what did you do to your 944 today

😁 I can’t take the credit for the card trick I saw someone else use it. Works perfect as long as you remove carefully once Laquire is tacky 👌🏼

Windscreen washers completely failed to work this week😡 -so stripped out all components including opening the Oertliken clips using my heat gun to remove hoses.

I had the T 1 way valve in stock & some other S/H L ones so dunked all including nozzles in a mixture of bleach ,washing up liquid & water overnight whilst awaiting delivery of 2 more S/H heated nozzles from James at Only 9.

Yesterday blew through all valves with compressed air -all cleared & worked perfectly once empty of detritus but still used the new T valve-fitted all back in place using Bullet crimp connectors for the nozzle wires.

Now a happy bunny again as great stream of water on using the wiper stalk. Also cleaned the pickup 1way valve in the washer bottle.

Amazing how the system gradually degrades to useless mainly over the Summer.

Decided to refurbish my alloys today, not the best conditions to do it outside but I did it anyway. The alloys have been gauged and curbed since I bought them and have always bugged me, so today was the day. Got x2 done so happy days! hoping tommorow I will get another done before my nieces birthday party fingers crossed🤞

Deserves its own thread!

About a week ago my son noticed that the fuel return hose was showing signs of breaking up. While I waited for him to drop off some new reinforced fuel hose I naturally kept the car off the road. Anyway, today after my son dropped off the new hose last night, I changed said hose before going out to a model Engineering show which is a yearly pilgrimage for me. Guys, I strongly suggest that you check your fuel lines, this return hose had been replaced by myself in the past, but, when I removed it this morning, it more or less broke up when manipulated by hand.

Coincidently, yet another picture of a destroyed 944 due to failed fuel lines appeared yesterday on one of the Facebook pages, be safe guys and check your fuel lines..

Today I replaced the gear linkage and installed a short shifter from Only944.com. Still got the gear shifter inside to change out (also Only944) but it's amazing what a difference there is already. Previously trying to get a gear was like stirring a bowl of porridge (so much so that I haven't been using the car since picking it up), now you can fine them !

This weekend I managed to melt part of my wiring loom going from front to rear :-(

I was careless starting the car up after an oil change not realising that the tailgate was closed which allowed the green wire to the rear wiper motor to connect to the brown (the wiper motor was currently removed for replacement - the next job). Before this incident I didn't realise the green is permanently live when ignition is on.

Still assessing the extent of the damage, but a number of cables need replaced in the rear up to where the back seat is. The fuse did blow eventually, but being 25A took a while....

Cunning electrics ,being the feed to park the rear wiper-moral of the story-don't leave ANY bare ended wires on a Porsche without some insulation tape.

Glad you didn't have a fire.[&o]

Thanks Vitesse - yes it was probably a close call, especially with the proximity of the fuel tank (which has recently been opened to changeout the sender). Fortunately the loom was wrapped in the proper tape - I've ordered Rayon to use once I've completed the repairs.

Bought some parts.

Just a a couple of small bits and bobs I needed for my car like a clutch, pistons and a block. [:(]

Took the old girl out for a spin today to stretch her legs from the winter slumber. Behaved impeccably on the loaned VEMS ECU from David Chapman. Looking forward to getting mine back from Peep soon :)

Evening chaps

I've been laid up for the last couple of months so no driving the 951, i'm slowly regaining my strength so on the mend now. Today my son popped over and checked the timing belt adjustment for me ( slight tightening of the balance shaft belt required) and we started the old girl up. Fired up straight away which is always nice, gave her a good clean and plan to pop out tomorrow to put some fuel in her as she's on reserve. I have a small short lived squeak from the PS belt which needs sorting and what sounds light a lazy lifter, my son swears that's what it is and it's been like that for a few first starts prior to my lay up so we are going to flush the oil with his stuff (probably 'Forte') to see if it clears. It lasts for no more than 1 or 2 secs and only on first start after sitting for a while so not a big deal but does need my attention. I suspect the oil is seeping out of a single lifter, hopefully a good flush and new oil will sort it.

I still have water ingress which I also need to get sorted, along with the 'no heat' issue. The plan is to finally take the dash out this summer, replace the heating matrix, check over the system (it seems to be working anyway) change the thermo thingies (forgotten name), remove the rear carpet and seats, perhaps take a look at the door cards and cover the dash/center console with the leather kits that I bought some years ago. I also need to change the brakes before the next MOT in IIRC early June. Lot's too do...engine still runs like a dream, zero oil burn unless under high boost and sounds great, only injector sound heard when the bonnet is open. Oh and I still haven't fitted/rerouted the large cone air-filter and ducting that's been sitting in my boot for some months, I hope to be able to give more time to the car this year, she deserves it but has taken second place while I've been building my other main project, some here know what that is...alas it's still my first priority...:)

Hi Pete, sorry you’ve been lates up, hope your ok mate.

youve got a few jobs to do there 😉

i still havnt had the big day in driving mine since the big rebuild as I’m just awaiting the custom radiator which I had made for the second time as dimensions were very slightly out. It’s on its way now.

ive just got back from hospital with a new baby boy so 3 kids now, not sure how long it will be till I can work on the car though now as the wife needs me as she had to have c section but can’t wait to get the 944 turbo in the road.

ive also got a lazy lifter Pete which I saw on the build and regret not sourcing another before building it back together. noise goes after maybe a minute on start up but I’m still on mineral running in oil so I’m hoping when I change or maybe drive the car, it will stay pumped up? As I don’t ever remember it happening before the build but it was laid up for about 3 years before I rebuilt the engine so obviously drained out of that one???

I have a bag full of secondhand lifters, new ones are daft money, a are a lot of 944 parts now, that's Porsche for you and the classic thing ££££££

Hi Dan/Jim

Congrats on number 3 Dan, as a father of 5 I'm only too aware of the workload involved..:) The lifter is more a mind playing annoyance than a problem, I'm always listening for any tell tale signs of an upcoming problem. As I said it's very short lived which is why I asked my son to check the belts for me as I wasn't sure where the noise was coming from. My son said from the beginning that it was a lifter, it's just that I've heard lazy lifters before and they usually take a few minutes to clear whereas mine is gone immediately... very strange, as a possible slack timing belt of something rubbing on one of the belts is now eliminated, my son's diagnosis seems more probable.

Thanks for the heads up on your supply of spare lifters Jim, I'll remember that if I get stuck although to be honest the thought of taking the cam cover off anytime soon doesn't appeal right now, far too many other things to do....:)

cheers

Pete
