Wheels

Your better off posting this on the Boxster Forum, as i'm not sure!
Have you checked the right hand engine mount? This goes on all 944's at the age they are now.
Good luck happy motoring[:)]

Not saying you're wrong Andriko, but I'm on 944's #4 and 5 and I've never yet replaced an engine mount. Guess what'll fail next on my cab now then....[8|]

Mine broke early at 66k. Well it was 15 years old and had power steering fliud leeking on it for over a year which made it worse.

Yes I agree, they look good - but fancy something different without being too flashy and not to try and 'modernise' the car.
I'll post a pic of the ones I have an eye on when I find a decent picture. They are similar to the Cups 1 but have a groove in the spoke, I have seen them mostly on 993's but in split rim form.

I was wondering, what else would look good on a 944 other than Cups and not being too Chavvy or many £££'s

16" Boxster wheels, or 17" Boxster S wheels look good (better than on the Boxster I think), and are REALLY cheap because everyone replaces them with something else!

Here You go

Wizard,
I was originally after some cup 3 alloys to replace the original teledials on mine but came across some 17" Boxter wheels at a good price so went for them instead. They are the 5 'swept' spoke style (sort of similar to the cup 3's) and I think once on the car they look just as good. I've attached a photo but unfortunately it's not a great one that show off the wheels.

I've not seen many other 944's with them fitted and they tend to be cheaper than the cups since they are not as popular.

However I don't think they do them in 18" if that's the size you're after.

Wizard,

Those look like "993 Cup 2" wheels. I had a set (non-split rim) off a 993 on my 944S. They looked great!

The fronts (7") are a little narrow compared to the back (9") for a 944 though. Could have done with 1/2" more width on the front.

I'd go along with that

I can't remember what the difference (if any) is between 993 Cup 2's and Boxster wheels though I have a feeling the the 993 wheels are 9" rears compared with 8.5 on the Boxster.

I agree that the fronts are a bit under tyred at 7" with 205's, and it takes a bit of doing to dial out the resultant under steer. I have wondered if you could put 215's on the front - it looks to be within tollerance on various manufacturers charts but am surprised that Porsche chose to use 205's.

Another point - I don't know if 993 fronts are the same as Boxster fronts. Mine have a 55 offset. The reason I ask is that JZ Mactech (in their technical section in 911&PW) sugest that you should use 7mm spacers at the front if fitting Boxster wheels. 7mm seems a significant loss of thread length to me and not something I would like to consider.

I had spacers (about 25mm I think!) on one set (I think the back?) because of the offset. This was on the 944S without ABS.
The chap I bought them from had the spacers on the front of his car (a Turbo) because of the ABS type hubs.

Complicated ain't it!

(Those are different to the 993 cups I had by the way John - the ones I had were (5) straight spokes with a groove down the length of the spoke).

Apoligies for my original answer. 16" Boxster wheels look the mutts. I happen to have a set in the garage that I haven't got around to eBaying yet.

My original teledials were 205/55/16 on the front and 245/45/16 on the rear. The Boxter wheels std tyre size is 205/50/17 on the front and 255/40/17 on rear and rolling diameters are near as damn it the same as the original wheels so I stuck with the standard size.

The Cup 3's are available in 17" and 18". I'm prettty sure that the 17" versions are the same width as the Boxter wheels since the std tyre sizes are the same. I had a work collegue who had these and put 225's on the front with no adverse affects.

I think the 18" wheels only look good if you increase the disc brake size to fill the wheel. I hate to see big alloys with nothing but fresh air and daylight behind them.

But i'm chuffed to bits with the Boxter alloys.

Just a reminder that there are a couple of links in the General Forum FAQ that explain about wheel offsets etc...

Because it is complicated[;)]

Or something a little different - I don't know what size these come in as the web site I saw them on seems to have gone a bit gibberish.

This might give you an idea (although the pic doesn't look quite right - may be because there's no disks behind the pic of the wheel)

Here's a real picture of them - not my car I hasten to add, it belonged to a guy called Steve Bright at the time and it won best visiting car at the Devon & Cornwall concourse 2001. Personally I have to say I don't like them.
