Cheers stuart,
to be honest I still feel terrified but she idles so well at the moment and started first time , but it still terrifies me but I’m sure that’s normal.
i will wen I can do a thread of photos only on my build so people can see the build from scratch but it won’t be no way like Petes with great write up as I just havnt the time but I think I will get a load of pics which I took all the way through which could be of interest to someone and show what goes where ect including the turbo rebuild .

Great work and I get the same nervous feeling after carrying out any major work on mine (head rebuild 2 years ago and the clutch very recently). I find myself initially driving round the close then housing estate then local roads as if it breaks it doesn't create too much of a problem................. it's never caused any problems and maybe I should have a bit more faith in my skills but no doubt I'l be doing the same next time.
Be great to see the pics as the engineer in me likes reading through progress people make on their cars.

didnt realise you had a steam vent on yours, I bet it’s as Good if not better than the one you buy
wish now i made my crank scraper becuase they are made for the standard rods and my custom made ones didn’t quite fit that tight around the caps where the small tounge or points were so I ended up grinding them off altogether, but I guess it’s all a learning process as you always do things different or better the second time round through experience!
im finding the more I’m doing now is turning into more and more and more jobs I want to tidy up and one thing is turning into x4 very quickly. So at present I seem to be just plodding along at night after work as and when I can changing parts and tidying wiring and all sorts. I removed the intercooler tonight and cleaned it out with petrol as my turbo before the build was leaking some oil pasted the piston sealing rings so flushed alot of dark oil out of there.
Also wire brushed my disc dust plates and treated with rust remover then sealed them with black under seal spray which also has a rust preventor in it.
Also made a better custom round bracket loop on the shock which holds the goodridge brake hoses better than the gromet as it allows it to moove in and out easier as I realised the famous company which ruined so much of my car had removed them and didn’t put it back in and they were tyed tight against my shocks with a cable tie They were all present and correct before they had it.
oh well jobs are getting done thats the main thing

ill never have another so called specialist go near my car again! Apart from Wayne at chip wizards where it will be going soon as I know all is well with the break In and I can get booked in.
they also broke my earths for the abs and brake sensors which I found today and they left them hanging in mid air so fixed these also managed to solder new ends on them and bolt them on the shock As well as heat shrink some frayed wiring on the other end.
Id like to see where your putting this cone pete so take some photos when you can as it’s something I’m thinking about also to get my cone out of the engine bay.
Also pete what gearbox oil did you use make and grade? As I think my gear change is worse since I changed mine but that could also have been my clutch was on the verge I found out when I stripped it it was right on the rivets, but it seemed automatically worse once I changed my gearbox oil.

renued the rear handbrake shoes with mintex items from frazerpart I rate there service it’s always fast as lightning just how I like it to be. I had a bad/broken lower retaining spring so I decided to make a slightly stronger one from a handbrake shoe kit I picked up for £7.50. (Shown in pics how I made the right shape and works fantastic and allot more heavy duty than original, the tops were fine, cleaned everything up and loobed)
had x3 bad fuel pipe clamps that had virtually rotted away so decided to make some new ones up from thicker gauge alley.
Masked under the car, ready for prepping and sealing of two sHirt csections of fuel line just to protect them before I totally renew them as Soon As I find the right product to replace them. They weren’t that bad the mworst at the rear is replaced with proper plastic ones, but should have been front to back but this is just another annoying thing I’ve found not done as it should have been . Wire brushed them, treated with zink anticorrosion primer, then under body sealer. Forgot to take a photo of the black sealer. And havnt fitted them back up yet with new clamps I made.
started grinding my nearside seals which have always bugged me. Had maybe 7 small bubbles under the stone chip which always looks horrible I. Sunlight. Well most if them weren’t anything but were the shootz used had not stuck to the factory spot welds and it was raising up into a bubble. others at the rear and the very front of the wing, not so good so I became quite heavy handed and as the pictures show is how it’s left as of tonight till I get another chance to carry on. Hopping to get her mot ed possibly next week but one thing is leading to another as I’m in the mood at the minute
( wife isn’t so keen as my list of jobs gets bigger )

nearside peak has had some bubbles of rust that’s bugged me ever since I bought it under the stone chipped seals, so finally got the grinder out.
I took a look in the seal with a bore scooe and its pretty good, so I decided not to weld these bad areas as it was so thin and would probably worp, so I sanded the inside and treated all areas with stop rust product, and also waxed all the insides of the seal which has Atb corossion properties inside. Then made plates as u can see in photos and resin ed the plates on them fiber meshed area then multi layers of filler, prier then stonechip them paint then Laquire.
anything worse in future I would rather weld he whole seal with a new one than do lots of small patch welds becuase of the thin ness of these areas.
Happy woth the results

nice loo floor by the way
Is it the inner sill, outer sill, or both that are structural? Looks OK, but I predict there will be more filler in the future.

I could have welded them in but because the bubbles hadnt got any worse in all 11 years I’ve owned the car I figured i would do it this way and if I need to in future I would rather weld a entire seal in But it was actually very good inside once this small part was cut out.
It’s deffinately rock solid and sanded inside and treated so I don’t see it giving me too much of a problem ,it’s more likely going to give problems elsewhere , it’s 10 times more solid then it was Before.
the loo floor is a customers didn’t realise it was in there!

I've bought some neoprene / butyl tape to fix my lights. So if you need any (as I have obviously ended up with 5m roll) give me a shout.
