Young man's first Porsche aka project 951

Hope i can do the same thing with my own 951 someday. It's just amazing how my son has turned old parts to like new ones. It would have been quite easy (and a lot faster) just to buy new parts, but when you are on a tight budget, this is the only way to go.

Looks fantastic and having been to Finland many time I know what your roads are like in the Winter so even more amazing. I will be in Vaasa next week so lets hope the weather stays good.

Just looked weather forecast for Vaasa. Next week on western coast it will be partly cloudy, but there will be also some sun [:)]

Thanks Oli, that will make a change normally I am there in the Winter and as you well know it gets rather cold. How on earth do you manage with the tax the Finnish government put on cars I speak often to my friends out there and the cost of putting a car on the road is very high.

I get some comfort from the fact that the cars are still more expensive in Greece and Denmark..... Average family car cost here about double what it does in UK. Also our other taxation is very high (as it is on all the Nordic countries). It cost a bit when they try to offer a good free health care and free education (including the university) to all citizens. Our schools have made it quite good. Just check out the international PISA results. Well, i don't complain. No need to have any tasteless new, all my three cars are over 20 years old [;)] Luckily my wife have a new car.

Even though I sold my S2 some years ago I cannot resist this thread. When finished this will be the nicest 944 anywhere [:)]

By the way, what is taxation like in Finland on "older" cars? Back in the late nineties I recall Danish friends mentoning buying a used Lada 2106 for... 50,000 DKr!!

Do you fancy a trip to Dinslaken in Germany next year Oli. There will hopefully be a few of us there for the meeting! Alasdair

When importing older cars, taxation is lower. Depends the age of car. Older = cheaper. Alasdair when are you going to Dinslaken? Most likely we will be at some point on our annual Germany-Austria-Switzerland tour. btw i sent your parts today.

ORIGINAL: os951 Got a lot of parts from plating company. I suppose most of the project cars parts which need to be yellowpassived are now done. Here's some of the parts before plating. Have to take a picture of finished parts later, they turned out really nice

HI Olli Did you plate all these parts? is it OK to plate the spindles? I love the fact that your car is so clean great attention to detail[:)], I would like to plate or paint mine but I am struggling to find a suitable finish, if you do have the after photo's can you post them ..cheers

Yes the spindles were yellow passived. After that they were powder coated black where needed. This treatment would give a summer-use-only car ever lasting surface on spindles. I should have pictures available of yellow passived parts, i'll try to find them. Project have been on hold couple of months due to project owner studies. Also two of his younger brothers are in the middle of ice Hockey season, so this has been slowed us quite a lot. We have tried to focus a bit to his VW Golf mk IV engine project as well. The plan is to start work with 951 project on February again.

Love the attention to detail, stunning[:)] If ever I strike oil I will offer your son a job his work is amazing.
