Widow Maker!

From the latest official Porsche info pack:-
"The optional Chrono Package Plus combines a dash mounted analogue/digital timer with a range of useful functions. Lap or journey times can be viewed, stored and analysed using the performance display in PCM. The information available includes lap elapsed and distance travelled on the current lap, as well as the number of laps completed and their respective times. You can also view the current fastest lap and remaining range till empty. Driving times can be recorded for any stretch of road, and benchmark times can be defined. Other useful features include a personal memory function, controlled via PCM, which stores personal preferences for a range of systems, including lights, wipers, door locks and air conditioning."
So there you have it! [8|]

Clive

Congrats, Lancerlot, one awesome car, but I'd miss the sports chrono off the options list!
So what colour have we decided to order & is it buckets & scaffolding or comfort daily driver spec?

Nice one!
I'm sure you'll have a LOT of fun with that Lancerlot!
I do believe each one comes with a pair of Nomex brown corduroy trousers and some carbon fibre bicycle clips, for 'just in case'.
I'm sure you won't be needing them though![:D]
What a fabulous machine - enjoy!!

Off, as an invited guest, to the launch of the new 430 Scuderia in Exeter this evening! Sussing out the opposition![;)]

Hi Peter,
Gotta bitta hangover today [] but a good time was had by all!
Goody bag not quite so lavish as I was led to believe - a couple of small bottles of Carva and New World stuff (make good Chrisy presents for people you don't want to encourage too much!!) a small box of chocs. and pamphlets, but a very nice coffee-table style hardback on the Scud. that I will cherish.

We managed to persuade that nice man from Ferrari to fire it up a couple times in the showroom - cor blimey - deaf neighbours a definite advantage to owners!
Can't be run it at Castle Combe, Goodwood or anywhere noise sensitive as it stands - just too melodic and those are the 2 nearest venues to me! [] They're apparently working on an alternative system to quieten it down a bit. There's a guy at the Factory that apparently does nothing else but work on exhaust tuning!!! Velly interesting [:)]

There are only around 6 Scuds. in existence at present as production doesn't get under way until next month. Only 80 being made available in UK next year.
Regards,
Clive

Getting one has been a problem since only 43 units total production are destined for UK - so that became a challenge! However I do have a bit of a track record with Porsche so this has helped.

Clive

So looks like the GT2 will be the rarer beast....

Did you succumb to the lure of a place on the wait list?

Clive

Have just confirmed my spec with OPC East London from whom I have bought my cars in the past, very nice people incidentally.

Not that there is all that much choice tbh but in the end I did go for the Chrono thingy even if it doesn't do much, and of course I'll switch it off on PCGB track days.

Would have sent you a pm but your profile doesn't show an e mail address. Drop me a line if you would like to compare notes.

Nick

Hi Nick,
That's good to hear. Congrats. on securing one - I know they're like hen's teeth. [&:]
What colour are you going for? Sport or adaptive seats? Delivery date?
Give me all the gen! [8D]
Regards,
Clive
PS The GT2 configurator is up and running on the Porsche website now! [:)]

Sports-Chrono.

When I got to speccing my 997 RS I decided that once I'd paid for PCCB's, Sat-Nav, Orange, Bi-Xenons, leather etc I might as well add the sports-chrono. 4,000 miles and 7 months later I must admit I haven't even looked at the instruction booklet to find out how it works. The car is such fun to drive I haven't felt the need to use the sports chrono. The 997 GT2 will probably be the same. When you're spending that much money the extra for the sports-chrono is almost irrelevant. Looks good though IMHO.

Colour choice.

Surprised at the limited choice of colours for the GT2.

Hi Gary,
I think the advantage with yours is the extra engine boost, but that grunt is available all the time with GT2. So sports chrono package is really only a stopwatch and minor software package, as far as I can see. Perhaps that's why it's only 300 squids.[:D]

Clive

Hi All,
Latest news![;)]
Just returned from the OPC from specing WM. Here's the latest thinking:-
Carrera White
Black Basalt met. Wheels
Sports seats
Chrono Package Plus
Cruise Control???
Park Assist ??? (I'm elderly!)
Music player interface (Ipod etc. that's for my the kids!)
Auto dimming mirrors, rain sensor etc.
Red taillights
Thicker 3 spoke steering wheel

There are litterly 100's of available options, but adding features back into a car that's built to be functional is a bit counter-productive IMHO.
Build date July. [8D]

Regards,
Clive

Lucky Devil Clive !

What about the Navigation ? Only adds 1.5kg apparently, and it's always useful.
Does it come with the bi-xenons ? I'd have those.
Side-skirts ?
Rear centre console in exterior colour - just to brighten things up in there ? I would definitely pick that in future, it's £900 retro-fit ! Or any of the carbon trim ?
I also understand you need the sound package plus or you just get two crap speakers on the dash !
It's only money and you can't take it with you !

We're planning our Princess Yachts/Devon weekend for late September in anticipation you'll have taken delivery you know !

Clive, after reading through the spec and giving it some serious consideration, there only one thing I can say... Crap []

Its that naff I think its only right to offer to take it off your hands[;)] ... I know, I know always thinking of others...:ROFLMAO:

Hi All,
Thanks for your interest. It's a case of "keeping it real" as much as possible - if sound had been optional, I may well have had none at all. As for sat. nav. Porsche's version is cr*p IMO - a £200 Garmin's a much better bet. There's a huge temptation at the dealers to turn a true sports car into a GT and that's something I'm trying very hard to resist - the TT does that particular job extremely well!

Gary - I'm always open to offers!

As regards performance, I'm told Porsche GB now have a GT2 demonstrator and I'm looking forward to trying that out on the track next month. [8D]
Stand by for further news (if I survive)! []
Regards,
Clive
