Wheels

Without a doubt the best 16" wheels for the 944 are the Forged Clubsposts.

Oh look I'm selling a set here [:D]

I saw those Paul, very very tempted... but hard to justify for my 944 that I'm probably not planning on keeping.

Hi People

I have a set of 17" cup 1s on my 944S at present and like them but what about a set of these 18"

Just my opinion, but the 16" Cup from the 968 (and 964 from MY92 unless it had the optional 17's) look utterly, utterly pants on everything.

Nice wheels, and nice car, but somehow they just don't go together in my eyes ...
(Mind you, I am a fuddy-duddy D90 enthusiast, as I admitted to yesterday on the Titanic list, so you may wish to ignore me. Oh, you just did.)

Oli.

17" cup 1 & cup 2 's look great - but will firm up the ride a bit

Most 944's ride a bit high - getting the car sitting level is a good start, & a drop of 30mm or so makes the 16's look much better,

As Fen says - 16" cup 1's are hideous [:'(]

Not sure if thanks is in order or not as I have been trying to convince myself about the cup 1's and nearly managed to do it until the replies here!! Now I will have to start all over again.

I like them. I really like them. I really do like them....

Its not working..

I like Des90's and they look "period".

Those 18" "GT3" alloys (which of course have another name....just can't remember it at the moment) look superb on the car. Mechanic at the local OPC had some on his S2.

But..... 17" Cup1's would always be my choice. Gorgeous.

16" Cup1's will be illegal as of 2008 ~ crimes against good taste.

Isnt it suprising how different a cars appearance can be with a set of wheels.[8|]I personally think the 18"s make the car more modern and a sportier look whereas the originals make it a normal run of the mill car.I would use the old ones for winter.

Can the wheels make much of a difference on the handling of a 944????

I changed to 996 Carrera 4 17" wheels (as I had them spare - offsets are 55 front and back and 7's and 9's) on a car I recently bought (never drove it with the original wheels on) and the handling is diabolical - the car hunts out the road and tries desparately to change lanes all by itself.

I'm going to swap the wheels back to the 16" Cups (as soon as my fractured foot sorts itself out) but just wondered what others had experienced?

The car had been 4 wheel aligned only recently and had the steering UJ replaced.

Jason I've had numerous different sized wheels and brands of tyres on my cars over the years and sometimes the oddest things make a huge difference.

When I first went to 17" wheels the tramlining ans wandering was simply awful. I did all the recommended changes, caster mounts, realignment but it made no difference. The tyres were not down to the wear limit (Bridgetsome S01s at 3mm I think) and when I replaced them with new Contis the car was suddenly transformed.

I've just fitted a S/H set of 17"s to my S2 and it has reasonably newish Pirelli P0 Assymetricos fitted which are truly awful for tramlining and wandering. When I get a chance I will swap the fronts with my Turbo fronts that have brand new Kumhos which are wonderful, I am pretty hopeful that the wandering will disappear and then the P Zeros will be off to the tip

AH HA!

I've got fairly deep tread Pirelli PZero Assims on these wheelsalso! I wonder if that could be it??!!!

I didn't expect the 17s or the offsets to really be an issue so suppose it could be the tyres on this car....which is not good as I've got 2 sets of them and the only other 17's I have are the Dunlop SSR's on my RS mags (which are about to come off...as I'm putting bright orange cup 1's on...also with SSR's)

Will you let me know how you get on Paul when you change the fronts (PM me)...are you going to leave the Pirellis on the back?

Anyone got any spare 17" front tyres????????

Anyone seen the Veloce XS wheels on a 944? I don't mean the five spoke ones that Promax sell but the multi-spoke ones- there is an advert for them in this months PP. I've also seen them called Krone alloys and i've often seen them on 993 race cars. I love the look of the wheels but am not so sure they will look good on a 944. I'm also wondering if the granite black ones would look good on a guards red car. Here's a link to the website:-

Just spotted that the Veloce ones are available in 19". I would have to upgrade my brakes again to fill the void behind the wheel - I can't abide to see alot of space behind a wheel - it should be filled with brake disc and caliper in my view.
