what did you do to your 944 today

Well, not today, but a week or so ago, I bought one! Joined the club. I have wanted one since the 80's so very happy. I sent it straight to AMS Porsche to get things like the time belt/rollers, water pump, thermostat and gear box oil all done - although it is a well maintained car, I wanted all this for my own peace of mind:

Looking very nice - welcome!

That picture background looks familiar somehow, I'm sure I've seen it in a classified advert [;)]

Yes, that was from the car and classic's add, I haven't had a chance to get her clean and photos at home yet, but there will be plenty!

The car is very different from my 911s, which is what I wanted, she is a joy and takes me back to my Capri type era :)

Brought some new wheels [:)] Love The deep dish look

not my car - picking them up later this week

They look amazing Ken - can’t wait to see them against the gleaming black paintwork!

I spent today somewhere that plenty of people have suggested I belong - a padded cell!

Although this one was a dyno cell at DanST Engineering in Shipley, I left with 480bhp and 455ft/lbs at 22psi of boost.

Was I tempted to turn it up to 25psi to see if it did 500+ . . . You betcha! But discretion is the better part of valour (and engine rebuilds) - more time was spent on the lower parts of the table and the car was so tractable and much easier to drive on the way home too.

Awesome result and makes it all worthwhile. Shows you've put bits together that work well together. I hope you are using re-enforced head dowels...... :ROFLMAO:

Today I need to find where my screen wash plumbing is chucking water out. Ran out a couple of weeks ago so topped it up with 5 litres, which has lasted 2 weeks. Without any scientific equations i can safely say I have a leak! Fingers crossed its a problem above cylinder head height, the pump is whirring away happily, just need to find the leak!

Stuart

Well I can't find any obvious leaks. Certainly nothing visible in the engine bay and doesn't look to be anything spilling obviously on the ground after chucking a litre of water in and using it all up. Expensive time of year to be losing washer fluid, got a 5L Prestone from Morrisons for £6, not too bad, so will put that in and see how it lasts. Maybe a crack in the pump but the flow to the windscreen is very good. Dunno.

Checked my digital banking there, 13th November I put 5L in, could I have used that in this weather in my daily driver? Maybe..................but seems a bit excessive. Keep an eye.

Were most of the gains from altering the ignition mapping. Or was autotuning fueling rich or weak too?

Autotune fuelling hadn’t done a terrible job but it was a bit spiky in places. He smoothed all that out and then spent a fair bit of time on all the low and mid-range tuning which from the second I pulled away at the end of the day made a huge difference to the drive ability and manners of the car.

We had an issue that took some discovering whereby the ECU was incorrectly recognising Knock (even at idle) and was pulling 4 degrees of timing across the board so once we resolved that and recalibrated the boost then we made great strides - up from 392 at low boost when I got there to what we left with.

Great results, well done!

Do you have a dyno sheet? I'd be interested to see where you get peak torque and peak hp.

I seem to remember mine being particularly thirsty for windscreen wash, also the reservoir can crack at the mounting points, particularly the lowest one.

No leaks around the headlight washer pump?

Nothing that I can see although I haven't been under it yet. It seems thirstier than before though. Need to get it up on a ramp.

Is the headlight washer not the same pump? I thought it was a 2 way pump although in 14 years of ownership, and an engine rebuild, I don't think I've ever saw the washer pump! Is it not a pain in the arse to get to? Seem to remember Blade changed his pump and it was tricky.

Peak Torque is 5300rpm

Peak HP is 5750rpm

I need to work on getting earlier spool up through the boost table mapping next, well I say next but first comes . . .
