WUF for sale?

This one: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2526004.htm ?

Looks very nice and must be a barrel-full of laughs.

Sounds a bit like the 911 SC we did for Ben Lovejoy of Nurburgring fame... 993 Varioram engine, light 911 SC, standard 911SC transmission (not my choice).. Very very rabid, all the way up to the rev limiter in top gear at about 140... Also used to lift the front wheels in first if you plant the throttle.. quite scarey.. a real animal.

Looks very nice, and very good value. Compare it with the cost of buying an SC and adding the bits and it looks a bargain.

That's why I wanted to chat to you. Thought you might know a thing or two:)

I thought raw, black, deep fuchs... Mmmmm

I am having a lot of fun in wuf though. Just popped out for a short 4 and a half hour drive in the sun :D very nice.

I think that 911 SC might be even more lethal than a GT2 with that trailing arm rear suspension. These pre 993 911's were the cars that earned the 911 its grousome reputation for propelling the cars into trees backwards.

Sorry Ben i meant to type 911 GT3 (mk 1) The car you are thinking about sounds bonkers.................can the chassis handle the power ?

Same power as a 930, basically similar chassis, but with better weight distribution, better throttle response, and lighter... I am sure it will be a great car with a good geo setup, approached in the classic old-school 911 way -- slow in, fast out.

Just as well my son isn't old enough and doesn't have the money or he'd have WUF off you like a shot. He was gutted when Rick sold WUF as he'd hoped to arrive at his School Prom (in two years time) in it.

Reunited !

I'm not sure the 930 could handle the power. I don't think you could consider any pre-993 as a good handling car. Double wishbone suspension was introduced on the 993 which tamed its manners and brought the 911's handling out of the realms of 'modified Beetle' and into the 20th century.

Just got back from seeing the 911 at the end of a three day tour in the 944. Drove over 12 hours on British roads in three days and covered 700 miles around the UK in WUF.

Having finally got 12 hours alone in the car and enough fast miles in the car to get a feel for what it can really do I am left with no doubt that this car could keep with the likes of 997 gt3's on the track. The mechanical grip is just unreal in this hot weather. The power also feels really up after a good run. It felt a tad 'dulled' after 8months sitting in a garage but new plugs, fresh oil, fresh fuel and a few hundred miles has seen the car come to life in a very serious way.

However it's this seriousness that has made me sure on my decision that the car has to go. I ended my tour by seeing that SC today and although my first impressions weren't 100% warm, the car wasn't in the same kind of condition as wuf and I've absolutely no doubt in my mind having been out in it and then driven home at speed that in a competition of lap times WUF would be out of its league. But sitting in the full harnesses with the perspex windows and full roll cage it felt tiny, light and purposeful. It had a hair trigger throttle, thought controlled steering closer to a bike than a car and was generally about as close to a Caterham as you can get with a Porsche badge.

It was a like a track focussed, ferocious little kit car with a roof and what felt like very well sorted Porsche mechanicals underneith. I absolutely LOVED it! And it's black my favourite colour. I had some awesome driving moments this weekend and WUF really is in my mind the ultimate 944 but it's time to put my obsession to bed and move on. My search for the perfect driving machine has moved.

So having not yet done a serious add for WUF the question mark can now be removed and you will see a Piston heads add appear in the next couple of days. Only I've absolutely no idea what to put as the price?! I've not done that much to it but I've still spent £5,500 with the respray and getting the electrics sorted after the respray add that to the cost of the spare turbo which could possibly be included in the sale. Even without the cost of purchasing the car the sale value seems pretty meaningless and what I've spent pales into insignificance compared with the time and money Rick has put into the car. I'm not desperate for the money but I'm not going to have two loony cars like this in one stable so all in all it's going to be an unusual sale.

I think the real question is, who is the right buyer for the car? I owe it to Rick and WUF to make sure the legend lives on. So if there's a veteran enthusiast out there with the knowledge to run such a beast and who will love and appreciate it for what it is without trying to strip it down for a profit or run it into the ground on a shoe string budget, please get in touch and I will try my best to make the price work for you.

I've had 5 enquiries. I don't know how much. I waited last time and got £13,250 for my 3.2. There's no question in my mind this is worth £15k but I don't want to wait a year and I didn't buy the car to make my money back on.

I bought it for love of the thing and I wrote off the money I spent on it. I want to see it go on, that's what's important.

With a heavily modified car, the risk that a new owner messes with it increases with the number of times it changes hands... It would be great if Rick bought it back.

PS : I'm sure Rick would be happy to put back some stickers here and there to protect the shiny new paint [:)]

You're a BAD man and should not put temptation in my way ..... However I was considering a design along the lines of the 997RS Gen2 chequeres ....
