what did you do to your 944 today

I've also upgraded the master cylinder to the 740i one a lot of people use in the states. Got to finish bleeding it all but pretty happy with how it all looks at least [:)]

Darryl - I'm interested in the BWM master cylinder swap - does this reduce pedal travel, and is it a simple like-for-like job?

Thanks

Mick

Hi Mick,

It is supposed to reduce the pedal travel quite a bit yeah. The 2 studs on the booster is a straight bolt up but I've had to make 3 brake lines - The 2 that go through the firewall and the one that goes to the Passenger side wheel well (RHD Car) You also need to T-piece the two front lines as there is one less port on the MC.

I've not had chance to fully try it out yet so I can't say much from experience. I will post up once I have though.

Went down or the body shop my S2 is going to look very nice indeed, possibly back this weekend as it was getting painted tonight, then I will be putting it back together.

Wheels then sent off for refurb, I will clean and sort the brake calipers whilst the wheels are away being done.

Some interior jobs to do then it will be good to roll [;)]

After 3 1/2 years of ownership I finally sorted the indicator cancel out. It had stopped working "randomly" not long after I had the car and was on my to do list since then.

I, erm, well, you see, it's funny really, haha, looking back, easy mistake, you know how it is, welllllllll - the steering wheel boss was on upside down

That's random, Kongsodoken!

Had a day off today so I changed my PAS fluid, lubed the door locks, fitted dissy cap and rotor and changed the spark plugs.

Oh, and I looked at the fuel filter and thought I couldn't be bothered with that, I'll get my local Porsche specialist to do that when they have it in for the geometry.

Also removed an extremely rotten horn ready for its replacement

Finally received a registration number for the Turbo from DVLA, fitted a pair of plates on it and drove it for the first time. Happy days [:)]

Today I did something that I've been meaning to do for a long time and that's to fit a steam vent system to the head, I saw no need to buy a kit like the one that Lindsey do, so instead I've used a 1/8th BSP tapered male union that takes 8mm ID hose. It's a straight forward job to drill/tap the hole which according to Lindsey can be done with the head in situ if using a right angled drill, since I had the head off for a repair anyway it would have been rude not to fit this vent....

and for added interest a picture of the block awaiting the refit of it's head.....

I also took advantage of looking for an exhaust leak from the manifold at No.2 port, on close inspection I discovered a small lip where we had fitted a heli coil due to a stripped thread, it was very small but was most certainly the cause of the blowing exhaust when cold..all filed flat so should now seal correctly.

Hope to get her back together over the weekend

cheers

Pete

Hi Paul

bores are looking beautiful....:), she's only done around 7k so still brand new so to speak.....I plan to fit the 80lb injectors soon to make use of those extra V-MAF+ features that have been sitting there dormant....should be fun...

regards

Pete

Good to hear Serdi did a proper job with the Alusil cylinders Pete. Did you manage to find out if the Vitesse injectors have to use resistors ?

My son is convinced that the 55's are low impedence...rather than iirc the 4.7ohms that they should be....i will get him to test this when he's next over if i remember to ask him to bring his gear that is....if he's right and the 55's are low impedence I may try a set of 80's that my other son has in his cossie...he needs bigger anyway so could be a cheap upgrade...I'll let you know when i know for sure what's what.

well a mixed bag of fortune regarding the car this weekend....got it all back together yesterday, running like a dream but it still looked like it had a leak. Started off big when first starting the car and moving it to level ground but seemed to dissipate after a short while. Since the car had been standing for a few weeks and it had been raining earlier in the day we suspected (hoped) that this was just from water that had been trapped in the under-trays, the bottom of the car is pretty well covered for better airflow and since this would have been covered in water/oil when removing the head it was a reasonable diagnosis. The head itself which is what had been leaking seemed dry so I took it out for a drive, about 100 miles with a couple of stops. On the second stop I checked the water level.....very bad, I had lost all or the water from the header tank...I still had a leak..lol. Topped up with water (I had thankfully taken a bottle of water with me for just this scenario) and drove back home. This morning now that daylight was back I checked the car, my son also popped over to help, he can get places I can't. The head still looked dry (thank god) and so we checked all of the hoses, one was wet but this was a red herring as we eventually traced the leak back to the water pump, most annoying of all was this had clearly been leaking for some time, so yes the head had been loosing water and needed the 4" crack welding but the majority of water lost had been via the pump which would have been far easier to change when the car was in pieces..... oh well....my son will get a price for a new pump tomorrow, it would be best to do this job on his ramp at work but not sure if he can fit it in before his weeks holiday which starts Saturday.......so here I am hoping he finds a way.....fingers crossed....:) Pete

no Paul...I needed to cut costs as the rebuild price was getting a little out of hand...I rebuilt the oil pump which rarely fail anyway and checked the bearings on the water pump...that seemed ok...in hind sight I should have just bitten the bullet and bought a new pump...oh well....if I had thought about it properly I'd have remembered that the water pump had been on the car for more than 15 years, all of which on a modified engine.

oh well...live and learn as they say....:)

Pete
