[attachment=image1.JPG] Yesterday at a friends garage we fitted a new water pump with a metal impellor got rid of the plastic one just in case it disintegrated or slipped on the shaft, changed the thermostat and housing with a cooler running one 75 degrees , replaced coolant with a 50/50 mix and added some water wetter.

We also changed the brake fluid with AP660 racing fluid and fitted a GT3 front lip spoiler looks like the one on Stuarts GT3 in the above picture, and finally fitted a new oil filler tube with cap.

I also found the air oil separator was leaking at the seal and the two rear shocks are leaking as well so I'm replacing the air oil separator and some BC Racing coil overs (I have researched them and they have some good reviews)

I need to find one of these hardtop from GTN-Automotive & if it will fit my 996!

Where did you get your mats Pieman? Is the pile good quality? It's on my shopping list of things to get.

@jagdhamster be interested to know more about the dampers and if this improves M030 setup

Hi Wibble,

They are much, much better than the M030 set-up, but then they were a fair bit more to buy (even second-hand)!

They're 3-way adjustable (High-speed bump, Low-speed bump and Rebound) with progressive springs and upgraded drop-links all hand-made using top-grade materials and very little rubber bushing anywhere. As a consequence they are a little bit clunky at slow speed, but they are stunningly good at damping/body control once the speed rises. Just taken the car out with a car journalist (cmoose on PH). He test-drove my car on M030s and his impressions were here:

The weather wasn't ideal and there was a lot of traffic today, but he liked them a lot, as do I.

We're going to do a "group test" in the near future with my car on the exe-tcs, cmoose's Cayman S (on maybe Pss9s) and another chap's 997.1 GT3 to see how they compare.

Overall though, I would say they're firm but still compliant and increasingly so with speed, with absolute car control. They are a little noisy, though (only a bit and I'm growing used to/liking it now).

Cheers,

Just wondering if I can persuade the wife that this is a sensible investment?

Had a great productive day on Saturday, fitted the NYPPD (from New York USA) semi solid engine mounts, replaced all the calliper bleed nipples with new Brembo ones (there is eight on these cars), and Mark whose garage it is I work in, with my help fitted the alloy pedals.

We were going to fit a new air oil separator but decided the engine is best coming out to do this the easy way, whilst it is out we will fit a new Sachs performance clutch kit, Stainless steel manifolds with S/S bolts, rocker cover gaskets and a few other gaskets and maybe change the IMS bearing and seal if needed but I'm sure this upgrade has been done, oh and change the oil and plugs.

Almost forgot the Techy gadget bit, we fitted a tyre pressure, temp and battery gauge or TPMS system that works brilliantly, not stuck the Velcro in place yet I'm not sure what side of the shelf to have it on, the round things on the valves are the sender units they are secured in place with a locking nut so they are secure, I don't leave the car anywhere doggy so hopefully they won't get nicked, as you can see on the gauge the side that is in the sun is hotter and yes I have to pump the front tyres up.

WE also got the car play on the double din Pioneer head unit working now (I plugged in the USB the wrong way round) this mirrors the apps on my iPhone on the Pioneer screen in the car so I can use all the apps like sat nav on the big screen.

I have plans to fit a oil temperature gauge to the to of the steering Colum shroud, I bought this holder from the good old USA that fits over the top of the original one, again its not fitted in place properly yet.

I'm also going to get more of the interior parts up the centre consol, door bits and around the ceter vent dipped in the metal riveted plates to finish the interior off.

I'm still waiting for my coil overs to be delivered to fit them then more track days.

This is interesting - what tpms have you installed? does the one system cover the tyre pressures, battery and temp gauge? What temp is it displaying?

It show pressure on all wheels, temp of the tyres in 0c or f. and battery voltage, it took half an hour to install and as it shows in the picture its a Careud, took us longer to download the instructions of the web and program it but it works perfectly we tested the temp and psi and its spot on and the voltage is correct also.
