what did you do to your 944 today

Thinking of the positives, by the time I factor in what I havent spent in Germany and the money I’ll get back from the travel insurance, that’s my pistons paid for :)

Hope that's for 'IASA' pistons David......best wishes for your full recovery sir...:)

Parked at the golf course on Sunday for my team match and on pressing the window up button, said button disappears into the door card! Luckily had a screwdriver so was able to remove the cowling and put up the window. Have repaired with superglue for the time being which will hopefully do the trick for the foreseeable!

Hoping it’s a stuck ring - will try oil and freeing it off, compression on cylinder 4 is 10psi.

Won’t be able to look at it until next week anyway.
there is more than one ring, 10 PSI does not sound good at all, they would all need to be stuck for it to be that low

yes it does sound unlikely, it's just that there doesn't appear to be any cause for anything more serious & it's gone from running fine to being in this state just by sitting around.

because of the circumstances...ie it was running fine before lay up I'd be tempted to take it for a blast and get it properly warmed up...if anything is stuck due to layup this may clear it...cheaper than taking it all apart...my car had a scored bore after the iridium plug fiasco which had zero effect on it.

Fitted new steering shaft & fuel filter to the red track car this weekend ready for R13 Curborough sprint day this coming Thursday.Steering much lighter ( manual),no vibrations & hesitancy under acceleration seems to have gone ( but only a short test drive).

Dismantled driver's door to investigate why the window rattles when it's not fully up.

Discovered that the furry lining for the window guide in the rear of the doro had slid out of the channel into the bottom of the door and seemed to have been there for a fair old while, given the amount of crud on it.

Fished it out, cleaned it up (washing up liquid and a scrubbing brush), dried it out and glued it back into the channel. Downside was that I needed to remove the window entirely to gain enough access to do the job. Still, it's all back together now and much nicer to drive with the window down on a hot day!

Been quite 944 active of late after months of not very much doing. The wheel and caliper refurb was the catalyst. Of late I've done the AC compressor and alternator. Both drive belts. Re-gassed AC which works again. New crank pulley. Gearbox cooler o ring. Gearbox cooler repair and refill box. Replace a CV gator, replace a missing CV boot fastener. Oil and filter change. New plugs, cap and arm. Fix aluminium undertray. New electric window switch. Secure dash vent panel to cure a rattle. New rear wiper. Fix connection issue to MAF. Quite a list!

Today it got a decent wash and clean and pictures taken for new insurance valuation as old one is expiring. Was previously £25k. Not sure if it needs to go up? Probably happy enough to keep value where it is.

Collected it from Michael Millar in West Yorks who fitted Bilstein B6s for me, and generally sorted it for my trip to Le Mans Classic is a few weeks.

Bilsteins well worth the money/faff!

Tomorrow the car will have it's first MOT under the new rules...we shall see how she gets on. I have gone through the basics today and given her a good clean, may have one spotlight light out...difficult to see in the sun as the sidelights(day lights) are much brighter and both bulbs are behind the same lens, a cracked one at that. Anyway, MOT is at 11am, the testing station is less than 1/2 mile from my sons garage so i'll be going there first, he can check the bulb. While there we need to check the gearbox oil level as it's making a lot of noise, gear change is fine, just noise on decelerating in gear..Could be trans, could be TT bearing...we'll try to find out which tomorrow. I'm hoping (praying) it's low on oil (there is a sign of an oil leak) as these days I don't have the funds to fix major things...I may be getting close to passing her on for someone else to treasure if it does look like she needs the transmission or TT rebuilding....we shall see...

A picture of the old girl, still looking as good as they get for a daily driver and better mechanically (except trans,,possibly?)...than any garage queen..:)

A torque tube rebuild wouldn't cost that much surely. Sounds to me like you're talking yourself into selling it Pete?

Pete, No no no, find the cash somewhere if it needs something and I am sure your lad will sort it for you, I am sure he will not want to see Dad's P & JOY be taken from him, don't be so negative, a bit of gearbox whine adds character !

Hi guys

Update on MOT...car flew through with no advisories...lot's of nice comments as per usual...I asked if there was signs of anything amiss underneath...comment I got was..'you got to be kidding, she's mint' well I wouldn't go that far but she is in very good condition. Regarding the trans noise...no sign of it during the 12 mile round trip for the MOT....which is strange as it was quite pronounced when I last drove her on the open road? It could be that when hot the oil isn't doing it's job?..just in case my son has ordered some good oil instead of using the standard stuff that he keeps in the garage, hopefully get that for next week and then take her for a good run...A point to note is that I still haven't refitted the rear seat as I haven't got around to getting the new sunroof seal yet so this would of course make the sound worse.

I do find it difficult getting in and out of the car though, I do need to think seriously about keeping her or not. Looking on the bright side, as the MOT tester reminded me, I only have another 8 MOT's to go through before she's exempt...:)

No point in posting in the 968 section so as it’s a 944S3, road trip to the office, M25 to the M11, M11 to A14, A14 to A509 into the office in Wellingbrough, then the A509 to the A45, A45 to M1 then M1 to M25 home

another 180 faultless miles and a big thumbs up from a fella in A 991 targa, all in all a good day

Good news. Calling a car 'she' or 'her' is a pet hate of mine though. How a lump of metal relates to a woman is lost on me [].

Been putting mine back together today after some bodywork tidy up, my brakes are away getting dipped and coated, back next week and will be rebuilt with new seals, new crossdrilled discs, pads wear sensors etc, oil and coolant change, then mot and back rolling[:D]

It's called the "black pig" think pork !
