Alright then how about these?

What do you all think these might look like on a 944?

If those are Boxster alloys, then utterly terrible. I saw a piccie of a 944 with them on once, and it really wasn't nice at all.

Avoid. Like the plague.

They even look worse than these [:D]

Tony knows I don't like his wheels, but I hate them less now than when I first saw them. Perhaps they are an aquired taste.

Actually, I think those look OK ...

Tony's wheels are the same as I've just put on the red one - look ok.

Tony - how did you make them fit at the front though?

rubbish photo...

Tony doesn't know (yet), but I don't like his wheels either. To make it all equal I don't really like your wheels either, John (hence taking them off my 964 when it came with a set). I only really like Cup 1's in 17", though I don't mind Cup 2's. The angled spokes always looked crap to me.

I'm not their greatest fan myself and will probably religate them to track day use when I can find something else.

Agreed. I have 3 sets of cup 1's but they all go on the RS....and are in varying materials and colours!

I dont like them much either but they were cheap and for track days. I fitted 3 or 5mm front shims to make them fit, cant remember which but it was discussed here, so a search should reveal it,

Both those sizes will fit inside the arches (just) if the rear lips have been rolled at the factory. The standard wheels for an 89 Turbo should be 7.5 x 16 ET65 front and 9 x 16 ET52 rear so if you put the new sizes into the following calculator you will see where the position of the new wheels will be:

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

The ride will be harder because you will be fitting tyres that have 2" less sidewall than standard 16" wheels and you may experience more of the tramline effect unless you change your caster mounts to the 968 version (£80 for both sides) and have a full 4 wheel geometry alignment

Mine's on 18s and has been lowered and fitted with harder Bilstein suspension with goemetry set up for track bias.

Wheel arches appear to have been rolled - whether factory or last owner, I'm not sure - but I've not had any clearance issues thus far.

If I hadn't bought it with the 18s already fitted, then I would have probably gone for the 17" Cups, but I love how it looks on these wheels and it drives great too!!

PS Mine's a '91

I've got those wheel sizes on my '89 Turbo. With M030 suspension, the ride is certainly firm, but not uncomfortably so. My personal opinion is that single piece 18" wheels look too big, luckily my car had 3-piece 18" Speedlines on when I bought it, which really do look fantastic. The car dooes tramline quite commonly, even with 968 castor mounts and a recent geometry alignment, but again, it's not so much that I'd want to change it (I don't think....err...). Certainly though, I'll be looking at getting some 17" rims for track use, just to save on tyre costs alone!

I've got 18" Speedlines (replicas) on my 944 (non turbo) and the wheels are et52, 8" front 9.5" rear and they just fit with my lowered suspension. If the suspension is standard then I don't think clearance will be an issue, its very close for me.
I've not had the car long and as its my first 944 I've got nothing to compare the ride to on that front. I find the ride firm, but not uncomfortable, but thats prob as much the suspension as the wheels.
I did notice the car tramline a bit the other but nothing serious. I'll be getting rid of these wheels shortly anyway ... 18" tyres are too expensive if I'm going to use the car as much as I want [;)]

I've seen 18" Carrera 5-thin spoke wheels on a 944 and 18" 996 turbo 5-spoke turbo twists on a 944 and both wheels look stunning also.

I've wondered what the 18" 5-spoke 997C2S wheels would look like on a 944, though I believe these are quite heavy, and i'd like to see a set of GT3mk2 wheels on a 944 also.

Those offsets are about right for the '89. From what I understand you should also have factory pre-rolled guards. The 18's do tramline for sure, especially if you have your car setup for the track. The more neg you have, the more they'll tramline. I've heard of guys fitting 11's on the rear and 295's but I think they may have 'eased' the guards out a little to accomodate them. I run 9's et52 and 10's et60 but it is really low and lots of neg so I do occasionally get a little rub.
I want to go up to 11's and 12's but that will be with some bodywork involved.
Oh, and by going up to 18's you will have many more choices of R-spec rubber if you want to track it.
