Winter Projects anyone???

Still pending - but very much watch this space.

The more I research into something supposedly simple like a clutch replacement the more possibilities emerge. then, while the engine is out...

If I get some further info tonight (fingers crossed) I might actually make a decision tomorrow!
 
Just got my car back from Jaz after having the suspension fully rebuilt with bilstein sport dampers, new torsion bars, new bushes and 18mm rear wheel spacers. What a difference!

Turn-in is now a lot sharper and the grip at the rear seems to have increase 4 fold (same tyres.) The car now feels far more secure and stable on the road.

I would definately recommend it. I would say per pound, it has achieved the most dramatic improvement of anything I have had done to the car.

So glad things worked out. I really think it is hard to beat a shop with a good history of racing 70s and 80s 911 for suspension work. They just know how to make them handle well.

Here are a few pictures, taken this morning, trying to show of the cars new lower stane with wider track (due to spacers) at the rear.

I'll try to get some better ones when I have more time.

Looks better! You can run a 7mm spacer on the fronts with standard studs and nuts if you want to push the fronts out a tad as well. Actually, you could probably run 18mm spacers on the front as the 7 inch wheels that are so popular on the front are equivalent to a 24mm spacer in terms of track. You could play around with a rear one and see how it looks.

Is a 7mm spacer the widest that will fit the front on the standard studs? Are these shims that slide over the original studs or are they bolt on?

I currently have a set of 6 and 8in Fuchs on my '88 coupe at the moment, and have a spare set of 7 and 9in Fuchs... BUT, am I the only one who actually prefers the look of the 6in Fuch in the front ?!

Plus my car is pretty low and I don't really want to get into rolling the arches to try and squeeze the 7in Fuchs in the front (I only have 0.5degrees of neg camber in the front). This spacer idea seems like the perfect compromise.

Yes, the 7mm spacer is a shim that fits over the std studs and it is the largest that is recommended for use with the std studs. Personally, I would prefer a 5mm spacer to give just an extra couple of turns on the wheel nut but I am told a 7mm is fine and on that basis, I used them front and rear with 6/8x16 Fuchs as my road and occasional wet track day wheels/tyres for a couple of years. A 5 or 6 mm spacer does not seem to exist in the Porsche world so 7mm is all you can get (without turning down a 7mm anyway). I actually changed to steel lug nuts for a little extra safety when I experimented with 15 inch Compomotive 3 piece wheels that were a little thicker and needed spacers for caliper clearance.

Yes, you are probably the only person who prefers the look of a 6 over a 7. But a nicely lowered 3.2 on 6/8s is still a pretty sharp looking car and the 7s up front do have a tendancy to look like someone has stuffed as much wheel/tyre as possible under the front guards, so I kind of see what you mean.

I like the sound of having the front wheels a bit wider too - I'll talk to Steve again, see if he's got any 7mm spacers.

I did get my car from 911virgin, 2.5ys ago.

Steve also mentioned that my pre-silencer has a pin hole - are there alternatives to replacing with standard parts? More power or crisper noise? I have seen the other post on replacement exhausts but the heat exchangers on my car were replced just over a year ago so I don't really want to fork out for a complete system.
 
Standard pre muffler and a 1-in 1-out sport muffler perhaps. The standard pre-muff is best in that position and you can get a pretty stainless one which will sound a fraction crisper as stainless sounds slightly different to mild steel.
 
Hi all

After my previous attempts at spraying the front and rear bumpers myself and ending up with a very non matching red i gave up and have had the bumpers,front and rear valance and the 4 wheel arch panels sprayed professionaly. Picked them up on monday and just started to refit them. Funny how it seems much trickier bolting it all back together!!
Gave the wheels a bit of a polish up as well and various other jobs as well. Just can't wait to drive it.!![:D]
