Winter projects begin

Hi AC, nice to see another 964er restoring and enhancing a nice car back to life. Am sure RPM will do you good from what ive heard from Lee, who is building an RS looker too. The KWs setup will undoubtly be a great improvement, ask Steve B. Whose doing the bodywork? Keep the hardwork and updates coming, I love these build threads. Norm

Hey Norm, Daytona Coachworx are doing the job. I have seen Lee's car. He moved from a 996 GT2 right?! I actually asked the to get in an have a proper look at the right sill area as well even though there was no visible corrosion. Might as well given its there. Will have an update on that and a parts list Monday I am told. Cheers

As an update I have asked them to take the os sill trim off (RHS) to check for any corrosion thats lurking that hasnt surfaced yet. Originally it was just them fixing the LHS but given the car is in I would rather have it checked then get the car back and 6mths later I notice surface corrosion in that sill.....maybe overkill......but rather get this done properly once. Also - got the parts list. Will be finalised today and ordered through Porsche Hatfield.

So...19hrs in.... Update: 1. RHS sill was removed and underneath was fine. Worth checking for 2 hrs additional labour.

2. Left wing has needed to be replaced so one has been sourced from Pro-9 second hand. The inner part of the scuttle has been reviewed and treated and quote from Dave is "scuttle looks worse than it is in the first pic. It's not bad enough to justify removing the dash & welding a repair panel in. We have treated it accordingly & the other corrosion areas. The front bumper had a crack in it which Gordon has plastic welded back together for you"

Next Steps: - repair areas primed tomorrow - estimated time to complete - "next couple of weeks" [;)]

How exciting.. they really seem to be cracking on with it. Looking at your first pic what signs were there to say the whole wing needed replacing? You have a rough final cost so far? Called them up the other day and my problem is Daytona hinted a 2 month queue then up to a couple of months in the workshop - too close to Le Mans at that rate to be sure I get it back in time.

In that case, if I were you I would schedule your bodywork to get done in November and just enjoy the car up until then.

on the bright side...it does let you put some money aside each mth now to cover it as well [;)] I think Daytona got behind pre xmas with a few 928's that needed lots of work and complete glass outs..so quite time consuming. My job is reasonably small in comparison. I havent used these guys but have seen their name come up a few times through people having good experiences....why not give them a shout and compare as well. On Melv's recommendation I've had a chat with Specialised Paintwork in Reading and popping in there Sat early morning for a once over and estimate. Concerned that if left too long I'll be looking at more remedial work..

Most indeed.. trouble is I'm always suspicious why from the same place a high end perfrmance car carries some premium estimate higher than that for the same paint job say on a Honda? - it's the same paint and effort surely? Why should/would the quality and approach be any different to a discerning bodyshop... maybe I'm missing something.

Hey Norm - thanks. It shouldnt take long to finish now. Loving those rims on your ride...and the stance! where did u get the rims? are they 3 piece?

Thanks Andrew, no they aint, there APs finest one piece suprisingly. Shes is wearing BBS 3-piece split rims now, but may split to paint either gold or white centers before the good weather sets in. Still you can't beat Cup1s! Any progress on the car this weekend? can't wait to see it finished! Am sure we all love the final product!

Hi Mate - Yes I think the car went in for painting yesterday. The mirrors and wing had been completed. Photos are at work so will update Monday. 3 piece BBS are a nice rim but agree the cup rims do look nice on our cars.

So the car has been painted and should be ready for pick up Sat 12th March. 928 ahead of me still needs to be put back together.... some more pics

Looks like a nice job, very thorough and worthwhile, glad that people like you are prepared to spend a few quid to keep these cars on the road.

Hi Mark - cheers! - i dont plan to go crazy but want to refresh a few things in priority order (rust and corrosion being P1). I am going for KWV3 and brake upgrade straight after and that will do for a good while. I think I am going to stick with this car for sometime....i really like it even if it isnt the fastest or most modern.....as a weekend car its great [:)]
