1973 911e barn find

This is a great story and I hope there is a happy ending for you [:)]. If I were you I would listen to the advice given in this thread that the worst case could be a spend of £20K to £30K to get the car in great condition and subtract that from the going rate for these cars, to arrive at my offer figure.

The high prices for early 911's are fuelled by demand for S spec cars with matching numbers. As these become out of reach price wise, the demand will go to E and then T The Sporto is the big drawback here for money, but the rest looks to me a great unmollested car. If only money to be made is the motive here, then you need to be careful only I feel because of the gearbox. If you want a nice 911 then it looks great to me. You don't HAVE to build it as a 100% wizzo imaculate perfect car! A bloody good clean inside and out will make a world of a difference, and the structure etc looks great, ie look at the windscreen area, not a bubble in sight and this is the original paint I presume. A good specialist will get the rest going properly and I would heed Nick moss's advice carefully. If you are not a DIY enthusiast, then set aside some good money for the likes of Nick to fettle it back to a safe MoT'd car. Often I think an original car with real patina can be an charmer for you and the observers! My 2 peneth.

real sorry i ve missed this thread [ been in the Arctic Circle!] I AM ALMOST AS CYNICAL AS YOUNG JASON BUT RESPECT MR MOSS s experience ,,.....its all been said already ,theres a gamble in any purchase like this but Nicks comments on passing MOT [ and some ] couple of batteries and the obvious bits refreshed after so pong standing look pretty plausible from piccies.......................the sporto is not neccessarily a minus , a certain 911 r on sale at £600000, had sport o at Lemans ! With respect i think u need to be very clear why u want it ? More importantly how u will use it ....................that willthen focus your attention on where ur monies going ...............personally i think it looks magnificent ...........until u turn the engine u are never going to be sure ..............................

Thanks for the comments guys, I'm viewing again tomorrow. hopefully I will be able to get her out of the garage for a better look. Then its time to put my bid in or not as the case may be. More pics tomorrow, Keith...

Re the sporto part the plate can rust on the flywheel if left for a long time, I have one in at the moment that had that ploblem if that happens its an engine out job. New clutch parts are still avalable from porsche, about £900.00. If you nead any advise contact me! Berny.

Thanks Berny, great info, I may well take you up on your offer. Have uploaded a few more pics and some of the 914, also found another motor at the same place. http://s853.photobucket.com/albums/ab97/myatt1972/Porsche%20view%20No2/ Cheers, Keith...

From what I can see of the body, interior etc., it does appear to be in really good, original condition. I owned a '75 IB targa with 110k in the '80s, and the bodywork was nowhere near as good as this. If the mileage of 20,000 is correct, that reduces the chances of expensive engine and gearbox work being required. It will obviously require lots of re-commissioning work to be carried out, as detailed above, but what you will have at the end will be worth it. Definitely worth a punt, in my view.

Cheers Mark, I have taken the plunge and put my bid in, I actually put a bid in for both cars but the 914 is no longer for sale. So the only thing I can do now is wait and keep my fingers crossed. Keith...

Funny you should ask, I have had an eventful day. After a mix up at the solicitors end was sorted, the 914 was for sale again, so with a bit of haggling (when I say a bit I mean a lot) we managed to agree a price for both cars. I have written two cheques and dropped them at the solicitors, once they clear the cars are mine. Think I will celebrate with a bottle tonight (may be the last for a while) Keith...

FANTASTIC news. I'm chuffed for you - and tbh, looking at those pictures, they look *not too bad at all* and I'm understating here. I hope you can bring those to an early 911 or 914 meet soon- what a story and well done! Bert

Congrat's you must be elated right now but the story will gain even more interest for us now SO KEEP US UPDATED! [;)]

That's great news about the Porsches. Do you know what's happening with the Rolls Royce?
