what did you do to your 944 today

ORIGINAL: simdel1 Yup, help is on its way, but i can play in the dark during the week in the mean time!. The pedal springs all the way to the bottom and doesn't return, so I guess it's not refilling. I haven't even got a drop out of the slave...but I didn't take the nipple all the way out. I might try that. I did notice a slight weep of fluid from the front of the slave though which seems a bit suspect to me.
it sounds like you let the pedal travel all the way to the floor before closing the bleed nipple. When this happens the master cylinder piston can stay down and not return so no amount of pumping will do anything as the cylinder is not recharging with fluid. if you leave it overnight the return spring should gradually return the piston so that you can bleed the slave. The trick with bleeding brakes and clutch mast cylinders is to close the nipple BEFORE the pedal and piston reache the bottom of their travel so that the piston returns for the next stoke.
 
You need to bleed the flexi first, there will be air in there if you have disturbed anything. The flexi is at the highest point, I don't know why Porsche never fitted a bleed nipple between the flexi and the hard pipe that runs to the slave. You can never get all of the air out from there. Went out and exploited the unexpectedly mild, dry-ish and salt-free weather by driving mine for only the third time since it came back from the body shop a couple of days before Christmas. Gave the old dear a good wash, a decent time having now elapsed since the Paint Shield went on. They are quite keen that you should not let any form of detergent near the car for a good week or so after it is applied, otherwise the edges can lift, apparently. Anyway, it's nice to see all that new Alpine White gleaming. As you may recall I have had to learn how to open the boot from inside due to the temporary absence of the motor. Having now mastered this trick I have been able to put the battery conditioner on, upon putting the car back away. Fortunately despite it being fairly nippy in the garage, and the car having stood since Boxing Day, it started without hesitation. The car clearly loves long motorway / dual carriageway runs. Despite having been given some good squirts over the life of the tankful of V-Power it's gone through since I got it back, and having brought it home to Yorkshire from Stevenage at what I might call normal BMW combat speed, rather than a sedate trundle, it's doing just better than 30 mpg. Not bad for a 290 to 300-ish hp 21 year old car.

Cant you `crack` the hose where it goes into the m/c or hard pipe and bleed it that way?
 
Cleaned it up and finished off faux carbon dash trim that coveres up 20 plus years of wear and tear!.

Today, I collected a pair of new rear hatch gas struts for the 944 from my local OPC. Replaced the plastic clip on the boot opener motor and fitted them and I now have a hatch that lifts up itself when the button is pressed! [:D] Only slight drawback is that I caught the heated rear window glass tab on the drivers side and it broke off.....[:mad:] (To be fair, it had been badly soldered back before and was weak!) Need to sort out how to repair it.....:rolleyes:

ooooh, very nice!! can i be cheeky and ask how much you paid and where from? is it a swop for the standard trim or is it the kind that has a sticky back to stick over the existing? cheers, Al.
 
Did the 320 mile round trip to Oswestry in Shropshire today, after dropping my lad off at school in Oundle. made good time so whn I got to Shrewsbury turned off the A5 to re-visit my old stomping ground and popped up to RAF Shawbury where the gate guardian is the last Wessex I flew in 1989 I have done 800 miles this week and the old girl passed 224,000 miles this morning! (I promise I will clean her this weekend!)
 
ORIGINAL: Fat Albert Did the 320 mile round trip to Oswestry in Shropshire today, after dropping my lad off at school in Oundle. made good time so whn I got to Shrewsbury turned off the A5 to re-visit my old stomping ground and popped up to RAF Shawbury where the gate guardian is the last Wessex I flew in 1989 I have done 800 miles this week and the old girl passed 224,000 miles this morning! (I promise I will clean her this weekend!)
I hope you kept the Wessex in better order than you do your 44 ![:D] We will definitely need to see pics of the Wessex [;)] Thats an impressive mileage and says a lot for the driver comfort of the 944 .[:D]
 
This morning I replaced the gear lever which had got somewhat loose and went for a drive to notice that the Varex silencer I installed last Sunday works as it should - as quiet as the standard exhaust with the flapper closed and apparently flowing as much as the replaced Magnaflow silencer when opened. Driving in town was the real test as people don't stare at me anymore when I pass by, it looks like they don't even notice the car anymore - one of the best investment I did for this car [:)]
 
Stealthy is the way forward. Today I took the passenger side door card off to investigate the central locking fault, found the plastic arm from the actuator broken. Decided to use this as a chance to clean the drains on the inside of the door and found some broken glass that had been there for some time by the looks of it. Thats one rattle less and a fixed lock system, bonus. Carefully parked the car over the oil patch that the leaking balance shaft housing/turbo feed is causing. If I can't see it then it doesn't exit (until it gets a bit warmer for spannering outside).
 
Today, I soldered the heated rear window tab back to the element after knocking it off whilst fitting my hatch struts...:rolleyes: Not an easy task as solder doesn't want to travel upwards and access is tight. Anyhow, I hope it will work-should be able to test it tomorrow morning....[;)]
 
Filled her up with fuel for the first time since the clutch master cylinder broke and went for a drive through the (foggy) fens! Yes, it needs a good clean. In my defence it has been off the road for two months.

Look how happy he is! I was quite happy too [:)] I want to make a big public "Thank you" to Andy (Hairyarse) and Mike (A9XXC) who were exceptionally kind and came over today to help me get PCZ back on the road. I mainly supervised, but I'm ecstatic to have the car running again! If either of you need any help (i'm afraid it would be mainly spanner holding) I'd be more than happy to help out. About a year ago I went to the rutland meet, and it was talking to people there that made my mind up about getting a 944. I'm still amazed at how friendly this club (and forum) is. I definitely made the right decision. See you all at the Rutland meet![:D]
 
Mike needs to take the credit, I was joining you in the spanner passing more than anything else! Thank Danni again for the cottage pie, Rob's share was good too [:D]
