Where is the Early 911 Register Secretary?

I must get that picture posted of you and me at Silverstone trackday . . . . it's a classic, and clearly demonstrates the close links I've developed with DDK . . . much like the one of you and me in Le Mans bar (edit: thats a bar in Le Mans, not a 'male friendly' bar).

Genuine question ... why does anybody here who haves / loves early cars have an interest in supporting PCGB ? Don't 'we' get more else where ?

I'm intersted to know what we think we could gain from PCGB , and if there is something we could all benefit from how 'we' could make it happen?

Doesn't it always seem we are just banging our heads against the wall?

Well the RS could always point people in the direction of DDK for help.....I bet most of the founding DDK members were PCGB members at one stage and I bet a lot of its other ones came about because of the sites promotion here?

DDK is a great site....as are lots of others...but PCGB moaning (not directed at you personally James) doesn't help....it is what it is and probably now always will be....just embrace it as the largest single entity of pork members there is this side of the pond and use it for our advantage.....recruitment?

Many good points made above, and I do agree with the benefits highlighted by Nick, as many were those that I also benefitted from. I also attended the PCGB Carole Nash run earlier this year. I very much enjoyed the visit over to Castle Hedingham, and especially the Track Day. I also enjoyed an excellent New Years Day PCGB drive out a few years back (with Helen's horn kept beeping on the 912 as it turned right).

Whilst not a substitute for 911&PW, there is of course Porsche Post magazine each month.

James - the £50 track day discount for a PCGB member pays the PCGB annual membership - the sole financial justification I made to myself to continue to be in PCGB. I also enjoy the access this gives to the centre at Silverstone, and this weekend I can get £5 off the Le MAns race at Silverstone through PCGB.

Personally, I like working on my car and driving it - I am very keen on all types of motorsport, so this is where my leanings are towards - more Early 911 Track Days please Helen - what about the Rally that Eon was looking in to ?

I really enjoy the Early 911 spirit, enthusiasm and help offered by DDK, but whilst DDK continues to grow, I do believe the 'buying power' of someone like PCGB cannot be overlooked either. One example - I enquired of Silverstone how much it is to hire the National circuit midweek for a track day - £10,500 - PCGB must have got it for less than that to put on our day !

So finally, YES lets get Helen in as R/S and continue the work that Phil T started. And also long live DDK, and may the two live in harmony.

thats more like it & what I was wanting to hear , genuine reasons for staying with pcgb [:D] As I have mentioned earlier I thought the trackday was superb & would love for us to have one each year.

If the annual classic trackday could be incoraprated with a 'classic porsche' gathering too we could have the basis of a nice little event [:D]

BTW, I've been trying to play devils advocate with previous posts & looking at it from a 'new members' point of view ... as in WHY should a new memeber sign up & what would they gain ?

I'd love to see an RS that would be cool about working together - just like you did. I can send an email to 2,000 classic Porsche fans promoting the likes and Hedingham etc. and often do, but a bit of official support and cooperation or thanks would be great. We love the cars - end of story!

Cool about that Tom, anytime you need 5 or so 912's for an event just let me know! [;)][:D]

Yes I have been abit miffed by that, the 912 section as Gavin and I know was one of the most popular parts of the club forum and now it's dead ( we all know why ) As a number of 911 owners cut there teeth on 912's.. don't forget about us.

There has been a large number of new comers with 912 of late and it would be good to get them more active..

I just wounder if we could take on board what some of the US clubs do they have smaller gatherings local to help out an owner.

The track day was the best and I am sure can only grow in numbers.. It's funny you don't see any complaints about track days I just wounder if it;s the fact that Steve just don't see the need for any change from what is a sucessful format. It an't broke dont fix it..

As you know I have banged on about the classic side with some of the board my self and you just get nowhere. If memebers or wavering members want to get some thing sorted eg as some sort of last ditch attempt before they make their minds to go, lets work togeather and present some thing the board can see what should be done..

I mean why not have a drive your 356 day and get lots of people to post the pictures 912 914 and 911 day. Get people wanting to do something..

just my point of view, oh and restoration as Tom has said it's one of the popular area's over on DDK I tried to get some thing sorted with the 356 side but already the RS put a stop to that with who can view it..

it's time to stand up or shut up ... I'm in..

B+ugger . . . funny you should mention a 'drive your 911 day', as there is one . . . and it was yesterday.

It celebrates the offical launch of the 911 at the Frankfurt Motor show on 12 September 1963.

When you say, '.........who can view it......' what do you mean. Did someone object to pics of members cars being available for general viewing? If so that's barmy.

no i think he means that unlike the other registers the 356 section is a members only section [:-]

yep a real show peice to the rest of the world...the 356 UK reg leading the way.........

" It's Shut " [8|] unless you are one of the lucky ones, where the RS didn't manage to block you from seeing it. [:D]

And the board did as they were told... that's why there is no posts..

But what it did do is high light 100% the type of old school, childish attitude I have been banging on about for 7 years!! hence we don't have any new 356 owners under the age of 45!!

That was well publicised wasn't it? [8|] That's exactly why we need an RS and the Club needs to get more proactive.

Agreed . . . .

'Drive your 911 day' was never really an event as such . . . . something Robin came up with I think . . . a nod to the past. Me and Berny met up for a pint once (probably 3 years ago now - time flys when you're having fun).

I think that's a little unfair on the rest of us RS's. I for one would fight to keep my Register area open.

Don't tar us all with the same brush.[:'(]

Mark, i'm sure thats not what Mark (912uk)was saying. i'm sure h was just trying to say that the 356 section should be open the same as the other sections [:-]
