Young man's first Porsche aka project 951

Son bought these Gaz camber plates for his project 951. Quality is good and color is according to our color theme [;)] Most likely we are going to install these on Friday

This cab has taken too much our time lately. Engine fire damages fixed now and body stripped mostly to have a new paint

Its a shame that the GAZ mounts dont have an graduations milled into them.
I suspect the factory fixing points would not be sufficiently accurate (due to bolt clearances) for them to give a true reading which Oli would require. 0.1 or 0.05 degrees can only be achieved with a full 4 wheel alignment or strings

Brilliant project to watch, but........................the turbo badge on the rear is in the incorrect position, the "t" on the "turbo" should be on line with the vertical black line on the rear light vertical and it also needs to be in the middle of the rear panel on the vertical axis. Sorry to be fussy but you have spent so much time effort and money you may as well have the badges correct as i am sure you will agree [:(]

So far we have not touched outside body. When car is a roller again, we are going to paint it, so badge will be taken off. Badge was put into wrong place either in Sweden or Switzerland years ago.

Spent Saturday with my three son's at Ahvenisto race track. Very warm, about 30C [8D] These 951 & 993 belongs to friends of mine. 951 is quite early one, built in June 1985

When my friend Pete smashed his brilliant '87 Flaming Red 951, he moved to 996 Carrera. He installed a 996 Turbo engine, Cup car suspension & brakes. Mild engine modifications gives around 600 hp. Car is more or less GT2 style, since it's only rear wheel drive...

This white 1989 951 belongs to a friend of mine. Tommy has owned car over ten years. Around 350 hp, Leda suspension etc. Tommy lives now in Finnish Lappland. Drove over 1000km's to the track with his kids. 951 was loaded with luggage, track tires (with camber Tommy uses, Toyo's can't handle 1000km on the road...), tools etc. Tommy's mother came to track with his Ford Focus. She was not able to put all luggage to her car... 944's are more or less minivans [;)]

Son took 951 out for a little wash up (Garge floor & 951 roller). Next its time for fuel & brake lines and some electrics to engine room.

This project has been slow during past year. Now we have activated it again. We are now working with brake system. We couldn't find oem style dark green PVC coated steel universal brake line. Local stores offered only copper or cunifer. We have several sets of original lines from wrecked 944's. Unfortunately they are not perfect and since we are going to use Boxster ABS system, we need to fabricate totally different lines. Luckily our friend Patrick in Germany promised to help us. He installed a Boxster ABS system to one of his transaxle cars, a 924 :) I saw from pictures that he had used just correct type of brake line. Patrick went to a local store and bought 10 meters of that correct material :) Now we are waiting his shipment to arrive to Finland. Most likely we are going to fabricate double sets. I managed to get all necessary ABS parts from a friend of mine. I will convert my non ABS 951 to Boxster system as well.

I suppose it will work much faster than old 951 system. After all original system was introduced in mid '80's. Also it is much easier to install Boxster system to originally non ABS car. Boxster (Bosch 5.3) system has all necessary things built inside the same covers, so it is a standalone system. Original one have a separate computer & relay. Some of the original ABS systems wiring goes inside engine wiring loom. Adding them afterwards might be difficult. Also non ABS cars does not have tray & pressing made to car's body. Bosch 5.3 pump is smaller and more compact what comes to it's shape. We plan to move battery to rear of the car (UK style) and install ABS pump to the space where battery usually is located. This new system moves 951 to modern world. You can read error codes with OBD tester [:D] You must use "correct" Boxster pump. Pump's from cars with PASM etc. won't work. Use this "basic" version 986.355.755.00. Necessary connector for self made wiring loom can be found your local wreck yard. Late '90's / early '00's connector for example from VW Passat, Golf or Opel/Vauxhall product line will do nicely.

Received 10 meters ATE brake pipe Patrick sent us from Germany. Now we can start to fabricate piping for project car's ABS system. I wonder why local ATE importer was not able to sell this stuff for us. Pipe color in the picture looks like black, but it is drak green in live, just like the original 944 piping is.

Son started to work with engine room. First washed it up and waxed it. After that started to put AC-lines, wiring loom etc. into their places. Soon he can check out where to put Bosch 5.3 ABS system pump.

Few summer projects. Unfortunately most of them not for Diamond Blue project [:(] At summer cottage youngest son Peter built a "little house" to cover water pump which pumps water from lake Päijänne to Sauna and our garden. Peter built a three piece one which can be put into parts quickly, so pump can be easily removed when winter comes. Here's Peter painting the roof section.

Does everyone in Finland drive an older model Porsche?! Very nice too. Also, I have sauna envy - one day, I intend to build a wood fired sauna for my house!

Great stuff so far - really looking forward to seeing your son's car finished. The carbon cam cover on the 968 looks lovely :) Is that a Volvo dash I spy??

Most of my friends have older Porsche models. Some of them have late models as well. I don't care about those late models. I prefer classic ones. Every house in Finland has it's own Sauna. We have one at home and another at summer cottage. Finnish population is around 5.4 million. There are around 4 million Saunas..... Many family have several, at home, at summer cottage, at work, at gym, etc. etc. It is a Volvo dash. Belongs to my wife's V70. 968 cam cover is a fake carbon. Just original item dipped. You can see procedure for example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgEjrtBprlo
