030 calipers, radial mount). Argh!! Called OPC today and they list a 12mm one which was odd. Maybe the part has been superseded. Anyway 4 new bolts only cost a tenner and then spent a fiver on an 11mm hex socket for ramming into the stripped bolt! Wish me luck!

Radiator drained and flushed out then new coolant hoses and new radiator fitted repeated runs and coolant top up's to prevent air blockages,,,hopefully. Headlights: uprated H4 bulbs to Nightbreaker plus and beams adjusted (along with spots and fogs aims adjusted) plus new oil cooler gasket correctly aligned OPRV as my first attempt pushed all the engine oil out from the oil filter!!

Jet washed down the engine bay to remove the engine oil so just needs a decent run,,to burn off the last of the engine oil,,, then hopefully sorted oil leak wise but you just never know!

Got hold of a replacement hazard switch in excellent used condition today for my S2 dashboard so I can now refit the strip above the glove box along with a repaired digital clock. It cost £15 and Porsche want nearly £60 for a new one!

Earlier, I was sent a damaged switch in terrible condition by a breaker via eBay so need to return that. Because of that and as I needed the switch pronto I decided to risk a short 10 mile drive to see if PH Sports Cars at Shardlow could help. Was not expecting a successful outcome due to the chaotic situation I've encountered there during my previous visits over the last 2 years but was delighted to find a MUCH improved situation. Paul was present (a real rarity!) and sounding chipper and he seems to have a good team with him now. Since my last visit some order has been given to the Porsche parts section and I was invited to rummage through boxes and shelves of parts in the area loosely demarcated as 'Porsche' where I spent 2 happy hours looking for a needle in haystack but I did eventually find myself a great hazard switch so I was chuffed.

In the same big box of switches I found 2 dirty but excellent condition 944 dash cigarette lighters with none of the usual fading to the decal on the button. I took these upstairs to save them getting damaged in the box and asked Paul if it was OK to mention these on the forum as I know a few people have been asking about where to find a good lighter as they're currently NLA from Porsche and you only ever see horrible faded ones on eBay. Paul said it was OK so if anyone wants one of them give them a call on 01332799298 for more info and a price. You won't get them for a couple of quid though as they know very well these are NLA! I spotted so many other parts treasures knocking about and it was worth getting filthy for.

Good to hear Paul's getting a bit more sorted. He's always been good to me over the years (well apart from stuff like returning phone calls..)

He has a big stash of parts, even now ( I think he got rid of loads of stuff a few years ago)

Door handles off. MK2 Golf handles bodged on for the time being. Handles polished. Noice. Going back on next week when all the bits arrive from Porsche. I shamelessly broke an arm which needs to come from the motherland. I'm far too impatient for these fiddly jobs...

Finally put it all back together. Over the winter its had new fans, deleted the aircon (so moved the alternator), new belts, rebuilt the power steering pump and new fluids. Tomorrow it will be booked in for mot and then its off for the paint work to be corrected.

Fitted my "spare" bonnet with the vents mounted - it needs a bit of tinkering with to square it up better:

However, I can confirm that the vents work as there is significant heat haze when I stop at the lights and after parking up you can feel the heat from them. When moving they'll be even more efficient - ready for the 2016 track day season :)

They're growing on me from an aesthetic standpoint, I need my badge panel repainting to match better too. But, like near all the modifications I've made; it's a replacement part with the original safely stored away.

Since February, my S2 has had rather alot done...

Recon head, with cams gasket etc. ( cam chain snapped).....so basically top end refresh..

New clutch.

Konis all round.

M030 roll bars all round.

New exhaust manifold on 1 + 4.

M1144 Pads and Sebro discs.

Added someTwist alloys 7J and 9J with NS2R 180 treadware.

To follow is a full geo and new windscreen, plus some brake bleeding. A gearbox oil change wouldnt hurt either...
