Seems I can only do one pic per post, will post some more. If anybody could give me an approx value it would be great. Keith...

Vin Plate. Car is very dirty but seems sound I have loads of pics but it takes a while to get them on here, I pulled the carpets and had a good root in the engine bay. I took all the advise given and cant find any rot other than the bumper. What do you all think, is it worth a go???

You would be best loading all your pics onto something like www.photobucket.com and then people could see all of them. Really difficult to get any idea at all from whats been posted - you need lots and lots and from all angles. I'm guessing you only saw it stationary in the garage from the pics? Were you not able to get it outside and lifetd up and go through it all thoroughly?

Going back on wednesday to get the car outside. The 914 behind it could not be moved so that messed up my plans but I was pleasantly suprised by what I could see. I had the car jacked a good way up and have been right under the car but was too close for the camera. One good thing was a sticker on the oil filter with the date june 2003 so I would think it was run then, better than 1987. Keith...

Keith, I ve been following this thread with interest. What you have posted looks good, the underseal looks very clean, as others have suggested it would be good if you could get the car outside. A pre galvanize car this age you would expect to find rust somewhere , though you maybe lucky. Make sure you check all the areas nick suggested. I hope you get this car Keith.

Hope this link works. http://s853.photobucket.com/albums/ab97/myatt1972/73%20911/ Thanks Liam, so far so good, time will tell. Keith...

Sportomatic? God you've struck gold..........lol..........seriously a properly maintained 'sporto' is a joy to drive but one that has been sat for so long may have a seized torque converter and the bellows for the vacuum may have perished too. Both items are no longer available, an old time auto transmission repair shop would have been able to split the torque converter fix it and then weld it back together, now you'll just have to source well kept parts, its possible but you won't know until you strip it. Installing a manual box is a doable option but it can be a bargaining point as the sporto is less desirable than the manual model, (although sportos are rare now). If I were you I'd pay Nick Moss to go and look at the car, there are too many problem areas on these cars for the untrained eye to make the right decision. Good luck.

The car looks fabulously original and unspoiled, the only query I would have is on the seam between the floor and sill below the right rear torsion bar mount that looks like it may (I repeat, may) have had a local repair.. It will need new suspension bushes, tyres, brake and fuel lines, a brake caliper refurb and the engine to be recommissioned, but that may just be an oil change and filters and 2 batteries. I would say the body would pass an MOT without any work. What is the mileage? It looks a believable 50K miles Great bits: Sports seats, nice floors and carpets, what appears to be good paint. It looks like it has been well stored, probably by luck rather than judgment! I echo Bones's comments on the Sporto bit.

The 914 looks good also from distant photos - which engine has it - what's going to happen to it? Andrew W.

Thanks Nick, Its showing 20,900 miles on the clock and I'm begining to think its true. The only way I could test the sporto is by running it which I cant do so I have a dilemma. Could you give me an estimated value of the car if the sporto was inop? and if working? I will need to put a bid in for the car and dont want to pay over the odds which will be difficult with so many unknowns. Cheers Keith..

Hi Andrew, I didnt get chance to have a good look but seems good, its ths 2.0l 4cylinder model. I will have a better look this wednesday, its being sold to. Keith...

Keith you are really going to struggle to get someone to give you an idea of value with so many unknowns. Its not being difficult its just almost impossible for any of us to do i would say - its really tricky. The problem is you have to think of worse case scenarios at the moment to value it and that would have serious impact on value. Looks a nice original car but don't get so excited that it impairs judgement - it happens to us all and when its your first Porsche too its even worse. What if its not 20k miles but 120k? Is there service history and receipts throughout its life to prove its 20k? If not then take the cautious view as no-one will believe you if you ever sell it and can't prove it either - 20000 miles in 40 years? What if the gearbox is knackered - parts are VERY hard if not impossible to get for these and very very expensice. What if the engine needs a complete rebuild? What if there is serious rust underneath that cant be seen? I don't want to put you off but want you to be realistic. This may be a good buy at 20k say - as long as you have 20k to cover what 'may' need doing - because all done and mint at 40k would be a lot more than its actually worth for a sporto in my opinion - but it would be a nice sorted car. A lot of parts on these cars are expensive and labour is long as things like a sporto gearbox build need specialists. It could be a great car but my concerns are unless you have the car fully inspected and tested you just won't know what the 'total' cost of the car will end up being. Just playing devils advocate here and from experience - my last 2 cars have both cost me well over £30k EACH in restoration bills alone.

Thanks Jason, your input is very much appreciated, if I make an offer on this car I need to assume that anything I cant see or test needs attention. I have a week to think about things before making an offer and I have another viewing booked on wednesday so I can check all the other things Ive thought about since yesterday. Keith...
